    Clio 172 mpg

My ph1 has averaged 41.3mpg over the last 2 full tank fills, lots of mixed/rural driving ie, lots of stop/start driving. If I do a long stint of dual carriageway driving, at 70mph it drops to 35-36mpg. BTW, having the a/c makes no difference at all.

mystery creaks, driving me nuts, lol.

Well, I've started to think it's the front top mount/bearing, which I may just get replaced first to see what happens. Failing that I may move on to the lower arms. Thanks chap.

mystery creaks, driving me nuts, lol.

My ph1 172 has developed a few annoying & difficult to locate creaks. Creak one is when turning the front wheels when stationary, it seemed like the rubber top mounts against the bodywork, so I removed them & smeared lithium grease in between but it still does it (oh, except when I took it in...

    OE/Cup dampers for ph1 172

Thanks for that. Should I be using Cup springs (if there is such a thing) if using Cup shocks on a ph1 or will standard springs suffice ? Or, is there a good spring set out there ideally suited to Cup shocks without giving any harder ride than standard ? Likewise, if I stick to new standard OE...

    OE/Cup dampers for ph1 172

I need a replacement set of dampers for my ph1, I was quoted about £49+vat each front & £51+vat rear for standard dampers & the same price for rear Cup ones & £56+vat for Cup fronts from a local Renault dealer. I just wondered if I could find either genuine set cheaper online before buying ...

My new ph1 stealth Stainless Exhaust

I think the pics make it look less tucked under than it really is. He tucked the rear silencer up as much as possible & once the tailpipe pipe was ready to fit he kept cutting small lengths of the 'droop' until i was happy. I'm near Framlingham, the LongLife dealer is between Pettaugh & Stonham...

My new ph1 stealth Stainless Exhaust

The old PowerFlow system on the car when i bought started to fall to bits internally (perf. tube unwelding from box etc) so found there was a LongLife depot 15mins from me. The chap was superb, initially popped it in for inspection then took it in the next afternoon & he made the new system...

    alternative access to ph1 radio/clock bulbs ?

Thank you, I'll give it another go (once I've thawed out, lol)

    alternative access to ph1 radio/clock bulbs ?

I noticed the pillars moving as I attempted to wiggle the dash but there seemed like there was more stopping the dash coming off than the pillars tbh.

    alternative access to ph1 radio/clock bulbs ?

Ok, I've attempted (& failed) to remove the upper dash. 3 screws under the windscreen, 2 behind the doors, upper column cover off & 4 more screws off, can't seem to get the blasted thing off... Is there possible access if I remove the stereo/vents & get to them from behind ? Thanks.

Osram Night Breakers don't fit in my ph1 ??

Ah right, can you actually get the Osram Night Breakers in HB3's (dipped) ?

Osram Night Breakers don't fit in my ph1 ??

The standard bulbs have a black plastic end with the plug 90deg to the bulb itself but these are just metal ended with 2 prongs coming straight out the back ?? The part No. of the ones I've just purchased are 64210NBP (H7 12v 55w) Can anybody tell me why they are a different fitment plz ? Dan.

CLEAR THE SNOW OFF YOUR ROOF/BONNET PLEASE

With my washer jets constantly freezing on my van, regardless of the strength of washer fluid in there I've found keeping some snow on the roof/bonnet (& those in front of me) helps to clean my screen when it blow/slides onto it, surely a good safety measure :rasp:

    ph1 Air-con didn't work, now does but..

I had the system checked out today, turns out there was no gas left. Believe it or not a plastic clip located too close to one of the alloy a/c pipes near the left suspension turret has been rubbing & gone right through it ! Slightly miffed that should happen, & doesn't really explain why it...

    ph1 Air-con didn't work, now does but..

Well almost 2 weeks after this first happened, & the air con having been working fine for the last 9 days (100's of miles, a/c on most of the time) today it stopped again, it worked this morning but packed up this afternoon. Light comes on when button pressed but no 'click' & steamed up windows...

    ph1 Air-con didn't work, now does but..

Yep, I do know as I have it on (warm) through the winter too. I'm just unsure why the condensation seemed so bad for over an hour on Sunday & I've never had that happen before. I'll carry on & see how it goes OK over Xmas, ta.

    ph1 Air-con didn't work, now does but..

At 7am Sunday I set off on a 1hr 30min trip, within 15mins all the windows started steaming up, even with the fan speed on 3. The a/c was on since I'd set off. It took ages for the side rear windows to clear. I fiddled with the temp coming from the centre vents with the a/c on & off but it never...

Rear wiper now won't stop in the down position..

No, i'm not at all sure that isn't happening, lol. Good call, i'll check that out tomorrow, cheers.

Rear wiper now won't stop in the down position..

This happened at random the other day, rear wiper done a complete sweep but instead of finishing there it partially came up again & stopped half way up the screen, when i tried again, it either done the same but sometimes won't work at all. If i just leave the wiper 'on' it'll eventually work...

What have you done to your car today ???

Just finished fitting a new radiator to the 172, plus done oil & filter while it was apart. Also removed the anti rattle plates from the pads as, since replacing them they've been noisy.

Fitted new front discs/pads, now they squeak...

Nope, i can't find your explaination, lol.If it persists i may try removing them.

Fitted new front discs/pads, now they squeak...

Interesting re. ditching the shims/pad plates.. How come they've not squeaked up until, with them still in place, lol ?

Fitted new front discs/pads, now they squeak...

I didn't replace the plates the pads seat in but i did gently remove them, cleaned them up & the dust etc under them before refitting. Stewner, what shims did you remove ?
  29. D

Fitted new front discs/pads, now they squeak...

Yes, copper grease on the back of each pad.
