Have a read of the information on this site, then download rootkit revealer from the link at the bottom of the page...
IIRC rootkit revealer will only detect if there is a rootkit on your system, it won't remove it.
No the car doesn't turn over at all, nothing happens when I turn the key, other than the lights coming on...
I think the immobiliser is OK, now that I think about it over the last 2 months the car had become harder to start sometimes...Prior to the last couple of months it would always start...

MK1 172, I was sitting in my car, in a car park waiting for someone. (BTW - The car had been working perfectly for the drive to the car park.)
I was sitting with the ignition turned off, but was listening to the radio. Was waiting for about 15 minutes when all of a sudden my radio...
Just an update for those that are interested...
Ive just gotten my car back from the garage and it was an ISCV (Idle speed control valve) problem. Good call Stu8v.
The garage have replaced the valve and my car is running sweet once again.
Cheers edde, I have had problems with the throttle cable fraying before.
Usually when that happens you can put your toe under the accelerator pedal and lift it up to kill the revs. It was the first thing I tried when it started over revving.
Ill get it booked into a garage tomorrow...
I only left the battery disconnected for an hour yesterday as I was going out.
When I reconnected it the car was idling at 2000rpm so a slight improvement.
I left the battery disconnected for 3 hours today but it still idles at 2000rpm.
Guess itll be going to the garage tomorrow.

I pressume its coming from the air con unit, just started happening today, anyone know what I can do about it?
I have yoko a520s (205/40/16) all round on my mk1 172. In the dry they are superb, but in the wet they are lethal.....When Im next due to change my tyres I wont be getting them again. BTW what size are your a520s..?
