Electrical Issue - Trying to Start Kills Everything

Thread bump to close this out. After using some injector cleaner it was running ok again. It was occasionally lumpy for a few seconds when first started but would then be fine for he rest of the drive. It carried on like this for a few months until it suddenly deteriorated and was very rough...

Electrical Issue - Trying to Start Kills Everything

Ok so I took a look at it last night and whilst disconnecting the negative terminal clamp the wire just slipped out! It had worked lose which must have given a poor connection. Tightened it up and it started up straight away. Great news, however after maybe 30 seconds or so it started to have...

Electrical Issue - Trying to Start Kills Everything

I'll give this a go as soon as I get a dry evening (currently going through a patch of classic Welsh summertime!). If it fixes it then I'll have to start hunting for the dodgey earth (I'll start with the gearbox one though). Cheers for the input so far guys.

Electrical Issue - Trying to Start Kills Everything

Yeah they're tight. Will give that a try and see what it shows. Presumably you'd expect to see a momentary voltage drop?

Electrical Issue - Trying to Start Kills Everything

Nope, there is a click and everything goes dead. It's like it's blowing a fuse, except you can reset it. I have AA cover that includes the home help option so I'm tempted to give them a call one evening this week and see if they can diagnose it....

Electrical Issue - Trying to Start Kills Everything

Last weekend I drove my Clio 182 20 miles no problem, parked up ran a few errands, jumped back in and it started up fine, but whilst turning the car around it seemed like the engine was bogging down and I nearly stalled the car because the revs wouldn't pick up like normal, this problem went...

iOS 6.1 is out, Now 6.1.3

Re: iOS 6.1 is out, Now 6.1.2 Hi guys, I updated to 6.1.2 yesterday and it has screwed up the battery life. It was previously lasting 2 days per full charge with pretty heavy use (Internet use at least) and now lasts about 6-7 hours with next to no use! I went into an Apple store and they...

    Fans On Full Power

Whilst driving the other day, my fans decided to go on full power. I have no control of the fans power anymore, it is full all the time from the second you turn the key. I can still control temperature, and direction of the fans (at your feet, windscreen etc) but just always full power! I...

    Bronze cap on rear hub.

This keeps the grease in though doesnt it? Dont see why you would want to remove it (other than to get to the nut to take the disc off of course). I would say it is definitely worth keeping on though, so re-fit it if you are doing a rear disc change.

    Fancy alloy alternator setup

hhmm this is making me a little worried. I just thought it would be hard work parking etc, which I would just put up with.

    Fancy alloy alternator setup

You can keep the standard 172 rack no problem. At least this is what the guys at pure motorsport have done on their racecar. I spoke to them about this, and they said they have kept the existing rack, and just put a small section of pipe between the two ports to essentially seal the oil in there.

    Rear Hub Deflectors

No they are not against the old bearings. Only the bearing seals are present. And on one side the seal had come away and the bearing cage has disintegrated, hence noisy bearing. But defo no deflectors, after looking at pictures in the guides on here, and in the workshop manual. This would...

    Rear Hub Deflectors

I was changing the rear discs on the weekend, and discovered that my car didn’t have the spacer that goes between the disc and the hub (called a deflector). I have these parts on order now, with the car on stands until I get them as I didn’t want to risk damaging the new bearings by fitting...

    Radio Code... Confused!

So after having some work done on my car I lost the code due to the battery being disconnected. I got MATT BLACK to give me the code, but this didn’t work, and he said get me the code on the side of the unit and I will get you the proper code as it would appear your radio has been changed at...

When I got my clio I told myself that I wasnt going to do anything to it, but it is bits of kit like this that make me so tempted to start having a play with it!!

    172 cup gearbox

^^^ What he said. Mine is an 02 plate non cup and has the JC5129 box. You will need a box from a cup, or a box from an early 02 (or older) non cup, in order for you to be able to hook up your speedo. Everything else about the two boxes is the same as far as I know.

    do jms do gearbox refurbishment?

Re: does jms do gearbox refurbishment? Probably best to take it somewhere else for transmission issues. If you are looking for somewhere in the Uxbridge area, drop me a PM, and I will give you the details of the guys that sorted mine.

    172 Clutch or Circlip?

So it is confirmed as the circlip then. Just see how you get on, but I am sure you have read that just putting a new clip in (I assume you bought a new one) doesn't necessarily fix the problem! As sometimes it damages the groove when it pops off making it more likely to pop off again. On a...

    172 Clutch or Circlip?

With both wheels in the air, and the car in gear, spinning one wheel should result in the opposite wheel spinning the other way. But if you have a problem along the driveline somewhere this may not happen anymore. From what I have heard, I would be surprised if the circlip was actualy in...

    172 Clutch or Circlip?

I really would check the circlip in this case. It is what locates the diff in the box, and therefore what provides the mesh engagement of the diff's bevel gear. The clicking sounds you are speaking about could be the diff bouncing in and out of engagement with the final drive of the box...

    172 Clutch or Circlip?

Not circlip for sure, although this is defo what I would check first. This is exactly what happened to me, and my circlip was still in place. Turned out I had stripped the splines on the off side drive shaft (despite JMS assuring me they had checked this and they were fine!).

    Smoothed airbox, anyone tried it?

I used Fluent for a CFD project in my final year and its ok. But as I am pretty sure you need to use an external meshing programme (in my case I think it was called gambit) as Fluent is just a solver. Also I am surprised you are struggling with SolidWorks, it really is quite powerful, and...

Phase 2 172 cup and non cup box

Yeah it is a Phase 2, which does beg the question what the hell is going on? So far I thought this was normal as I was under the impression that the speedo sensor was on the box and not the wheel!

Phase 2 172 cup and non cup box

If this is the case, why does my car still register a speed when in gear even though the car is not moving? I would assume that if it is taking its speed from a sensor on the hub (ABS) then the wheels would need to be moving in order to register as speed? So far I have been led to believe...

Phase 2 172 cup and non cup box

If the JC5-129 has a manual speed sensor will I still be able to connect my speedometer up to etc? If you refer to the JC5-129 as having a manual sensor does that mean that the JC5-130 has an automatic one? What is the difference? Cheers

Phase 2 172 cup and non cup box

Quick question guys. Is there any difference between the gearbox fitted to the phase 2 172 cup and non cup cars? I have a normal 172 and the box has just gone, and there is a guy breaking a 172 cup on here with a gearbox for sale, just wanted to be sure. Cheers.

    Lost Drive Help Please!!!

Hey joseydee I take it you work at cliospares? I see there is a 172 cup currently being broken, is the box in that much different from mine? Could it be possible that these reconditioned boxs have slightly work sirclip grooves already? Or are these re-cut? Any idea how often you get in new...

    Lost Drive Help Please!!!

I am in Uxbridge, which is west london. If it is this circlip, I guess I would want to try and just replace it once and see how I get on as a new gearbox is probably going to set me back a big lump of cash. How easy is it to replace this circlip, can you do it with the gearbox etc still in the...
