    new alloys :)

Sure, they'll be 40 instead of 45 so you'll feel the bumps a bit more but I just don't see how it's going to affect handling. Grip won't be affected, so..? Not that I'd have 17s on mine, just wondering.

    new alloys :)

Never understood the handling thing. If the offset and rolling circumference are the same and the tyre width is the same how will it handle differently?

    new alloys :)

Are those TD Pro Race 1.2, 17x7? If so, what's the ET on them, and did you fit spacers?

    182 Cup Wheels

I've searched the forum but can't find the exact info I need. Looking to buy new wheels and keep the same specs but need to confirm what the specs are. I think that I should be looking for are 16" x 7" ET 45 Bore 60.1 with 205/45 tyres. Is that right - bold bits I'm unsure about? (Had a look at...

    Buying a clio 172 with 12 owners

Run a mile (which is likely further than the car would get you).

Pop and bang Rs Tuner - mega lol

I had mine on a base map for a few weeks, how embarrassing. Sounded like a gunfight in a tin s**t-house. I once walked 5 miles rather than drive it. Thank God it's properly mapped now, not a pop or a bang to be heard.

    Clio v6 buying advice

Thanks for all the input, some nice cars there. Hopefully I'll be in a position to do some proper looking early next year - need the garage rebuilding first cos Cumbrian weather isn't too car friendly.

    Clio v6 buying advice

ddouble - I'm OCD when it comes to researching. Took me 6 months to find the 182 Cup and spent literally hours checking the car and looking through the paperwork (even had the owner return the V5 to correct a VIN typo before I'd buy!) I'm not on any particular budget but I just would never spend...

    Clio v6 buying advice

Thanks for the replies, even the one on fire... :( I'll certainly be having a look early next year to see if I can find a decent example, prob ph 2 as SMK suggests, but it needs to be a fair price too. My mechanic would be fine for the belts, etc. he's pretty good and works on all sorts of...

    Clio v6 buying advice

Fletcher - I'll have to get in there first, there doesn't seem to be hardly any for sale recently! KFRRS94 - That's what I'm thinking, tired of being sensible. It's the f***-offness of the V6 that attracts me more than anything else. Matt W - I'll check it out although I can't really comment...

    Clio v6 buying advice

I didn't know there was a special V6 site, I'll go and ask there too. Thanks for the info. BTW I saw a LY v6 for sale a while ago but IIRC it was £21K!! Very nice though.

    Clio v6 buying advice

I'm thinking of buying a V6 next spring, if I can find one, and wondered if anybody has any advice or experiences of what to look out for. I'm not fussed about MPG or practicality (otherwise I'd buy a Prius!) more about reliability and build quality. I've seen a few low mileage Ph1's for sale...

    CAM BELT EXPERIENCES -

Done mine at 34K (3.5 years from reg), and it'll be done again at 70K.

Seen a 172, but is it worth the money?

Stay well away. Forecourt price would be at least £3.6K for a decent example. The trader knows something's very wrong and the fact that the original belt's still on at 72K (!!!!!!) confirms that there is. It hasn't been properly looked after. If I were you I'd look for a private sale with about...

Engine Management Light Flashing - Car running 'lumpy' (Limp mode)

My understanding (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not a mechanic!) is that if the lamda sensor is screwed it will think there is more or less oxygen in the emissions than there is, and feedback that info so the fuel mixture is altered. So if the mixture is wrong, with too much or...

Engine Management Light Flashing - Car running 'lumpy' (Limp mode)

Took mine to an independent garage. I think you can do it yourself if you've got the right stuff but I'm not a mechanic, I don't know what you'd need. As long as the garage has diagnostics they'll be able to do it. Sometimes it's a long job to pinpoint the problem, though, but you need to do it...

Engine Management Light Flashing - Car running 'lumpy' (Limp mode)

You need to get it hooked up to diagnostics and get the codes read, although the results are sometimes a bit cryptic. In my case, first just the light flashed a couple of times, then OK for about 12 months, then it came on solid occasionally, then I noticed the odd misfire (always followed by...

    Insuring your excess...

Yeah, you always have to pay your excess out. If you're unlucky you won't get it back but most times you do. As an aside, I just ran some quotes for my own car for excesses of £100 and £2000. The difference in premium was £11 per year - not worth even thinking about insuring.

    Insurance up 20% this year!

You're right about that probably being the reason, but it's not logical. They are insuring me, not any other driver. I provide all my details like no claims, accidents, points, where I live, etc. and they should only use that information. It's not really relevant if an 18 year old from across...

    Insurance up 20% this year!

With renewal coming up I'm getting increasingly p****d off with these stupid quotes for the 182. Cheapest so far - £520. It would be £115 CHEAPER for me to insure a 3.2 v6 Crossfire Coupe, which if this goes on might be what I end up with. £500 probably doesn't seem much to most people on here...

    Insuring your excess...

Doesn't sound a good deal at all, especially when you consider you'll only pay an excess if you're at fault, or the other driver is uninsured. So if you're a decent driver, chances are you'll have your excess paid by a third party anyway. And £60 a year to insure £750 is actually a terrible deal...

What counts as a modification to insurance companies?

Most insurers have no idea about mods. They are clerks who read from a computer screen and don't know the difference between a supercharger and a brake pad. My only mod is a Milltek exhaust that I bought because I didn't want to get pounded in the ass fitting a Renault original. Doesn't add...

would never ever buy another clio :(

It's stupid. If I'm the driver then I should be the risk, not the car. I've way way way more risk crashing a Ferrari (and more cost if I do) than a Clio, yet both for me are the same price insurance. It's basically a big rip off. I talked to an insurance company today and they said if I can...

would never ever buy another clio :(

In 2 yrs 3 months I've had the management light come on a few times and also, a, er... no, that's it. If you look after them they tend to be OK. Only thing that would stop me getting another is insurance. I can afford it but I don't like being ripped off. It's outrageous bearing in mind I'm an...

    Disappointed with Pioneer TS-Q131C

For home sounds it's a good rough rule to spend at least twice the price of your player on your amp and 2x your amp on your speakers. Probably doesn't translate that well to ICE but having a £250 head unit with £70 speakers won't make for great sounds IMO.

    Tyre fitters to avoid

You shouldn't need 4 done. I kerbed mine a while back and the mobile guy got a match by mixing different shades first then comparing them on bits of cardboard against the other wheels. Cost £70 which was not the cheapest but OK.
