in ten years of owning my 172 excl never needed one , take the bolt out give it a squirt /drowning of wd or such like . then with a solid punch positioned verticaly down as close to the bj as you can .a sharp crack with a hammer off they come ,
one thing i forgot to say if the windscreen washer performance dies ,ive put a model fuel filter in line by the n/s bonnet hinge . unscrew it take out the small brass guaze wash out and replace ...no more blocked jets

heres a few snap shots ..
the original horn is earth return ie earthed via the bracket make sure its clean and the air intake duct bracket isnt isolating the bracket to the horn .
some mot testers dont like air horns full stop regardless of how many horns its got and will fail it as i found out ,its only been fitted...
renault will say it isnt available complete throttle body only ,thats because they cant be asked to look at the hardware catalouge.

if the valve on the charcoal canister is messing around it will suck in air ,mixture goes rich to compensate gives you very lumpy/kangarooie between 1200-2000 ,cut pipe from cannister to manifold and block up manifold end it will run completly different almost normal
and if you need a throttle pot for it ,you can get through renault , you just need the guy behind the counter to go looking as consult will only say its not available
originals still going strong 85k miles later its all down to cleanlyness make sure theres no grease on joint or boot lip if there is it will slip and fall off at some stage
open bonnet . looking at the engine its on the rhs follow the end of the head down until you make contact with the top of the bellhousing of the gearbox . its held on the bellhousing with 2 x 10mm bolts

make sure the drain tubes are clear and intact ,you might end up taking the wing liners out for access to the other end of the tube to make sure.

that pin is just below the motor ,there's a grommet in the panel a little grease on there helps. its easy to miss and you can still bolt down the mechanism .
whilst its out on the bench pop the operating arms off ,on the spindles (wiper arm side) theres a circlip. take it off then the washer...
