Performance Car Magazine had the Cup as a long termer and loved every minute of it. Not a bad word said about it in their 6 months of having it.

Cover the sensors inside and see if it still does it. Possible Air Freshener moving, spider even, or simply set too sensitive. Could be weak battery setting it off that's what I found mine to be after weeks of upsetting the neighbours.
I'd personally go for something like the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 which has a 1cm Macro to X18 Zoom. Had a play with one of these and very nice indeed. You could spend the change on a lense adapter and some good filters ie polarizer etc to take some nice landscape/car shots.

I have had a Longlife on my Phase 1 for a couple of years and have had no trouble with it. My only gripe is that it's a little too loud although I asked for a quiet system, but thats just a personal preference. Service was excellent.
Could be all sorts of things. Happened to me and it was the Lambda Sensor. Knock it in the head mate and be patient, there's plenty about at the moment.
