I was having the same annoying problem - the trip meter was always resetting itself upon starting the car. It began in the Australian summer so cold wasn't an issue, then progressively became worse. With starts getting harder (now in winter), I just changed the battery and the trip meter is...
After hopefully solving an issue with a loose bolt, I now have to replace the alternator drive belt.
There doesn't seem to be a tensioner that allows the belt tension to be reduced enough to get it back on - or I'm just not seeing it.
Would anyone have any hints?
