Questionable dent removal technique?

I went to get a quote from a local specialist (this guy used to be a chips away guy), for removing a couple of small dents from just behind the side doors. Both sides.

The dents are about 1 inch and 9 inches behind the door shuts.

Now he says that to get them out he'll have to drill :)quiet:) through from the door shut to either get behind them or to pull them out!

This obviously doesn't sound ideal to me.
Is that standard practice for removing these kind of dents?

It is standard practice, they bung it up with a small black plastic thing so you'll never notice it.

HOWEVER! My dent guy uses this as the last resort. He prefers to use a glue gun and 'pull' the dent out sharply if its in a place that is difficult to access. (I can't explain it very well...)

Cheers Superfast.

I wouldn't mind as much if he was on about doing it near the middle of the shut, but he's talking about drilling only a few mm in from the edge i.e. on the lip. Surely a bung there would be noticeable?

I've never known them to drill there... :S

Everytime we've had it done they do it bang in the middle so when the plastic thing goes in it just looks like part of the door. If its at the edge it will look well odd!

Well i asked if he could do it near the middle and he said he didn't want to incase he hits a pillar!

Second body shop i went to ask told me to "see a dent specialist". Useful people.

Car trade is full of cretins mate.

Where do you live?

Mansfield. If i was anywhere near Brizzle i'd be asking for your man's number!

Ive got a mate who does dents and ive never seen him drill anywhere, must be the very last resort.
Was the first thing this guy suggested.

He came recommended from a lass at work who's family are well into their motors as well.

I would have had a heart-attack if I saw the bloke who removed my door-ding, resort to a drill!

D.
I was quite surprised hence this thread.
They're only really minor as well. Just thought i may as well get it done whilst i'm having the bumper resprayed.

I'd put up a ''WANTED: DENT MAN IN MANSFIELD'' thread if I was you.

For peace of mind more than anything!

Remove the interior panels yourself to save the guy time? if you can get to the inside of the panel he shouldnt have to drill an access hole.
