Does anyone know this car?

I've bought this car HF02 XAM, it's got some funny goings on under the bonnet, like brackets missing odd routing of cables etc so I'm trying to do a bit of background research on it.

Does anyone know it or know of any previous owners?

Yeah flame red ph2, it's not great to be honest at the moment, I have to admit it is a big mistake by me but I think I will have to make the best of it. Few bits needed to make looking at it on a dry day bearable!

What do they say about buying a car on a wet day?

The air filter to slam panel bracket and the radiator is levitating and the fuel rail guard has gone AWOL too. The bonnet catch isnt catching only the release hook so it's liable to fly open.

It just looks like some ones taken it to pieces and lost half of it putting it back together. I'm also used to my previous 182 being absolutely pristine.

I said I fancied a project, well I've got one!

Sounds like a neglected example. How much did you pay for it ? If it was dirt cheap I guess you can't complain too much . Depends how much money you want to throw at it to get it back to being a half decent car. It had hell of alot of MOT failures and advisories back in September 2017. Looks like it was then taken off the road for 6 months after it failed.

No it doesnt appear that kind of car really, looks more like a monkey spanners on it. It's got character that's for sure.

It did and I knew it, I hpi'd it which came back clear just kicking myself for not looking it over better. I've raised the issues with the guy who is a Mechanic at a place ironically called Motofix in Aberdare, he offered to look at it but the hassle of taking it back over to Wales to leave then pick up I think I'd rather he didn't touch it. I'll post a video of it.

Mine’s for sale and near concours condition inside and out!
Cheaper than buying and fixing up a rough one!
Only one person has been to see it and they said it was “too good” and they would be afraid to leave it anywhere
(But it’s only a Clio....not a Ferrari. Although l take care, I park it anywhere and it’s never been touched)

That's a kind offer but I'd need to shift this first to free up the cash assuming I could afford yours, how much were you asking?

There is one positive with it, on the way back it returned a healthy 42mpg

  Land Rover
That’s pretty good MPG

Mine is in the 30’s in normal driving but if l drive it REALLY carefully (with no big hills) l can get the computer to indicate 50mpg

My car is in the for sale section on this forum....
Probably three times what you paid for yours though

Yeah pretty much that mate, I think the engine is pretty sound I will possibly do a compression test and plug my ebay diagnostics reader in to it see how that comes back. Other than that it really is just cosmetics so I might just take my contacts out when I go near it?

You should be able to get a fuel rail guard for a tenner delivered, and spray both that and your inlet manifold. It'll make it look 10x better

I’ve seen worse engine bays than that, soon have that looking better.
It’s more the case of what else is needed, cam belt clutch water pump aux belt....

Clutch is fine, cam belt and water pump due in two years so the aux is due now really but I will attempt that myself.
Really is the peeling lacquer on the bump strips and chips and door dents. Then bits that just make it look ugly like corroded wiper arms.

Looks perfectly fine for an old cars engine bay tbh?! I wouldn't worry to much tbh, highly doubtful thats been put back in standard for sale as it looks like how averages joes bay would look if they just drove the car and didnt clean/change parts unless completely required, eg like 99% of car owners.

True enough

On a couple of the Clio 172/182 l looked at, the hinges actually creaked as the bonnet was raised.

Not too dissimilar to mine. Looks like the front has been off (radiator change?) It won't be a show car, but its what you want to do with it. If it burns no oil, pulls well and the gears all go in OK and no knocks and if no lights on the dash, just enjoy driving it (after the ubiquitous £1k you need to spend after buying any car).
