Renault 5 GT Turbo

Lovely looking motor you have there. Looks like an absolute minter!
I'd love one of these as a toy, can't beat the sound of turbo spooling and wastegate chatter.

That is one lovely motor.
I'm on the search for one at the moment, but cannot find anything decent.
There's one in the pipeline on RTOC that i'm interested in, but think i'm gonna have to wait a while for that one.

id have moved the header tank to offside front just a little further from the heat the turbo gives off, and closer to water pump.

STUNNING - The only thing I would change is the seats back to the standard ones, then it would be perfect in everyway!

Currently recomissioning this for Benj after a decent layup. 7 years since building/installing the engine last time how time flies.

Bodyshop let the engine and running gear get in a bit of a state and various hoses had perished, ign components knackered and poorly fitted thatcham alarm melted interior loom so plenty of work to do.

Comp test - all seems ok

Cleaned up and ready to strip down

Refurbished carb

Stripped engine down to bare block. New hoses going on - fmic - new t25 etc. Parts are now quite hard and expensive to find sadly but coming together steady away.

Cracking car, amazing how puny the downpipe is!

Im sure the downpipe was a ktec 2.25" with bored out elbow. It was on my Extra van years ago ran 235hp on it and 12sec qtr ? still small by todays standards though !

Maybe it's just the angle, just looks really tiny!

I blew my chances by selling my Williams one when it was rock bottom #idiot

I regret not buying a williams when the prices were rock bottom. Always liked the look of them but at the time i wasnt interested as no turbo ! How times change lol.

Hi Benj and fellow Clio lovers!

I have a question regarding the radiator location and / or size in your car. From your photos we can see a huge opening to the left of the radiator. Why did you not install a wider radiator, or move your existing one to the left together with the intercooler, and then you will have space for air going straight to your airfilter, which now is hidden behind the intercooler.

I am asking this, as I am really thankful for you sharing your build and learning from all of you.

I have a 88 one, and looking for ways to optimize cooling and airflow in the engine bay.

Appreciate your replies, in this great Renault 5 GT Turbo thread!

I built the above gtt, Its not possible to move the rad over due to the boost pipework, and wider radiator would need to be custom which would be expensive, as nothing available off the shelf anymore. Air filter is in the best position behind the headlamp.
