Dat Lease Life - 2017 Golf GTI.

There were a lot of hooky VW deals around for a while with commercial rates being offered to private customers etc. There were Golf Rs for £220 which is nuts.

Just collected mine today, my deal was 2400 and 165pm for White DSG 10k. I think there were about 230cars on that deal.

I've been told there will be deals on the GT and R estate in November by VWFS which means all dealers should have access. The numbers are not released yet but the vw been told it's a 3+23 deal and not too expensive.

It would've cost £220 with about £2200-2400 down for me to get the R when I got my GTI, but I prefer the GTI personally so was happy it's finally cheaper. For ages its only been R's on deal!

Speaking of golf R's, rumour has it that a great golf R estate deal will be available in november.
Love the wagons so much!

Yes that sounds about right!

Yeah as said, they're staggering the releases over the quarters. Good for everyone I think!

What time of year was that, assuming the deals are about due to sales teams having to meet their full/half year quotas?

The only deals ive seen close were £2k down and about £150pm on 10k. They released this officially so a certain youtuber could get one cheap I think only 1 deal of that went through.... thats all ill say.

I feel like you must've misread, or it was a misprint (which is common). That'd work out at £5760 over the term, the "Cheap deals" most people on various forms rush for are anywhere between £6750-£7500 over the term on 10k miles.

They release the cars at quarters in certain numbers, a VW Lease boss gave me a run down on how they work it. Last time they released them all at once, meaning they all came back at once and that meant a bit of a nightmare for VW Approved used. It's calculated on vehicles residual values. I'd say just dont pay more than £7250 over 2 years on 10k miles.

Nope 100% wasnt a mistake. Know a few people on the forums that went through with it. I originally started looking from this thread on piston heads in April:

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=86&t=1664233

Only option was rubin black and red i think, was very limited numbers and sold out quick. Ive deleted the email but had the offer ready to sign, was 1x23 at £240, scary cheap!

Looking at how nice yours is now Jason i could kick myself!

These are the deals i tried to get in April, only didnt see any this cheap myself! That is pretty insane, i take it back they did exist it seems! I nearly ended up going £2500 down and £280 a month but glad the lease company involved were useless and I stuck out for my deal lol

Never seen the colour before but quite like it.

How does the deal work?

2k deposit, plus £5040 over the 24 months so a total of £7040.

What happens after the 24 months? Do you get any of that cash back or have you simply rented a car for 24 months at a cost of £7040 and then hand it back in?

It's a lease so it's agreed from the off that you do not own the car and will never own the car, unless you receive the option to purchase at the end, which is not always offered.

You build up no equity in the car whatsoever. You provide an initial up-front payment, followed by X monthly payments over a set term. You give the car back at the end and that's pretty much it.

Rinse and repeat. There's actually some cracking offers on the Skoda Octavia VRS 245 atm. It's not everyone's cup of tea but cracking value as a cheaper alternative to the Golf GTI.

This, you're essentially paying the depreciation. Although most of the time it works out less, and therefore sort of works out. It's only a daily so im not that bothered about owning it and works out well.

Nice colour, but sod the lease on that car. But then I don't like them so each to their own
I get each to their own but I'm the opposite, I've never understood whats not to like about a GTI. Then again I seem to be hoarding them so maybe I'm bias, I just think they're perfect all rounders.

First thing i'd be doing is taking it to stage 1 personally. I love the cabin, they're nice cars. Just doesn't do anything for me personally. Heck, even the new Hyundai has more character

Stage 1 on a lease car might not be the best idea.
Bloke on pistonheads has blown up the engine on his golf R, being charged £10k to replace it, on a lease car!

I have a mk6 gti dsg had it 3 years never missed a beat still love driving it today as much as the day i had it . Perfect all round car imo does everything well .
Will only be changing it for a mk7 gti .

I went for the GTD to replace my Octavia. Like yours the spec as standard is really good.

I've found the step from the MK5 rather large, but what impresses me is it feels more towards the MK2 to drive than the MK5 did. A much more pointy nose and lively back end!

Absolute beaut! I very nearly went for the Diesel, but I veered off at the last minute.

Such a lovely motor. We had one in work last week that didn’t look as well as yours!!

In fairness, the Hyundai-i30-n is a different type of hot hatch. It's not designed to be as good a daily as the golf, its a bit more focused.

You don't try and beat vw at the golf gti game. You'll lose.

Is that dsg ? what mpg you getting ?

Went for the manual and to be totally honest I haven't really driven it properly yet. I got sent to the Carribean to help with the hurricane clean up 2 days after taking delivery. On the one short journey I did do I think it averaged 45mpg.

A lot of journos don't feel the same way as you do (regarding the i30n). Having been out in a brand new GTI I honestly don't see what the fuss is about. If it's not as focused, then what is it? A car with a GTI badge, and that's it?

Strokes for different folks, I guess. They're obviously doing something right.

You're missing my point. The hyundai is a brilliant car. But it's more focused than the gti (by all accounts). That's not what the gti is all about, it's about being the consummate all rounder.

Cars like the club sport and r take care of the enthusiasts that want the more focused side of things.

lol, that's so weak. You can put the e-diff into Club Sport mode anyway. Why even bother with the GTi, then. Plenty of other great cars in the Golf lineup without the badge.

Another Jason "New car thread". I got a little tired of driving old shitters to and from work, and a little tempted by these lol lease deals you see flying around. One thing sort of led to another, and after a few months wait, I took delivery of this:

View attachment 1337454

MK7.5 Golf GTI, 5 Door, "Rubin Black" with a Manual box. This is absolutely base spec, with no options. Both me and a chap at work ordered one at the same due to their cheapness, his is a more interesting colour so it's taking longer and cost a bit more. However, I'm quite liking this Purple/Mauve/Poop colour its got going on.

View attachment 1337455

First impressions are good, very very good. 230BHP is the standard output, feels very punchy throughout the rev range. Has phenomenal grip for what is now quite a large car, the nose is proper pointy and the rear does like to step out which helps. In typical GTI fashion, it's also good on fuel (around 35-40mpg achievable) and very comfortable. Business as usual then.

View attachment 1337456

I've also never had a car with so many options on it as standard. Big sat nav screen, with another screen instead of a traditional instrument cluster (Great distraction playing with this while driving). Radar guided cruise control, heated seats, apple car play, headlights that can see through time. It's all S Class level stuff in a little Golf, it feels a genuine big step up from the MK7 it replaced.

View attachment 1337457

As for leasing, so far its been very simple and stress free. The car was ordered, and I was then given its tracking number which allowed you to watch it through every stage of the process on the VW website. It was personally delivered to my door, with only one scratch to grumble about. A lot of people asked about what it cost, and whilst discussing such things is seen as a no no normally a few friends have nearly took the plunge on much more expensive "deals". So in the interest in telling folks how cheap they are if you HOLD OUT for deals. Mines a 10k a year deal, 9p per mile overcharge. £2k inc VAT down, £210 per month over 24 months.

I feel i should update this thread as a guinea pig to those thinking of jumping into a lease for their new car/workhorse/school runner/ tank.

Whats' the latest update on this mate ? Any problems how's the performance and mpg ?

Evenin'.

Well, as to be expected, it just gets better really. MPG ranges from 30-40, on my daily drive its around 35mpg. Thats a proper real world mixed test, I leave at about 6am and take A Roads, B Roads, Dual Carriageways and drive through a town.

As for performance, you'd probably never need anything more. Super sharp front end, surprisingly lively rear too. Had it sideways in the dry, to me thats the mark of a well set up FWD chassis. The main barrier you have to get past (or at least I did) was the steering feel, its not as communicative as my M3 or obviously the MK2 GTI. However, I do think its an improvement on previous generations and its very far from numb or anything like that. It's actually rather amusing how much character it shares with my MK2 in the way it flings its way down the road, they even average the same MPG lol.

The infotainment is a godsend for my commute, DAB Radio and Apple CarPlay in particular are going to be an absolute must have for any new car I purchase. It was also surprisingly practical when moving house this past week or two, with the seats down you can shove a lot of my s**t in there.

So yeah, I may be biased. But I still consider a Golf GTI to be the best car you can actually buy. I've been in a few of the alternatives, and right now there's nothing I'd have over it. The new Megane will be an exciting prospect, I'm hoping by the time the lease is up they have some sort of Trophy version around and I may consider it as a new daily. Will be difficult to shift from a GTI though!

Off topic & 4 months late but that car canopy is absolutely begging to have a 1.5 width garage door whacked on the front, a wall on the back and a door into your downstairs...

Hah... so random but I have looked into it. The picture is a little misleading as the house to the left of the isn't mine. My house is on the right and the door would have to go through my kitchen works tops. The main issue is the drive has a slight slant to it so will need levelling but ultimatly I prefer just the car port, no frost in the morning, no opening the door every time I get home and its really good for car cleaning

Love the mk7 GTi. Was seriously considering replacing my Mk5 GTi with one.
Ended up going for the VRS 245 deal instead as I wanted abit more boot space.

Will seriously miss the GTi. Longest I’ve ever owned a car at 7 years... which says a lot about the car really!

Just thought I'd update with the whole lease life.

Just over a year into having it, and I cant see me letting go easy come handback time. I'll either see if they want to cut a good deal on this (in very rare occasions they let you extend a lease or just buy it off them rather than go to BCA) or I'll be finding which auction it went to lol! I really do love it that much. Hopefully by September 2019 we have a worthy MK8 GTI replacement I can plump for?

Couple of pics from a recent trip to Wales. The journey there was super comfortable, the driving while I was there super entertaining. What more do you need?
