Airbox/Induction kit. Who runs what?.

Best setup I had was a ph1 airbox with the resonator pipes (?) disconnected. Fatty sounded mental but got a bit annoying after a while.

Actually think I did the same with my cup and just disconnected the resonator pipes

This is my "Fatty setup"
Sounds good and does seem to pick up better but could be (and probably is) just placebo. but even if it is it makes the whole Experience more fun in my book so why not ?

Standard airbox with a panel filter, Fatty intake and such is all good fun but the noise get annoying real quick if you're driving the car for any length of time.

I've been driving my Clio daily for the last few weeks for the first time in about two years and I still love the noise of the fatty intake. Makes the car sound angry when you want it but, if you drive gently, it's pretty quiet to be honest. Let's face it, if you're into refinement, a Clio probably isn't the car to buy.

Ktec, purely due to the one piece of re-inforced silicon rather than cheap bits stuck together, have ran various different ones over the years and found this to be the best, however the 'fatty' (hate that name for it btw just coz he made a popular thread about it) is fine for a budget version.

Recently went back to standard air filter after running a KTEC induction for a few months, it may just be the 'placebo' affect but I'm sure it feels a little slower now...
Maybe it's just because there's so much less drama without the noise.

Yeah. It just about broke Cliosport when I asked some questions about it when I bought the car.

I like it. It's needed a battery relocation (a small battery in scuttle) but it sounds nice and pulls well. I stuck the standard box on to try and I preferred this. Maybe placebo but it felt like it pulled and revved better.

I've seen one on a Cup racer at rentec and some R3 rally cars if you Google them.

That's not the 'proper' R3 airbox. They had a fruity carbon one. The Cup racers used the one above and maybe the R3 Access cars. I'm sure @NorthloopCup will correct me though.

Induction kits are a funny beast.

I remember doing a dyno day with some guys trying to cheat in an amateur BMW cup. The plan was to install a restriction washer on the airbox so that on the official power measurements it'd come in under power so they didn't need any ballast.

Lots of tinkering, the washers didn't make much difference when using the K&N style open cone intakes. Put the standard box back in (as they assumed it'd be less) and the car made 15hp more than the best power run with the open cone.

After that I figured maybe open cones are only good for turbo cars where flow isn't that important. I tried one on my BMW for about a week, I was datalogging and with the open cone filter, intake air temps went sky high on long WOT blasts. Put the standard box back in and they're half what they were. Doesn't sound as good, but so what.

Unless the car is famous for having a restrictive intake (which the 182 is not) I wouldn't bother with any sort of aftermarket intake unless you're experimenting/want the different sound.

Mine made a smidgen over 179bhp with a fatty and an exhaust (not remapped) so it doesn't appear to be a bad thing running an open cone on a 172/182.

Tbh it doesn't feel any quicker than when the standard airbox was on it, but I love the induction noise when flooring it now.

Im running oem ph2 172 box and filter on my kangoo. I have a ph1 box which i tried recently - made a decent noise with no cold air feeds but felt like it had lost torque in the mid range ? Could have been placebo i guess ?

Fancied trying a v6 espace box but they are rocking horse s**t to find now so might mod the ph1 box to similar.

Also another option i have considered is gen4 clio cup airbox. Look very similar to the old espace v6 box . Not sure on availability though i guess you would need to order from R-sport or similar

Tried the fatty but didn't get on with it so ended up with a V6 airbox and ITG filter on the cup, more noise than standard when foot down but still similar to standard the rest of the time, I had the air feed pipe removed and was going to do a cold air feed from the front fog but didn't get round to it before I sold the car ?
