172 cup suspension?

following on from my thread

not sure if I have standard suspension or not on my 172 cup?

it is weeping at the top, and the rubber on the bottom half is knackered.

I cant afford £5-700 quid for coilovers atm, do I get something second hand or go for standard again etc?

Or just leave it as it is? Car feels fine etc, but fast on very hard bumpy corners something is catching a little bit, i am unsure what.

If the hubs are original 172 54mm bolt spacing 172cup shocks will bolt straight on. If they are 60mm 182 hubs use 182cup shocks.

The springs aren't standard (could be eibach sportlines). The shocks could be but judging by the condition of them and the fact that the bumpstop is missing off the dustcover (which is also split) I'd replace the shocks and perhaps keep the springs if they still look serviceable.

I'll try and dig out a decent pic of my eibachs when I was installing them on my cup but they were the same shade of red as yours

If it's a 172 Cup, it will 99.9% be the 54mm spacing, as that's what they were from the factory. Pretty unlikely that it's had 182 Cup hubs fitted. Fitting fresh factory dampers is a decent move and, last time I bought some, they weren't actually all that expensive. Think the rears were about £80 for the pair.

ahh yes, previous owner did say it had eibach springs all round.

Which bolt spacing do i need to measure? actually at the hub or at the top?

Measure between the bolt holes at the bottom of the shock. 54mm is 172, 172 cup and 182 without cup packs. 60mm is 182 Full Fat (handling cup pack) and the 182 cup.

Shocks don't leak oil up to the top mounts. They drop down onto the struts. That looks like someone has lubricated the top mounts as you have spherical ball top mounts fitted. Nothing needs doing at all

Well I Say nothing needs doing. An inspection to find the cause of the catching maybe necessary. A new bump stop would also be a good idea especially if you want to track the car

Yes you have standard suspension with after market springs. Yes you would benefits from updating the dampers as they look like they have seen better days.

GSF parts £30 a side ?
