New car...again....Kit car content

A carbon dash from GBS is £300. I'd love to have the real thing, but I ain't paying that
Understand that

Price of carbon has really gone up.

When i built my westy my mog racing carbon kevlar seats were £350 now they are £800 each and you cant have the carbon/kevlar to the outer shell

Think i worked out all the carbon on my old car came to 5k in todays prices

Fortunately all the pictures on the mog website are mine as i helped develop the stuff

Also managed to pick up some cheap part worn NS2-Rs this morning. Still got s**t loads left on them and only 20 quid each!

Got a load more rivets to drill out tomorrow, and then remove the front suspension. It'll be ready for wrapping next weekend hopefully

Love this! So jealous as I want a kit car badly but at 4 cars we just don’t have the space now.
I like all the carbon wrapped bits, they’re much improved over the red!

Cheers Vicky, yeah the red definitely had to go!

Make the space for one :)

James are you using 3m carbon wrap ?

It works really well and have to say your transformation is looking great .

Nice find on the tyres too , are you running 13 or 15" wheels ?

Cheers mate. It's not 3M no, it's a brand called KPMF. Im impressed with it so far.
Arches will be going gloss black, and the rest of the body is a matt grey. Although im not overly convinced by the colour now I've ordered it, but I'll give it a go see how it looks.

It's on 15s mate

Reading this is making me realise how much I want to get my garage sorted and get something to do a bit of spannering on. Damn.
I think the taking bits off and putting it back on again will probably be almost as much fun as driving it. It's one thing I really missed with the M3, being able to just tinker and not worry about breaking something or affecting its value etc

Started to wrap today. Ideally I would of liked to of drilled out all the rivets and replaced, but f**k that. The whole thing is held together with rivets, it'd take me months to wrap it.

Dash placed back in to see how it'll look

Starting to strip the front end down aswell now as the front suspension arms need to come off to make wrapping easier. I'll replace the bushes aswell as I've found a bit of play in the upper wishbone

Let's see how it looks when I've done the rest of it before I start offering out my services, or accepting complements 😂

Cheers though

It's not perfect, but it's good enough for me. There's just one bit where I trimmed a bit short, but f**k it.

Drivers side, rear panel, and rear arches to go. I don't think there's a chance in hell I'll manage to wrap the nosecone, so I may just buy a new one already in black.

I then need to design some sort of vinyl stripes/stickers the side, just to break the grey up a bit

Ok so it turns out wrapping isn't so easy after all.

All was going well

Until I burnt a f**king hole in the wrap! w**k!

I think I'll buy some black arches 😂

But... but.... you're adding weight to the car! You'll need to remove some bolts to compensate, get rid of half the ones holding the wishbones on, it'll be fine.

Passenger side suspension is back on. I've also sorted a bit of play in the wishbones I found. This was due to the crush tubes through the middle of the bushes being a touch too long.

Exhaust is now back on, and I've moved the car over in the garage to give more room all round it

Drivers side now stripped ready for wrapping next weekend

Not updated this in a while as progress has been slow due to 6 weeks away down in south wales. I'd got the odd bit done here and there at weekends but theres still a bit to do.

Everything is now wrapped apart from the nose cone, which I keep putting off as I know its going to be a ballache. I attempted the rear arches a second time, and wasnt happy with the outcome. Ordered a brand new set in black instead. Just waiting for those to arrive now.

Reconnected the battery and started it for the first time since around November time. Started first time. The cold map needs bit of a tweak I think as it runs a bit poo when cold

How will that wrap fare against the zorst?

This is a proper project, bet it'll be unbeatable fun on track.

If you were sat at the traffic lights and started resting your arm on the side could you accidentally touch the exhaust or is it super awkward to do that from inside the car?

Something I've wondered for a while
