A boy i know that has one that went pop a while back said the engine all in was 7k and four wheels lead time from Germany?

What a shame.
Hope it all gets sorted with minimum fuss.
Oh and you should demand one of those 5.0 mustangs for a courtesy car.

It's an unusual kink, but whatever floats your boat

Relatively speaking you've not been around here long...this explains your complete disrespect for the gloves. You'll learn.

I feel sorry for your dealer. Will they get update each day of the ML it has dropped?

I'm waiting on a call back from them right now to start that process!

With pictures.

The last three starts have all sounded like this...it's gone from one in every four or five starts to almost every time. I hope the dealership see sense today and don't just top the coolant up and hand it back.

At least it's happened once people know there's a problem and you don't have to be one of the first, wondering whether they'll ever work out the resolution. CouldBeWorse.JPG

Sorry to hear this albeit, I've heard a lot worse!
Bearing in mind it's not too severe, I fear you will be sent home topped up but fingers crossed they are proactive and provide a decent response.
Looking forward to the courtesy car review, hopefully it's a new fiesta.

Any word on what the official line is for a permanent fix, Mark?

Then with the upbeat tunes kicking in, he could sling his gloves straight through the none leaky sunroof of his new beamer, while speaking on the fone to ford about how they can stick their focus where the sun dont shine, when cruising and grinning at 130mph down the M6 while violently flashing his lights at the cars infront demanding them to move over and let him pass.

Day 1 - in the ///M

I'm feeling that ^^^ b**ches.

I did take my gloves out last time but completely forgot to use them as I was being so awesome without them.

In other news, complete replacement engine is scheduled for delivery to dealer Friday 8th December. That's quite quick compared to what others have experienced.

+ hire car 0-100 video coming soon.

That's not bad, and also good that they didn't mess about, I guess the technical bulletins are out now. Either that or they watch your YT vids, power of celebrity and all that :D

Assume they've solved the problem now then, & they're not going to do what Porsche did with the 987 3.4's and just fit another newer version of the same problematic engine that's fitted to it already View attachment 1346336

This is what the internet needs to know and why I've asked for comfort that I'm not going to be back again with the same problem in six months time. Unlikely I'll get a definitive answer but that won't stop me pestering them for one!

So no BANG BANG video? 😞
How will ou know if they repklace the engine and not just do a bodge job?

I'd have thought if they do a bodge job then it'll break again and it'll get fixed again?

How will it affect the re sale price ? How many of them are due / expected to have this done ?

TBH engine replacement at a main dealer is a selling point for most cars, especially in this scenario where you have a marque with a known major fault - if you're buying a used one then you'd prefer to get one that's had preventative work, whether that's a result of it becoming faulty in the first place or not...

Though I imagine it's largely irrelevent since Mark says he's never selling it.

I will sell it eventually...but there's no hurry at all, I'm curious what will happen to the value of it over time. Getting it moving about daily is a wonderful thing, understanding and analysing the hell out of it comes a close 2nd

As for the engine replacement? At worst I can see it being neutral but most likely it will be a plus point when it comes to selling...especially considering how widely known the issue is in the RS community.

Is there a total among forums of how many cars are affected yet? Would be interesting to know what percentage of cars are about to blow up..

Based on forum reports a fair estimate from what we know so far would around 5% or so. Some suggest more that 10% but I think that's way too high.

Sorry to hear that you need a new engine, though it's good to hear they're dealing with it quickly and didn't mess you about.

Shitty situation.

Has there been any cases within the RS group where the replacement engine has gone pop?

  Several
People do seem to be getting very excited about the problem but it's a bit over the top really. The car has a problem, it will be fixed under warranty, job done. If it's only 5-10% of them, it really is being blown out of proportion. The only drag will be if some of the cars that are unaffected show signs when they are out of warranty. Will make repaired cars more desirable.

There have been one or two that I've heard of. The thing is, with Ford playing their cards so close to their chest, no one knows a) the exact reasons why they fail or b) how the replacement engines have been 'fixed'.

What I'm getting may be doomed to fail again in the next six months!

From what I understand there could an awful lot more that have failed than currently have been reported as having failed. I believe the coolant loss into the cylinder happens during the engine cool-down with distortion of the head allowing coolant to dribble past the head gasket. This would explain why the majority of failed cars are higher mileage cars i.e. ones that regularly get up to temperature and go through proper heat cycles.

The low mileage garage queens may have failed already...but because they only ever do 5 miles at a time (my oil is still not at ideal temp. after 9 miles) they never get hot enough to experience the distortion during cool-down.

This could be a massive problem in the future...although I'm still hearing that a recall/inspection for all is on the way.

Imagine trusting a Renault main dealer to fit a new engine 😧 Hope the Ford guys are better than the Renault lot.

The dealership I'm using haven't done one before :fearscream::weary:
