RB 182 Cup track car take two

Old build thread here - https://www.cliosport.net/threads/ctcrc-pre-05-race-car-build-claudetheclio.746562/ - ended in disaster, a bent car, financial disaster and a broken marriage!

So, the obvious thing to do was start again, right? Almost... I’ve bought my share the old car with some of the divorce money, meaning I’ve got everything I need to build the same car again but with a few improvements, I’ve got all the spares from before, all the tools and everything for a decent price.

Anyway... the shell of the old one is bent so I’ve bought this -

Absolute bargain, it popped up on eBay on Tuesday night advertised as a non runner so I messaged the guy, struck up a deal and me an my mate Scot drove to Chelmsford on Wednesday night to drag it home, strange it was in Essex as the old car was too!

Stuck it on the truck, got back to his unit at 11pm, unloaded it and set about diagnosing the issue. Put the jump pack on it and realised the fuel pump wasn’t priming, wiggled the wires, still nothing so Scot grabbed his power probe to check for continuity... nothing, switched it to supply power, turned the key and vroom, it fired right up! This obviously pinpointed the problem straight away, after about 5 minutes of diagnosing, all it was was the fuel pump fuse!

The only issue now is that it’s probably too good to strip, but hey ho, until they’re worth £10k I won’t feel guilty.

That’s it for now, it’s gonna take a while because there’s loads to swap over and I’ll need to spend a few quid on roll cage feet, welding, new harnesses and so on but that’s about it, there will be plenty of updates to follow, then loads of use from it next year, I want to try to do a track day at every circuit in the UK over the next couple of years so fingers crossed!

Looking at the receipts, he did, the garage just couldn’t find the issue, I feel a bit bad for the guy to be honest but one man’s loss...

I bought it assuming it needed an engine so having a spare is a definite bonus, the old one had cam belt and water pump a few miles back though so this one will be coming out.

PMS shifter ordered, wanted one before but never got round to it so now is the time.

I’m pretty certain that’s all I’ll need other than some consumable bits like brake fluid so it should be pretty easy from here on.

Will watch this project, last one started out well - shame to hear it didn’t end that way.
But chin up, this one will be a bit better. Already is if a pms shifter is on the way

Good luck with the build.

You planning on racing it?

No, never. Not in a million years.

Racing in itself isn’t that expensive but when it goes wrong it goes really wrong and then it’s a lot of money which you need to spend right away.

Just track days for me!

Good position!

No chance to win anything at this series where you could start but you can loose everything.

Interesting...

I did contemplate racing for a very short period however time was my biggest issue.

I'm sure our paths will cross at a trackday next year.

Looks a great project.
The old thread was a good a good read.

Im also based in Northampton, can you recommend anyone cheap to fit tyres? I'm getting through them at an alarming rate with track days.
