Hi everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself and break the ice of joining a forum! I'm Russ :up:
Currently not in a Clio but am just trying to find the right motor then its all go. I have been toying with the idea of a track car for a while now am have come to the conclusion the Renault Clio is the best weapon of choice for my budget and requirements!
I have joined as a full member so that I can utilise the information within to its full potential that way I hopefully will not fill up the forum with SFQ post (as I am sure you all have seen, heard and replied enough times over the years to every single question out there)
Any way, as soon as I have purchased a motor I will start a build thread to map the journey properly.

Thanks in advance for your patience with me and my questions, we all have to start somewhere :smile:

Welcome aboard. A search will usually find you an answer but don't be afraid to ask. There's plenty of knowledgeable people who will help you out.

Welcome to the forum! Nowhere has as much useless knowledge about these cars, especially the mk2 as CS, enjoy your stay.

Thanks for the welcome :up: Not being funny but rather not give exact location on an open forum mate, you get nervous owning an RS in this day and age, unfortunately even more so living near Birmingham.
No problem at all mate! And lol yeah I get what you're saying, so no offence taken buddy! At work we've been warned about all the car jacking that's going off atm (work for BMW), and it is unfortunately part and parcel of the world we live in, and the area.

RS looks the absolute business matey.
There's one that lives about 30 seconds from me and I can't help but stare at it everytime I drive past. Such mean looking cars!
Would definitely love to own one at one point, but can imagine the upkeep being pretty high!

Upkeep isn't too bad on the RS, fuel is my biggest expense, as I like to drive it every weekend and not keep her garaged all the time like a few but hey, each to their own!

Love the FRS's. I would personally go for this model due to the looks and the combination of the brilliant exhaust note.

Straight out of the box - are there any weak points on them? I'm assuming they will have a healthy appetite for front tyres and of course fuel. But for daily use, are they pretty 'safe'?

Its my favourite out of the three Focus models. Mk1 isnt fast enough 😞 I like the Mk3 from the front and back, it just has too many doors for me:down:

The 2.5ltr 5 pot has one of the best sounding donks out there, put through the Milltek whilst its gulping in air through the Group A K&N it just sounds epic - one main fuel drain right there, end up just blatting around everywhere in 2nd and 3rd :cool: wind it up and hold on for the change (using whole rev range) and she pulls like a run away train (i've achieved booked top end). It has surprised and embarrassed a fair few high end motors. You'd be amazed at how planted she is. Suspension is very firm but its an absolute hoot on the twisty stuff. It just bites and grips going through corners. (Need to experience it to understand fully). As with any car tyre wear, drive it hard and you'll burn through sets (with rotation front to rear) but drive it sensibly and the will last a bit longer.
Rust has started to show its face, as with alot of cars with body kits, water and mud etc. gets trapped and slowly does its thing. Plenum's have been know to explode which is why probably 95% have uprated ones. Re-circulation valve diaphragms break, again uprated kit is out there. Its pretty bullet proof. Just do you homework when buying. Low to average mileage, LUX 2 (all the extras) FSH (a lot, like mine are FFSH). Low owners, a few out there with low miles but 7-10 owners, I can beat the cars never been over 4000rpm by each and every one of them.......not!! Then just good condition as a whole I suppose, as with buying any motor be prepared to walk away if it doesn't feel right etc etc. Plenty of good uns kicking around locked up in garages for no one to see :tongueclosed:

Couple of guys in the OC use them daily, one guy's car is stage 4 + and he reckons it has got 50mpg. I am sceptical but hey he has no reason to lie. I'm lucky to get 21-23mpg but mpg is what the daily DERV is for :cool:

Great response - cheers! Of the ones I’ve seen on the road - the vast majority appear nice and squat - the wheels filling the arches nicely and not going too much on the lowz....

Do owners tend to leave the suspension stock for the most part - or update it as a priority?

The comment about rust surprised me - but your reason as to why makes sense. I was used to the Evo tin being on par with Alcan foil and rust was by far its biggest enemy. I would have thought (hope?!) the Ford metal would be a bit more hardy.

Then again, if it’s not moved on much from my wife’s ex-Puma - I was almost convinced you could hear the rust munching down on those arches!
 
Welcome. The joys of living near Brum, scared to leave my Clio out on the road let alone a FRS. Got to say after having a FST, 50mpg seems a bit high, I’m sure standard mine only seen 32ish for about 2 days and just watched it go down after that.

That it does, whatever a donk is. :smile: Is yours standard bar the intake/exhaust?

Fairly sure the inlet plenum popping was because with early engine firmwares it could backfire through the intake in rare circumstances... bang. Should be sorted on any car with service history by now. PCV system an issue on the RS?
 
People do modify as with all marques. A few like to add spacers (15/20mm) to fill the arches. Mine is as it left the factory, trying to keep it bit more residual value in it.

I have only put on the usual bolt on bits which I feel most would do (and all could easily be removed). I did get it mapped (Viesu) unbelievable difference, some much mid range punch but that was the start of some issues so took it back, then had to replace all the coil packs and plugs, forge recirc, symposer delete and boost solenoid to rectify it. That'll teach me to try and mess with it.

To be honest I have not had a PCV problem (not to say there isn't, I just haven't looked or found one) but I remember seeing something about a mk3 with 100/200mil of oil in a catch can after a short time. Will have to dig on the forum to find out exactly what they found.

Donk=engine - sorry, my e30 days, its how the lump is referred to on the forum and its stuck, lol.
