Misfire/Rough Running

Hi all,

Now I know 1*2's are horrible and lumpy when cold but recently my car has been running worse and worse upon start up when the engine is cold.

Once warmed up, it's much better but you can still feel it holding back quite significantly when going up the rev range.

I've recently swapped my lambdas round, no change and I've had my injectors cleaned by @dann2707 and it has made the idle better and run smoother but it's still there.

I know it can be a lot of things, coilpack, plugs etc but does it sound like one thing more than the others? Obviously don't want to start guessing, will any old code reader work or do I need someone with CLIP to scan it?

Thanks :)

To be fair, it's been like this for a while, just don't want to start replacing stuff for the sake of it.

If it does it under load id go for leads, when its dark, pop the bonnet and see if you can see any arching onto the block from a split in the leads.

Nothing daft like a change of fuel?

Nope, always put the same stuff in.

Will any fault reader be able to do it or does it need CLIP do you know?

Coil pack.

Yeh it's when it's under load. When idling it doesn't sound like it's missing, just quite lumpy, hard to explain really.

May do coil pack and leads and take it from there, although that'd be guessing which I didn't want to do but I guess it can't harm on a 12 year old 117k mile car can it?

  dan's cast offs.
You need to get it plugged in and look at live data and take it from there.

(First time I've said that in a while)

If you want me to pop over, we can swap leads/pack from mine to yours, and see if it makes a difference to the running?

It definitely smelt strongly of petrol when I saw it before! Makes me think lambda or injector

How long have you owned the car?

Replaced either of those before?

About 2 years now, and nope.

Compression test and a plug reading.

Any garage or a specialist?

Yeh that might be a good idea. I'm taking my decat off as soon as I get time so it'll be interesting to see whether it still smells of fuel after that.

Mine runs like a right dogg for the first 2 or 3 minutes. My 182 was the same

As I said, I know that's how they are but mines been getting worse and obviously I have the hesitating under load.

Anyone who's got a decent diagnostic and knows how things should be will be able to find what it is.
