i'm looking at rebuilding my beam over winter and machine some solid bushes up see if that makes any improvement

Sounds good man, let me know how you get on, may come knocking for solid bushings if they prove worth the effort

07-09-2017 Sunstrip Fitting

Popped over to @dann2707 place to fit new sunstrip, not the most exciting addition but looks much better than the awful attempt I made last time!

14-09-2017 Spacers on front Axle

I wanted to get my stud and nut conversion onto the front axle as well having being running it on the rear for months. However the issue was to run the setup I either needed to buy smaller studs or run spacers. Man maths said spacer time!!!

So fitted the studs, slapped on some 15mm spacers and then had to dremel the arches down to get the things to fit as the front track is now wiiiiiiide!

reason I needed to do this was the Speedline Maracanã wheels have centre caps that cover the wheel bolts, and the studs as they were would be too long to get the cap on. And I have to run these wheels as I like the fact the car has its sort of original look from the outside.....ish!lol!!!

anyway, pics, arch with the lip, the fronts are plastic like the mk2 so easy to cut down

DSC_2807.JPG

the tool for the job

DSC_2811.JPG

and all fitted, they are very close and catch on manoeuvring on uneven ground or full lock, but the car feels incredible now, I stiffened the front shocks to 13/19 so can go stiffer but works for road and I can stiffen fully on track.

I will also more than likely remove the front spacers when running track wheels as they are 7J and the slicks are more like 205 equivalent so suspect rubbing with the spacers on may be more of an issue.

anyway (again!) pics!

and had a spin out with @dann2707 to test the setup, seemed decent enough and he grinned a bit :)

Great project mate - not sure how I missed it.

Is this the one that was resprayed in a garage? Remember following a thread on clio16valver forum some years ago.

Nice work, at net few weeks i put shafts form r19 with longer wishbone, and that should give me an extra 8 cm in front, when i use spacer i need maxi front fenders

Yeah, the previous owner, Danny, him and his mate sprayed it in a sort of knock up booth in the lads garden around 7 years ago I'd guess, its not the greatest job on earth and is ageing not brilliantly, but its all one colour and solid now too so I'm happy enough. Not looking for it to be mint as it pained me to watch GTT (the Xerus turbo one) just degrade after spending so much on that ones bodywork.

no idea how much wider than standard this setup now is, but i'm only just getting away with standard arches. which I don't want to change, want to keep the silhouette of the car as standard ish as possible.

7-1-2018 New Wheel
Purchased a sabelt wheel, 330mm instead of 350mm and flat rather than dished.
This means my arms sit better on the wheel from the seating position
Yet to drive the car with it but position definitely feels better.
Pics!

Overlayed, can just about see size difference, although difficult due to wide angle lens on the camera

And dish comparison

And finally, all fitted! Chuffed with it tbh although will have to get some gloves to attempt to keep it in decent nick

Randomly booked Bedford for Monday, cars sat since September after Mallory
It's been started few times but that's about it, plan is stick some new pads on the back and change back to road wheels Sunday morning, tax it and go for a test drive. If alls well, load her up and head down to the travel lodge at Bedford Sunday evening

Wish me luck!

29-01-2018 - Bedford
Went to Bedford for the first one of the year, had a terrible day in all honesty! Blew 97db static and spent all day on part throttle due to setting off the 4 mics trackside. 87db drive by limit is just madness, too quiet!
I'll admit the car has got louder, swear it blew 88db years back when I was last at Bedford so I presume the wadding has blown out the exhaust over the years.
Either way, part throttle all the time on the twisty sections where the mics were, which meant no heat in the slicks which meant crap time all round!
never mind, can't win them all and plenty more trackdays ahead of me!
In desperation tried a coke can muffler upgrade......unwise, lost about 50% of the power then so was worse if anything, bit of a giggle though I guess!

few pics anyway

05-02-2018 - Strip Down
So after Bedford decided it was time to tackle the exhaust again, so fit the 182 manifold and also purchase a quieter system to connect to it
As such plan was to rip the front end of the car apart, remove the brakes and bodged up front brake lines and clean up the inner arches etc.
I also have the willwood 4-pots to fit when it all goes back together again!
Found some small patches of rust, one that's a bit nasty on the inner arch that's going through to the scuttle area, I will treat and sure this up without a full repair for now and then get it properly fixed next time the cars in for bodywork.
Pics!

Inner arches are pretty clean overall for a 25 year old car, the paintwork being done 8 years ago by Danny helped

and the small patch of rust I need to sure up for now

That is a crazy low noise limit. I thought Combe was strict. Although I am sure it was so Merlin Motorsport could sell mufflers at silly mark up on the day.

However it looks like a proper nice Clio and looked after. Do like this a lot. Wish I had the time, space and patience to build a Mk1, I just don’t want to sell my E34!!
