Not quite as bonkers as Project Binky but just as entertaining! Good work bud.

Just got back from 2 weeks away with the family, got a few bits and pieces delivered so I can get going again
IMG_0369.JPG

New slave cylinder compared to slightly shagged one, primed it with some fluid and bolted it up to the box
IMG_0368.JPG

Ludicrously expensive hand fettled Sachs clutch and heavy duty pressure plate, still don't know whether it's going to take the torque.... bloody expensive gamble
IMG_0370.JPG

Wrapped the down pipe in an attempt to help reduce under bonnet temps but not happy with the stainless ties as can't get them to stay right, going to get some wire to hold it in place instead
IMG_0371.JPG

Last job for tonight was boxing up the ECUs to send to Chris at EFI tomorrow to get the immobiliser transfered from the 197 to 225 ecu

My cable ties are fsirly loose ish on my decat wrap but they've stayed on fine. I think it helps if you wet the wrap first and put it on tight then it essentially sets around the exhaust.

Got the ECUs back from Chris within 2 days so have mounted the 225 ecu in the bay.

Polybushed the engine mounts using road series powerflex bushes

IMG_0380.JPG

IMG_0381.JPG

IMG_0382.JPG

Retains original bushes but just fills the voids in them and adds support. Need to do the upper torque mount later this week.

Stuck some Nimus heat shielding on the bulk head
IMG_0383.JPG

The front subframe section was looking worse for wear for have it a coat of hammerite black

And it's in

A bit of interneting will throw up some diagrams of what the wiring changes are that need to be made on the Megane engine loom to connect up to the Clio UPC. 3 plugs need to be changed, the diagram for 1 plug appears to be correct.... so currently in wiring hell tracing connections so I can compare between the Megane and clio engine looms....
IMG_0389.JPG

Good news for anyone else daft enough to do this is I'm making a little spreadsheet and diagrams showing what needs to be changed.

The one online that I found was only for R26 ECU as that's the one everyone says to use.

Interested on having a look at that spreadsheet when you've done it!

Although this one is an r26 ecu.. not sure whats the diff between that and 225

I've got one of the early phase 2 ECUs so not an R26. The ecu pinouts should be the same but the differences appear to be on the 3 engine side connections to the UPC. The ecu is running he correct software and Chris at EFI has transferred the immobiliser code so wiring dependent I'm good to go

Happy to share, be next week before I've finished it due to work and friends visiting over the weekend

Waiting on an engine loom turning up so got on with other bits. The suspension's back together but need a couple of m10x1.25 nyloc nuts to finish it off. Got new anti rotation links, drop links, and toe rod ends, plus cook sport springs and new 200 cup dampers.
IMG_0395.JPG

IMG_0414.JPG

Next up was fitting the front end back together. Opted for the Clio 197 rad, may need a thicker alloy one but see how we go. Got the intercooler in place to see how it fitted

IMG_0408.JPG

  M135i, 197 turbo
Driver's side was okay but extended the top where it runs over the inlet to stop the hard pipes rubbing on the inlet. Changed the straight connector on the passenger side outlet for a 120degree bend to squeeze it between the chassis and the rad
IMG_0415.JPG

So whilst this fitted it now meant the hard pipe to the inlet didn't so cut it and rotated it so it lines up nicely with the plenum.

Added a steel support bar across the front and bolted the intercooler up, then finally settled on where to put the oil cooler and made a support bar for that too. Lights are in, and made a start in connecting up the coolant lines. No idea where I'm putting the header tank as it's original position is where the intercooler pipework is at the front. Need a couple of 19mm connectors and can get it finished. As before it's a mix of Clio and Megane pipework. Reinstalled the scuttle and wipers and it's beginning to look like a car again

Couple more things done tonight before I head off to Portugal for a mate's wedding for the weekend. Got the front bumper on with no dramas, little bit of trimming required to the driver's side foglight to clear the oil cooler and that's it.
IMG_0435.JPG

IMG_0433.JPG

Obligatory holes added to bumper, just put them there for track use when I'll take the number plate off
IMG_0445.JPG

Last job for tonight was getting the exhaust roughly in. As on the 172 turbo using a 2.75" decat downpipe connected to Miltek link pipe which lines up perfectly with the center tunnel. I wanted to add a 2.75" catback but failed to find one off the shelf for the 197 so a 2.5" system is going to have to do until I can get a custom one made. Shouldn't be an issue, same as was on the 172.... Fitted the back boxes and measured up and chopped down the center section and fitted it all up. Needs clamps and exhaust paste and it's done
IMG_0437.JPG

Nicely centered... another reason to get a custom exhaust is I don't want a center silencer.
IMG_0441.JPG

IMG_0442.JPG

Not the best of pics, can just about make out the dual tailpipes
IMG_0443.JPG

  M135i, 197 turbo

Not technically the first start as when I pressed the start button everything went off.... needed to tighten the earth from the battery. Wiring's not finished, still working way through all the wires, done 2 out of the 3 plugs but shouldn't take much longer. Couldn't work out why the doors where locking but the its the wheels spinning off the ground. Anyway, happy

  M135i, 197 turbo
More progress. Got the exhaust finished and diffuser refitted.
IMG_0642.JPG

Finished the wiring off, mounted the fuse boxes, then made a bracket to hold the Clio 172 header tank. Everything seems to work, no warning lights on the dash. Had esp/asr disabled message but just need to slowly turn wheel from lock to lock to reset it, also intermittent low battery warning so need to check the alternator.
IMG_0641.JPG

Need to wrap some of the loom and reroute/shorten the overflow to the header.

  M135i, 197 turbo
Also bled the clutch, everyone seems to have problems with these but I've done this a load of times now and it's never a problem.

Jobs left:
Torque suspension, change rear springs, finish fitting rear carpet, mount lap timer and shift lights.

  M135i, 197 turbo
Suspension torqued, springs changed, DRE shift light fitted in front of cluster using canbus converter to get signal, filled up with super unleaded and went for a test run...

Couple of issues, getting very hot every time you go near the throttle, and stop and low battery warning coming on. Drove back home carefully ie slowly off boost and had a look. I'm using the clio 197 radiator and fan pack on the standard wiring and relays so it should be okay certainly for road use so left the car running to see if the fan kicked in. It didn't, turns out the fan and thermostat were plugged in the wrong way round (same connector at similar place on loom), swapped over and fan comes to life and temps back to normal.

Battery warning bit more of an issue. Measured 13.8v at the battery when running, battery good, belts okay so a bit puzzled. To be honest not certain which alternator is fitted to the engine, it could be off the 172, the 225 or the 197. I had a look at the spare ones in the garage and one was 110A and the other 120A so then decided to take the one off the car. Turns out to be 110A, so swapped it for the 120A complicated by the fact I had to mount it slightly differently as a mounting point was broken. Turned out the exciter wiring is different as well so swapped the plug over from the 197 to the 225 loom and checked the wiring back to the UPC.

When it was back in the garage noticed it sounded like the exhaust was blowing. Poked around and it was blowing like mad from the turbo to downpipe join, I suspect the ebay special downpipe flange face is less than perfectly flat. Re-did the join and used some exhaust paste and its sorted. Decided to then check the other joints and they were all good apart from the lambda bung off the midpipe had fallen out. Luckily had a spare lambda sensor so bolted that up.

Test drive number 2, no battery warning lights and temperature reading normal when giving it boost.

Nearly done.

Finally got around to taking the head off the engine that failed at oulton park in the 172 turbo.

That's cylinder 3,by far the worst. There was also crap in the sump

Just waded through all 8 pages in one sitting. You sir, work hard. Hats off, well done for keeping on track towards your end goal!
Shame you had so many issues though

  M135i, 197 turbo
Just a little damaged then lol...

Any plans for spacing the wheels and the rest of the 'kit' to match the spoiler on the car? (Splitter and skirts) ?

Just ordered some 21mm hubcentric spacers and stud and nut conversion from Pure Motorsport, and I've been looking at the side skirts and splitter but I'll get the mechanical stuff finished off then probably get the body kit bits to finish it off.

Other stuff I've just ordered includes another matching Bimarco seat, a set of DS1.11 pads for the front, and a RS250 turbocharger which was a real pain in the arse to find. Assume stuff will turn up over this week then I can get on with fitting. Also need to change the brake fluid for high temp stuff, then I can get to RS Tuning for a map update and provided the exhaust doesn't hold it back should see 300/300

  M135i, 197 turbo
Some parts turned up
IMG_0889.JPG

Spacers and stud conversion from Nick @pure-motorsport great service as ever
Fitted studs with some thread lock and fitted spacers.
IMG_0890.JPG

Not the best picture but wheels now fill the arches properly, going to be running slightly wider R1Rs so will add another 5 mm of tyre into the arch.
IMG_0893.JPG

Other stuff then turned up - RS250 turbo which I've been after for ages, and a set of R1R's, and the subframe for the passenger seat. Also ordered a 3" turbo back exhaust system from Pure Motorsport for Meglio conversions.

Got the DS1.11 pads fitted, was dreading trying to get the pins out after reading how badly they get stuck but a drive punch and 4lb lump hammer swiftly sorted them. Clean them up, changed the pads and refitted. Now need to bed them in which involves a series of progressively higher speed stops, pain in the arse compared to the RC6 which you can just chuck in but these shouldn't produce the insane levels of pain destroying dust the RC6 do.

Next up was a quick refurb of my spare wheels. I'm going to get both sets powder coated in anthracite when I get time but for now it was a quick respray with some rattle cans to get rid of the peeling paint.

Sanded back

Tyres are being fitted at the minute by a local garage after a mobile fitter ballsed it up :rage:so picking them up on Friday and hopefully will then get the pads bedded in.
Booked on Oulton Park for next Wednesday, just had notice the passenger seat is on its way from Poland so might just make it in time, and I've got a rear cage with harness bar coming from Mark Fish being delivered on Friday to get fitted over the weekend.

Plan is to get the turbo and exhaust fitted after Oulton for mapping at RS Tuning in couple of weeks time.

  M135i, 197 turbo
Seat turned up along with a new harness, could only get 1 as tweeks onlt had the one in stock.

IMG_0932.JPG

Safety Devices cage also arrived Friday. A few more parts to fit with this cage than the one I had for the 172, but doesn't require any welding, just a few holes with spreader plates through the floor and inner wings. Got all the trim refitted around it as well
IMG_0933.JPG

Wheels also fitted with R1R's, they fill the arches nicely now with the spacers.

IMG_0934.JPG

Just brakes to bed in tonight then ready for Oulton.

Looks great! Keep us posted with results from exhaust system fitting and mapping.

Had a good day at oulton. Car behaved itself up until mid afternoon when the track rod ends failed and we could turn the steering wheel through nearly 180 degrees without any movement at the wheels. Up to that point it was quick, overtook loads, brakes are epic and it’s very planted in the corners. Desperately needs a quaife diff and some semi slicks as we were getting wheel spin in 4th

Anyway some pics....

Next on the list after oulton was swap the turbo and exhaust for the rs250 unit and full 3” system ready for mapping, fix the track rod ends and relocate the header tank.

Swapping the turbo and exhaust in situ was a pig of a job and would have been easier pulling the engine. After much swearing got it done then discovered had a pin hole in the oil drain probably caused when trying to wrestle the old down pipe out. Exhaust only has one silencer rather the three in the one removed. Sounds the same at idle but loads better when blipped.

D1A05D2B-2203-428D-98E6-177B4329BCC9.jpeg

Two very similar looking turbos, exhaust side appears to be the same but the compressor is larger. T15 vs T14.

On removing the old turbo was amazed at the lack of damage considering the amount of metal missing from the pistons that must have exited through the turbo

I wanted a better solution to the header tank being mounted off the scuttle on a homemade bracket so it turns out the header tank from a Dacia Sandero fits neatly with a bit of trimming next to the drivers side wing
E1DFC796-B52A-4919-A287-190841B24D1A.jpeg

Also got the peeling wheel retrimmed by Jack at Royal Steering, full black napa leather, red stitching with red band at 12 o’clock

So Friday afternoon I made a return visit to RS Tuning and compared to the previous attempts this was utterly painless.
C095163A-327A-4945-B164-3891B3C8C5BD.jpeg

300bhp and 300lbft. Paul reckoned it would have easily done 320ish but like the previous map this has been left rich at the top end to add a degree of safety due to track use.

New turbo doesn’t run out of steam higher up the revs either, just pulls hard to the red line

  M135i, 197 turbo
looks great this! where did you find the new turbo? Is it a straight swap?

Found a RS250 breaking on ebay so got the turbo pack (turbo, actuator and recirc) off it, took ages to find one as it seems they go as soon as they become available. And yes it's a straight swap. Could run a chunk more power and torque but 300lbft is about the safe limit of the 225 bottom end so not worth pushing it more. To be honest at the moment it's like fighting a bear getting it down the road when the boost comes in. Having to learn to progressively apply the throttle in lower gears rather than just boot it. Would 100% benefit from a quaiffe diff and some R888Rs
