Lancer Evolution Appreciation Thread

Hope so mate, power delivery wasn't exactly non savage before so with the quicker spool and extra torque it's going to be interesting to say the least!

Going to try and pick it up tomorrow if I can. (I'll make it happen)

Cracking numbers!

Having mine mapped next week, no different mods. Just junking the pops and bangs, and hopefully having some better over run experience.

Didn't have much time to play as needed to get back.
All I can say is what a difference. The old turbo (we're reckoning it's an early 6 turbo) was simply tired. This thing pulls. The only way I can describe it currently is that sensation where you feel like you have to hold on for dear life. Well, that wasn't there before - it is now lol. The spool is savage, Bob was really impressed with it. I'm chuffed I went the extra mile with the hybrid.

EDIT: I'll post up the graph when i get home

You get to see little glimpses of what the VI is all about in that vid @adamlstr

When you leave it in 4th going into Paddock Hill Bend, you can sense that you feel you should be entering it slower - that you should be in 3rd, yet the car simply handles it. I know full well that when I had mine, I was the one who always backed off with uncertainty - not the car.

It was well above my driving ability, though I would have loved to have the funds and time to commit to extracting more from it. The VI is a sublime piece of engineering and the more faith you put into it, the more it seemed to respond. Obviously, you're pushing that limit of spinning out/going off to an ever finer line - but that was always the best feature of the Evo. It took a humdrum taxi and transformed it into practical (albeit expensive!) four-wheeled fun.

Epic car.

@Darren S :up:

Being only my second time at Brands, and my first time out on track in the Evo; I was both a long way from the cars limits and my own. I didn't ride the curbs, nor break traction once. Most of the morning I was in 3rd through paddock, then in the afternoon my confidence (and faith) in the car was growing; and by the end of the day I was firmly in 4th. Then using the torque to pull me up to Druids.

I'm no stranger to an Evo on track though, which is good. But, it's been a good 10 years.

What's amazing is just how calm I look throughout, change gear at the apex of paddock? Sure.

Seriously considering selling the 8. Money is tight at the moment and I've hardly driven it at all since getting the work done 😧. Timed it all wrong, really. Should have had it done just as Spring started and enjoyed it through Summer

Tuck it away until spring, then decide?

I was just out at Donington on Thursday; The Evo was an utter hooligan, it loved it. Greasy surface, 888's, AWD, four wheel drifts a plenty.

lol, nice. It is tucked away, mate. But the problem is we need the money at the moment and I'm finding it harder and harder to justify to myself, let alone the other half that I need it.

You take any vids at Donny?

Then only you can make the call mate, you'll probably get a better price in early Spring, rather than selling on the run up to Winter.

Yeah I was filming for most of the day, not for my first massive catch though. In my mind it was reminiscent of Mark Higgins / WRX / IOM TT. 😂

It was just after turning in for Schwantz (?) curve, proper back and forth tank slapper. I think the AYC woke up from its coma for the first time in 17 years, trying to spit me off the opposite direction.

I don't know if these work..

I haven't gone through all my footage yet.

Don’t know if any of you lot are after one but a friend might be selling his IX FQ320
Had recent transfer box rebuild, yellowspeed coilovers, revolution rally with federal 595 RSR

Only selling due to him getting into trackdays with us and can’t really justify chucking it round a track for what it owes him.

Lads, it was a riot. These things are made for it. [emoji56]

It got dry-ish towards the end of the day, but still squirming out of the slow corner exits.

Well, I've written out the advert. MOT due in November so I'm taking it out this weekend to get that sorted. Probably the hardest thing I've ever tried to commit to lol!

The problem is I hardly get a chance to get it out, so when I do - it's like that new car feeling all over again...but with 400bhp on tap and smiles per gallon.

Get it sold if things are tight. It's only a car at the end of the day. Houses, kids etc etc are all more important. It's just an excuse to buy a better toy later!

Probably won't happen for awhile which is why I'm hesitant. But you're right, sometimes you just have to be sensible.

Mrs Adam hasn't even set foot in mine. 😂
lol, she went in it once or twice, but she's got a crap stomach so she used to moan when I gave it any as if it was an F22 Raptor. You know the sensation most people get when they're on a banana boat, not a car lol. I think she got fucked off also as I refuse to use it during winter...

To be fair, I can kind of understand it as I wish I could give a few less s***s about it, too. Looking after things is gay.

EDIT: My 8 year old on the other hand loves it, especially when I pick him up from school lol

I hear that. I've had a couple of cars in the past that needed a lot of looking after and I ended up selling them very quickly. That was also part of the reason why I bought a higher mileage, well-used 172 Cup. I'm not interested in polishing and keeping it in the dry the whole time, I just want to use the thing and enjoy it.

Amen. Although, the car doesn't need a whole lot of looking after, if you look at it objectively. As long as it's serviced at regular intervals. The harsh winter roads, and neglect are the biggest issues with Evos, and obviously fuel lol.

Just last month it had all new fluids, hybrid evo 9 turbo, brand new intercooler and custom exhaust. Brand new AYC, dampers and bushing in late 2015, and only just covered 6k since then. That's not needing a lot of looking after, that's just anal. It's had a lot of love poured into it. I knew at the time I shouldn't have done it but I did anyway.
I might end up having a breakdown and just take it over the downs and churn up some turf lol

I go to quite a few Ford shows and when I see the concourse area filled with Cosworths and MK1/2 Escorts, I feel a massive urge to steal the keys to one, do a load of donuts in a muddy field and then give it back. I think some of them would actually cry if their car got mud on it 😂

LOL, yeah no doubt. The Lancer scene is the same, mate. I need to have a serious think. If I end up keeping it, I will definitely be using it a lot more next year.

It's a tough one. I can see why people want to preserve them and, with them being sensitive to rust, I can see the caution. But, at the same time, the thing that makes the car so special is the way it drives, so it's a shame not to enjoy that element of it to the maximum.

Like I said, if the money would come in handy for the family, I'd get shot. You could always buy a cheaper toy that you don't have to worry so much about. I still have as much fun in the 172 as I do in any of my other cars and the best bit is that I don't care about it. I can't remember the last time it got cleaned!

Exactly. I didn't buy a 30k garage queen Evo. I bought a 10k track toy Evo.

That being said, I will avoid salt and gritters. 😊
