Acceptable work? Decat fitting

Left my car with the local garage today (not used them before) to fit decat pipe.
Over the phone they said they'd clamp it and it'd be fine etc.. picked it up this evening and got this (pics below). Doesn't look great to me but does it look acceptable? It now sticks out an extra 2" and they didn't bother putting it back in the hanger properly it seems. Thoughts?

That's not acceptable, no.

But to be fair, the decat may have been badly fitting. It running an olive joint? Looks to be. Get powerflex rear bushes so they can't actually raise the back boxes.

The tail pipes no. But 182 decats do clamp onto the centre section as it uses an olive joint unless you buy a sleeved decat.

Although I'd personally never use that fire putty crap as it sets hard as nails and cracks to bits. I always use high temp black silicone

First of all , the decat does sweet FA , other than increase the exhaust noise . Then you're gonna have the hassle of swapping it back come MOT time . As said above , that putty will crack and drop off in next to no time . I'll put money on that clamp working loose too . As for the tail pipes sticking that far out , that looks a mess and not acceptable . Plus your exhaust hanger looks cream crackered , it's split and collapsed .
You took it to a garage not an exhaust place I take it ?

Thanks for the replies.

It was hanging absolutely fine before and both of the bushes are in decent condition. The end they've clamped didn't have an olive joint so it's sleeved in and clamped.

Looks like I might be getting them to put it back to standard and going elsewhere or hope a oe cat turns up for sale that goes straight in.

Garage shut at half 5 and I couldn't collect til after work at 8 so didn't get a chance to look unfortunately. I'll be on the phone tomorrow morning

It's sleeved you say ? So can the exhaust be adjusted , as in pushed further back so it's not sticking out as much ? Like I said , I wouldn't bother with the decat in the first place , they don't give any extra performance , just noise . I took mine off and sold it cos I couldn't be arsed farting about with it come MOT time. See if the garage will rectify it , they should do really , but I'd be tempted to take it to a proper exhaust place.

Looks to be that the decat isn't fully sat with the sleeved portion inside the centre section. So its consequently pushing the centre section up causing the back box to sit downwards. What makes the decat?

Yes I'm not sure what they've chopped and shoved where TBH. This is a pic I took before just to see the length difference.

Looks like a Milltek decat to me. That photo makes it look like the wrong decat for the exhaust.

One of the later btm one's and it's a milltek decat. I did ask the garage to look to see if it'd work first before fitting hoping that if it obviously wouldn't fit they'd be professional and tell me no.

you probley needed the the scorpion decat as it olive jointed but that wont fit now as they've cut the joint

i think the milltek decat will need a couple cm's cut off it now so the exhaust can be pushed back so the tail pipes sit further in

Iirc yozzasport decat was the only one with the slight kink in, the rest are straight, which isn't correct.

Yeh that looks like a much better fitting! I told them on the phone to not chop anything as I wanted it undo-able. Hopefully they haven't cut the centre section although looks like they may have

I'm going to leave it with the garage again today and tell them to put it back to how it was before with my oe cat. It still works but it's got rusty and slightly broken flanges. I'll call you later if I'm stuck, cheers mate!

You'll have to have for cat sleeved now for it to fit again if they've removed your olive.

UPDATE - Took it back this morning and explained I wasn't happy at all, he said he'd have a look on the ramps but "that's the problem with these aftermarket parts". Anyway, got to work and he called me saying the fitting looks perfect and the tips are sat how they were when I brought it in (luckily we're sad and all have pictures of our exhausts). He invited me to go and show him what I mean, so I'll be back there in my lunch break to point it all out.

the guys obviously a cockjockey coming out with that!! to be honest i'd just say cut your losses and go somewhere else.

if you're fitting a customer supplied part and it 'looks like it won't fit' it's common sense to phone and speak to them before you do anything let alone go cutting/modifying things to make it fit.

£120 to fit a decat...and badly at that, wow! I'd be demanding my money back and the cost to have it rectified at another garage. It took me 20 minutes to fit my decat and that was on axel stands, robbing bstards!

You still get a lot of protection. May even be able to claim distance selling as the work was done and paid for without you viewing, if needs be.

That is dreadful workmanship, absolutely appalling.
And to charge £120 to fit it is nothing short of a total rip off.

I'd be looking for a new 'mechanic' to work on your car in future. I wouldn't let him top up my screenwash the 2 bob pirate.

No not agreed price. Possibly my fault again but I (stupidly) like to trust people.

Got in the pit with the guy working their and took some pics. He's hung it properly now so it's straight, just sticks out. He said they could cut it down etc etc but I wouldn't trust them anymore. Pics now.

Think I'll cut my losses and just get a better fitting cat on asap

No way I would of paid for that afterwards and 120 for 2 hours flol is it a main dealer :fearscream::fearscream:!

Some crappy sealant stuff they use that looks like they threw it on from 50 yards away. That mani to cat fitting kit was new in feb, surely they don't go that quick? Unless you mean something else.

I paid over the phone before I saw it, won't be doing that again!

So what's the best way of me getting any/some of this money back? Considering everyone can see how bad it is. I showed him the before pic (below) and he still ummed and ahhhed.

I was mate, I'm sure there's bits missing and I take it that there's a penny washer fitted to the end on the bolt because the manifold flange is rusting away.
