Successful turbo conversions

I don't think there are any other companies offering a full clio supercharger kit apart from k-tec. As above you would have to get lucky and get a 2nd hand kit off someone which usually go for about £2.5k. Or put a kit together yourself which would still cost over 3k

I bought a full kit inc' gen90 ecu with a damaged charger a few months ago for £800 not knowing whether the charger could be repaired and usuable. Luckily, after buying a new housing and pulley from rotrex, i've bolted it all on and had it mapped, its running sweet. It was abit of a gamble because I could have ended up having to buy a brand new rotrex!

Fitting was straight forward enough, did it all on my driveway, plugged the ecu in and off it went!

It drives ace now, it drives just like an n/a but with more power throughout the whole rev range

Where did you get your boost hard pipes from or were they still salvageable from the damaged kit ?

They were all salvagable mate. Mines the k-tec kit but i'm not sure if they sell the hard pipes seperatly:/

  Clio 220 Trophy 1051
having done the whole engine conversion thing myself, and discovered first hand what problems can and probably will arise, if I wanted a turbo charged clio I would just buy a new trophy, faultless reliability with a warranty, it will be almost as quick in a straight line, and around the corners they are incredible. Plus its a new car with all of the benefits in equipment, safety etc etc that brings with it.

But that's just me.

Great thread chaps.
One burning question I have to ask-
Any 0-60 times??
Alternatively-
What sort of cars have you embarrassed/ dusted on road or track?
Bhp included in answers if poss.
Cheers

I can keep up with my mates F-type S into triple figures. It's 380bhp but weighs just shy of 1600kg!
Also pulled on my friends standard 265bhp S3.
With a head start I can hold off my friends A45 up into triple figures, but past 110 he leaves me standing (that thing is stupidly quick) No idea on 0-60 times.
All scenarios above have been rolling starts. I'm 230bhp btw.

Wow. Based on that the conversion is well worth doing. Got to love a wolf in sheeps clothing.

More than worth it. I'm not saying that my car is quicker than both my friends as that would be a lie (The A45 is in another league in a straight) but in the real world you can keep up quite easily, even more so on a B road.
Bet you have a hoot doing it an all.

how I see it is why have 500hp in a clio when the chassis can't handle it? 230 will do everything you want if you want a world beater buy a mini cooper s lol

Yeh on a long straight rolling it was mental did the clock in it that was scary lol but it was pointless for me hence selling needed diff and a better map as the boost set up was so old school all or nothing style
😂 Quality. Real evidence that chasing numbers is not the best way to go.

I'd imagine 0-60 unless you have a diff is pissing in the wind? 30 onwards would be a true test
Not really, can hard launch a low boost easily, mine just leaves a lovely stink of expensive clutch from doing them.

Not as noisy and raw sounding as bodies, bloody annoying when they backfire in residential areas and the turbo noises scare local dogs, but turbod Clios are a lot of fun

Everybody loves turbo noises right...?
No diff? Sticky tyres?

There's loads of ways to get a high powered front wheel drive car to handle decent power.

I use a a boost vs TPS map so half throttle makes half boost and makes the car so easy to drive, you can hold a steady throttle in bends and you don't get that 50p cornering like poor set ups. I'm also running a gripper diff in a ND0 box. So all in it's pretty tractable.

Do I do full 440bhp launches? Nope as we know that's just stupid, can I do a 5 second launch? Easy.

Is it fast enough to comfortably out pace most things on the road? Yes it is.

It's not the fastest thing round track, but it's not caged, on mega stiff coilovers or running slicks. It's just a fast road car.

I think the biggest stigma with a turbo'd clio is people's lack of knowledge regarding fixing them when they go wrong or generally having any understanding about the conversions or the mechanical strains involved. This leads them to become disheartened when they are at the mercy of who ever carried out the conversion. But this isn't just clio related there's plenty of guys with tuned meganes/evos/impress etc... are in the same boat.

Anyone who has been on here a while will know the best conversions on here that people have kept are ones they've done themselves. Most but not all people who have paid for a conversion normally get sick quick and move on to something more reliable.

Just my take on it. I've had the Trophy 12yrs this September and it's been turbo'd since 2009, I'll never sell it!

You're trophy sounds awesome, not surprised you won't sell it!
Great input also, I'm like many here who would love to add boost to the 182 so reading that adds confidence.

Interesting reading a lot of the responses on here as quite a few ring very true. Had my cup 9 years and it's been turbo'd about 3 of those. Yes it's had its issues but the thing is just plain ridiculous fun. Hilarious power but still useable. Just the right amount for the chassis (235bhp). It's my weekend toy and is an event each and everytime I take it out. Would I ever sell it? No. The simple reason being that I can't think of anything that handles as well, goes as quickly and would put a bigger grin on my face for the same outlay. I just can't stop spending money on the little b*****d!!

In summary: really transforms an already amazing little car.

Agree with the above. Although if you are even half decent with spanners it is considerably cheaper to do it yourself and use the EFI module, you can turbo a clio for under £2000 and have the same end result as the ED kit

Wet road and wheel spin on un scrubbed semi slicks, have to change to 3rd gear before 60 as well due to gearing on smaller clio wheels
