So, I'm pretttttty much fucked for the time being.

I thought maybe the driveshafts were installed incorrectly so tried swapping them. Absolutely no chance.

The engine won't move over at all due to it being such a tight fit as it is.

There doesn't seem to be enough spline for me to chop the shaft down on that side. Plus, the passenger may be out too much as it is. So ideally it's a custom driveshaft set.

I'm going to give up for a bit as I can't justify £360 on some custom shafts. I've spent farrrrrrr too much on the car as it is.

f**king sucks after getting this far.
Don't give up now mate. You've come too far!

Hope you get it sorted buddy, have you contacted other people that have used the meg engine and box to see if theyve had this problem, or what shafts they use?

Can you not fit the outer and inner cv joints to the car without the shafts, and jack it up, then rest it down on its wheels on say four ramps, then you can measure the exact length youll need, you might get away with machining say 5 to 7 mm of each end

I'm helping young Dan out as much as I can. His shafts were made by the same bloke as mine and mine were too long on the drivers side as well but I got lucky as I was able to chop a bit off (due to extra long splined section) as a temporary fix. Then they snapped after mapping. My new shafts are from Berrisfords and aren't cheap but a quality item.

I spent £780 quid at Dave Mac Propshafts for a set of custom Motorsport waisted driveshafts.

Apparently they will flex up to 90 degrees before they snap and they help take some of the shock loading off the drive train. After the agro I had at lower power settings with the JC5 gearbox I figured it was a sensible upgrade compared to gearbox replacement's.

So far so good, will see how they fair when I up the boost a bit more.

I'm wondering if you could get a different cv joint on there, the difference between the 182 and the ph1 shaft could help, the ph1 outer cv joint has no shoulder which makes it shorter, it's what sorted mine! Probably won't be enough but just a thought

There's always a way.
Good suggestion on the CVs, worth a look for sure if you can get your hands on one to measure up.
What's stopping the engine from moving across, chassis rail or mount design?
A little bit more work and hopefully not much more money, and as soon as you hit the road properly you'll forget all about this teething problem.

Thanks all. I think I just needed a time out from it for a bit. Im determined to get it sorted now. Been speaking to others and their engines are roughly in the same place as mine. Always so grateful for the help from everyone especially @Matt555 and @incy-spider

Just found this pic on my phone which makes me want to get back there again asap

Through all the frustration don't forget how far you've come with this Dannnnn. Just stumbled across this photo on my phone, think it was the first time we met over 2 years ago. Such a different car now!

^This!

Couldn't agree more! You've worked so hard Dan, and you will get there soon!

It will all be worth it especially knowing it's all you're own graft.

Chin up mate. [emoji106]

I had some drive shaft binding on mine after one of the custom shafts came back longer than expected (although not as bad as yours). My solution was to make some control arm ball joints that were longer than factory - as a bonus I got more track, roll centre correction and don't need bolts to get the camber I want!

That's awesome ^

Cheers for all the positive replies. I think I *may* have sorted it but didn't get chance to put the car back together so can't tell yet but I've removed more of the chassis rail now and moved the engine across. There is now a lot of play in both sides which is what I like to see.

I'll take it for a blast tomorrow and see how it is!

If you back out or talk about quitting again, I will not cuddle you at CSF. I will hold @Christ Almighty hand instead with fine finesse, and I don't want to do the latter as that bloke is weird.

That's not going to happen. For one Dann ain't going to give up and second Tom doesn't go out the house! There will only be one boosted arctic blue at csf, and it's called Boris.

How far did you manage to move things across in the end, did you get anywhere near the 15mm you were hoping for?

When's it going back

I need to wait on the injectors. They're just at the suppliers now being tested.

Then I'll ring Chris and see what we can do!

Around 12mm or so I think. I had to hack away at the chassis abit but it's all good!

So long as you've left enough meat/reinforced required areas then you'll be fine. Amazing how you can get so far then one final issue breaks the camel's back, before a fresh look and relatively easy solution can bring back the motivation and excitement
