#TheBlackTurd - Clio 1.2 Dynamique (My First Car!)

Been a while since I updated this thread because nothing much has happened. Car went for MOT today - here's what it failed on (it is a Turd after all)
  • Headlights too cloudy to produce a clear beam (not sure if he's having me on here or not).
  • It's a real thing, and such an easy job to rectify. Buy some wet and dry, 1500-2000, then get some cutting compound on them.
  • Washers for windscreen are blocked (probs just need a clean haven't used in ages - don't even know if theres washer fluid in there ).
  • Why wouldn't you check for fluid before taking it for test? I tend to check over everything simple beforehand, it saves so much time.
  • Windscreen wipers not clearing windscreen well enough.
  • Did he specify how he was checking this? Were they squeaking on the glass or something?
  • Rear seat belt won't go into buckle (I suspect some glass has got in from when someone broke in)
  • Vacuum on the buckle if you think it's glass, but c'mon now, so easy to check prior to MOT!
  • One of the seat belts (cant remember which) doesn't come in and out properly.
  • Might need replacing? Hard to really know without being there. Could be it's loose causing it to lock off as at the wrong angle.
  • Ball joints are worn (something like that) - not sure if he's on about lower ball joint or whole thing that connects to the hub.
  • Very simple job that you can do yourself and cost you very little. If it's a shitbox you might not even want to use genuine parts, it's upto you.
  • Airbag light is on - it comes on and off at different points when driving so i reckon its dodgey wiring (it is French after all) - he said he's gonna look into it for me.
  • Wiring under the seats most likely.
Shithouse anyways, asking for £275 to sort it all - too much if you ask me. Main things are the ball joints - other bits I can (probably) sort myself.

£275?! Jesus Christ, has he been sniffing glue?
Probably.

Regarding ball joints, not sure if he's on about the "lower ball joint" or the thing above which connects to hub (is that even a ball joint? You can tell I'm very mechanically clueless)
Stole this pic from another thread - it shows the bits i'm talking about

Didn't manage to check anything cos the c**t wouldn't start and we was 1hr late taking it there in the first place.
He didn't say how he was checking it - I assume he means its very smeared or something when it wipes the windscreen. - They're not expensive anyway ill just get some new ones.
If it's glass in there (which I'm sure it is) i'll be able to get it out no problem. (Don't have access to vacuum where its parked - i'm moving soon)
Not a clue about the other seat belt, need to check it myself.
Finally, I'll give the wires a wiggle - probably just that.

Agreed to leave car with him till Monday as I don't need it back asap. Will give him a phone call anyways and clarify everything.

On my 1.2 I got a cheap kit off ebay with everything in. Similar to this -
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RENAULT-CLIO-MK2-FRONT-2-WISHBONE-ARMS-ANTI-ROLL-BAR-LINKS-OUTER-TRACK-ROD-ENDS-/280114090606?fits=Model:Clio|Cars+Type:1.2&hash=item413819d26e:m:mrcZP0VlmwlBED1JCOXo51g
You can even buy just the balljoints for about a tenner. It's only a pinch bolt and 2 nuts.
Cheers, Im gonna keep looking into it. Only issue for me is the tools and gear needed, all I have is my dad's old toolbox which is a mess (Took me half an hour to take the battery out today and i spent 90% of the time trying to find the right tools i needed).
I just want to buy a jack, some stands and a nice tool kit and get myself started proper.

Literally all you need is a Jack, stand, few sockets to change it, not sure what size they are though.

I even got new lemforder wishbones with new ball joints for less than £45 a side!

For the price it would cost to get a mechanic to fix your issues, you can get a toolbox with all the tools, a trolley jack, axle stands and the parts. With money to spare!

Also wanted to try and do a French flag on the grille but dont want to get a sport grille.

Those screws will crumble with a drill put on them, then your clear to change them mate.
Just the screw head? What about the rest of it thats left in still, not an issue?

Looks good mate, apart from that grill. ;)

In true cs fashion im going to ignore that [emoji23]

Also not too fussed about the front plate, looks ok.

Few changes:
BG spoiler on thanks to @Louis'
Did this because it just looks better than the matte black.
20170429_154245.jpg

Got some Heko wind deflectors and fitted them. Bit of a pain in the arse to sort out fitting with clips rubbing etc but sorted it in the end.
20170429_154328.jpg

And finally took off the mud flaps as suggested by @Louis' . Its something I never really noticed but cleans the car up a bit.

Attempted to take off my rear wiper but the arm is impossibly stuck to the motor so I'm gonna leave that for a later date. Got loads of ideas but not much moolah lol.
Thats all for now

Happy to help mate.

In regards to the rear wiper. The plastic should just lift up to show the arm. You can then just snap this off and then pull it all through from the inside. (Don't forget to undo the nut under the trim though or It won't go anywhere).

Thanks and not sure mate. First on the list is 40mm lowering springs, then I'll decide what I want to do after that. If I do change the wheels then only option really is 172 wheels as they look standard and insurance (hopefully) wont know lol [emoji6] spacers will be required as well, better start saving some money [emoji23]

Did you unbolt the motor from behind the boot trim? I'll do it for you next time if you want mate. Just shove that bung in the glovebox or something

Yeah did but then bolted it back on to try and take the arm off the shaft its attatched to. Wasn't sure about breaking it because I didnt want to end up not being able to take the rest of it all off, if you know what i mean.

No progress to report but just ticked over 90k miles (and driven 1500 miles now since passing) with no major/costly issues. Not as unreliable as people make them out to be these cars... or I just got lucky. Got some plans in my head but never the cash to do them, needs a service though as I don't know when it had one last.
