  GT 86
:mad:As title says had this on my 200 this morning when reversing off the drive. power steering stopped working and elctronic stability light on.
RAC came and plugged it in and got an abs fault with no description fault code 51584d.

Car now gone to my local garage (renault specialist) any ideas at all while waiting for them to call me back.

Proberbly speed signal loss (due to the abs fault) as it needs this to work out assistance level.

No idea what that code is about though, crap equipment. Anything from your specialist yet?

No mate not yet to be fair I had it taken their on a mates low loader and as much as Im eager to have it fixed he had other jobs to finish first ( I think sometimes we can forget this when we go to traders), he's going to look at it first thing in the morning for me.

Having looked round the internet Im hoping it isnt the eps thats packed in as its not a cheap fix.:(

It's pretty rare for the EPS itself to properly die and normally it's a data issue prohibiting it from working. Who's got it if you don't mind me asking and do they have CLIP?

Sounds more promising. No mate dont mind at all a local garage called Renotech in Llandudno junction, Ive not used him before but he comes recommended to me so I will see how he gets on. Yes he does have clip. I will post up when I get an answer back from him.

I've had a couple of cars in that have been there before and that's not trying to knock him. From what I hear the guy that runs it is an ex-RTE and he's got CLIP so likely to be able to give a no BS answer.

I hope so, he's the nearest person to me really under the circumstances, my mate took time off of work to transport it for me, the RAC man said it was ok to drive, I reckon even the hulk would have struggled steering it, I wasnt driving it anywhere. It was hard enough turning it round to get it off my drive to get it on the flatbed.

Update as promised, well after all the diagnostic and other testing done it would appear as the though the EPS has in fact gone, dead, kaput. Mmmm new part price for this from Renault I believe is in the region of £900 .

Anyway as the car is only 3 1/2 years old and basically six months out of warranty with only 27,000 miles. I contacted Renault Uk customer relations and explained fully the issue. The car is now in my local Renault main dealer for them to do their own diagnostic checks etc to confirm my independent one. No charge I am assured.

The customer service manager I spoke with (very nice man) was not happy that such a part had gone in such a short time and such low mileage. If this is confirmed and the new part is required (basically whole new steering column) then Renault will pay for a majority of the cost as a good will gesture.

However always the sceptic, I will wait to see what the dealership comes up with and then what Renault come up with in respect of a good will gesture.

They did tell me they had not encountered this problem on such a new car before although there has been an issue wih the scenic eps.

Ah well no point stressing further about it until they get back to me. Never had any dealings with Renault Uk before so I dont really know what to expect.

what was the outcome of this?

I have a clio currently in for diagnostics following STOP message, ESP warning light on and 'Steering Failure' display with no power steering..
