172 heads have to big of exhaust ports. When I'm doing head work port people I always tell them to get the 182 head and get that ported.

Bigger isnt always better when it comes to these thing.

Not worth it. Get the head done if you want power. Ok it's not a bolt on easy job for the everyday diyer

It's part of the casting. Don't want to weld it up as its close the the seats and could crack them.

Ford RS2000 16v i4 head today, this one to maxi spec.

Lots needs to take out, I have a customer that has one of my heads in his Mk2 escort, ST170 engine making 230bhp on standard inlet manifold. Yep done one, there is room for improvement. You just get many people tuning these engines to that level whee head work is needed.
