5.0 V10 VW Touraeg engine

  53 Clio's & counting
We had one in which needed a few things doing, mainly the sump was leaking and the tandem pump was too.

To sort these out, due to the setup, the engine needs to be removed.

It's a fairly big job, it is pretty much crammed in, and it comes down complete with subframe, air suspension, driveshafts and brakes, gearbox and transfere box.

So while it was out, I thought id grab a few pictures, if anyone is interested

Compared to this, which is a 1.2 3 cylinder unit out of a Polo bluemotion - bit of a size difference lol

I am dreading the day I have to pull our engine out.

What work is getting done?

Sump re-sealed, plus anything we found on the way - tandem pump gasket was leaking, so we sorted that, plus a few other small bits, P/S leak sorted.

Good god, it looks like something out of the back of a yacht!

And that W12 is awesome too!

Oh, the trolley it is on is a VW tool especially for removing the engines out of Touraeg's, Phaeton's and Audi's Q models.

It is about 3.5k's worth, and requires 3 phase electric to run it, nice piece of kit, beeps like a reversing lorry when moving it up and down - id hate to even attempt to do it without it! lol

Well, the stage is set, when the next V6 winds up back-first in a wall, it's destined for a VAG V10 / W12 rebuild.

VW slapped a W12 in a Golf, so something as totally balanced and sorted as a Vee? Be reeeeet.

Oh.....oh yeah

f**k me that is huge! , I don't think £1400 is too bad for all that work , Parents were charged over 7k for an engine once :(

It's not an engine change, it was removal for small repaires mate, the cost to buy a new V10 (which comes complete with heads but nothing bolted on) is close to 13k

I know i worded it a bit dodgy, I meant £1400 wasn't to bad for all that work and repairs.

All they did to that was change the tyre pressures and load it up with sandbags to bring the total weight to near 6 tonnes, then stuck it in low and just pulled away lol.

I'm still amazed by its size, mental!

If someone showed me that picture, and then said it would only be £1400 I'd be pretty ok about it.

Some renault dealers are knocking on that to do a cambelt service on a clio LOL

1400 for the work done certainly sounds like a reasonable deal given the tools needed to do the job and the sheer size of the thing, but on the other hand what a s**t design car to need the engine taking out completely just to sort a sump gasket leak, that should be a trivial job really, takes an hour to do that job on a lot of cars, lol
