Heater Blower Resistor Pack

  clio 172
After having a problem with my heater- the blower not working i have traced the fault back to the resistor pack (apparently quite common)

I am having trouble sourcing the correct part tho as it is for a 172 with a/c and climate control- one with the big aluminium heat sink and 5 pin connector. I dont really wanna go through renault n pay £123 :(

Does any1 know where i can purchase one, or have one to sell me? ;)

cheers

Try a breakers/specialist mate like CitRen in Norwich, they have loads of written off Cliosports and they deliver.

There's also a place on ebay which offers repair but they want £70 for a job that takes 30mins and and a part which costs pence.

with a brand new one you get a years parts and labour warranty, if you spend £50+ or whatever on a second hand one, and that fails, your gonna end up paying out again for another leaving you with a similar bill

You'll get a guarntee of sorts from any decent breakers, or you could fix it yourself.

Ended up buying a new 1 from renault for £126 n it still dosent work :(
Id shorted pins 1&5 and the fan comes on full power so made what i thought was a pretty safe assumption that this was the problem.
Now im Pi55ed, not sure if i will even get a refund on the part.
Anyone got any ideas please help ???

Right an update on my little rant before which may help others.
Traced the fault back to a loose connection from the control unit itself, meaning the fan speeds were not controlled and not working.
I was wrong in making the assumption that shorting pins 1&5 on the resistor pack bringing on the fans would highlight the fact that the resistor pack was at fault- i jumped on the band wagon a bit quick.
The old resistor pack( which i had ago at replacing the transistor & assumed didnt work) does infact work.

Now the only problem is i have a £126 brand new resistor pack which im not sure renault will refund me for. Going to have a go though hopefully they will show me some compassion if not i may be selling it on here.................

I am having this problem but my fan is going full blast all the time even when i just turn the key i have started a new thread. I had the resistor pack out today but i am not convinced that is the problem. I am now going around with the fan on full blast all the time luckily i can control the temprature still which makes me think it is not the resistor.

where was this loose connection i have been putting in speakers ect could this have made it lose how did you get to the back of the control unit. cheers

  Looking for 182
I've actually got 3 at the moment. One brand new one (£120 :(), one broken one, and one from ClioSpares, which I bought for £60, didn't work, sent it back asking for a refund, and then they send me another one

If I test it and it works I'll just sell it.

These were my symptoms and the heater resistor pack was definitely the problem.

the resistor pack has nothing to do with the temperature, this is controlled by a mixter motor

footwell drivers side, theres a bunch of connectors that go, motors which controll the air mixture and flap positions

in most cases, when your heater blows only on 4th position its not a resistors on pack or regulator itself-its temperatire fuseon resistor pack, buy new (you may buy more nominal temperature that you have) and solder it)
be careful with soldering-use wet napkin to solder.

I started a thread last week without sucsess,my blower speed varies without touching the button,so is it a new transistor I need to solder in??? And where could I buy one from???

Not heard the resistor pack to cause that!
Does it happen using the climate control or in all cases?

Havn't used the climate to see but it happens when the blower's on,if it's put onto maximum it remains maybe on 3/4 for while then the fan reaches maximum but sometimes it reahces maximum speed instantly and sometimes it reduces in speed on it's own.
It's showing the same sort symtoms as my 205 GTI did when the fan resistor started to go on that.

It only takes 10mins to swap over the resistor pack to check if thats the problem. Its expensive though so you dont want to buy one unless you need to, any chance you can borrow one to check?

Thanks for this tip, just had the same problem with mine, wiggled the connectors under the footwell and its all working again :) Saved me a lot of time and money, thanks again.

I can only get my blower to work on number4. Where is this wire located and do I have to repair it or can I just buy new ?
Thanks for any help.
