Airbag + SERV Light after fitting steering wheel...

  Iceberg 172
Hi guys,

Fitted my Momo Team wheel to my new 172 tonight, fitted both the resistors correctly etc but the SERV light and the airbag light have both come one.

Is this just a case of plugging it into the diagnostics and turning them off???

Or will they both just come straight back on?

I'm wondering if we maybe re connected the battery and turned the ignition on (to check the stalks worked ok) before the resistors were on.

Any help would be appreciated!

You might have the wrong Ohm resistors, your suppose to fit them then eletrical tape to keep them in place :)

Could be a multitude of things you have done wrong mate, but those lights will need a Renault System to turn off I believe, even our Snapon Ethos won't do it.

as above you may have the wrong ones ??? thats what its sounds like anyway

iv got some spare ones here, if you want i can chuck some in the post to you ? ( i know they are the correct ones as ther fine in my car ?)

send me a pm if you want a couple ?

On a side note to this, who can sort out these lights near or in Birmingham or Nottingham?

I have the resistors, would like someone to fit them, and turn the lights off providing they dont go off automatically, as ive heard they stay on.

What sort of prices would i be looking at and would it fail the MOT with the lights on?

(Mine came on due to fitting the Recaros)

They go off after a few minutes in a ph2.

Use 3.3 ohm if you have those.

OP did you use 2 resistors??? As MOMO etc only send you one (well they did on mine) but I have loads of them at work. In fact I ditched the one MOMO/OMP sent as it was MAHOOOSIVE! Used normal size resistors.

Airbag light wont fail a MOT. because they cant test airbags, and also older car's dont come with airbags..

I passed mot last year with airbag lights on as i have mk1 172 seats in my car.

Hi Adam,

Thank you very much for your offer but I'm fairly certain they're the right ones as I've also tried the ones that were from my Cup (I had no lights on my dash in that).

My brother is going to look at the resistors again at the weekend (when he does my coilovers) but I was thinking I could take it to my mate who has the diagnostics (if his aren't the right ones my brother used to work for renault and i know his old boss so he could do it).

I may take up your offer though adam, I take it it'll only cost you a stamp but I'll sort you out for your troubles! I'll pm you my address (if i don't use them i'll send them back to you if that's ok??!)

I got it from k tec and they sent me out an extra one so yeah, used 2!

So they're 3.3ohm - that's helpful to know as i can get 2 more from my mate tomorrow... Adam - don't panic about sending those ones to me!!!! Sorry but thatnks for the offer!!!!

i had same problem mate, i got some resistors off dangerous dave on here but still yet to fit them:(

It's because you switched the car on before fitting the resistors at a guess, the airbag missing fault will now be stored as Tom said above.

Mine went off eventually..I even fitted my wheel without resistors first then took the wheel off a few days later (when I had spare couple of mins at lunchtime) and fitted some in and they went away.

:S

Hmmm, maybe he'll be ok then. I thought it would store the fault, but guess it's the same as the under-seat-wiring issue.

  Iceberg 172
Well hopefully it's as simple as that and in time they'll go off - I did think that and i took it for about a 30 minute drive (loving the new wheel!!!! Transformed the driving position and the steering feels much nicer now!!!) although the stalks are a bit of a stretch for the pinky's!!!!!

Are they definitely 3.3ohms?

The ones k tec sent me are 1.8. The nearest we've got is 2.7 so I'll have to shoot into maplins to get some 3.3's. What if I used 4.5ohms?

these are exactly what i got and they work perfect in a ph1 ?

3.9 Ohm 0.25w Carbon Resistors 1/4w Resistor 3R9

Not true. My airbag light comes on, quick play with the wires and it goes off. 100% not stored.

as already said, check the resistors. check there fitted properly, doubled up to make contact with the sides of the connectors etc.

it defo 100% will not be stored, and will go off when the resistors do the job.

Try the 2.7 ones if not Replace with 3r3 or 3r9 and all will be sorted.

In theory anything from about 2-6 should work but it depends what tolerance the 1.8 ones are I.e 10% on 1.8 means it could be as low as 1.6 ohms.

Everyone who has had issues has replaced with 3.3 or 3.9 and things have been fine. Try your 2.7 ones first though as I have just popped outside and tried it on my seat one and it worked fine

i think im using the 3.3ohm ones. just grabbed a selection from maplin when i first did mine. cut up and used the spares as packer peices to make sure they were secure in the connectors.

Should be like this mate

Yeah that's cool. I've just gone to maplins to get some 3.3 ohm resistors so I'll fit them later and clear the fault codes again and see what happens. If that doesn't work I'll use some 4/5 ohm ones.

Thanks for all your help guys.

My Nissan Primastar had to have resistors fitted in the rear when they did the conversion from minibus to hackney spec taxi. It used to have rear airbags from the factory but they remove them because they fit different rear seats and belts.
I've just had to have the resistors replaced as one of them was turning the airbag fault light on all the time.
Wondering whether to get them to fit a resistor to the clio when I get round to replacing the wheel.

Wrong. The circuit will clear the fault light once the right resistance is seen. No reset code readers or what not needed. So you either have the wrong resistors, or a bad connection.

:)

Any resistor between 2 and 6 ohms will work.

What a nightmare!

I have no idea how but my mate has the full on diagnostic equipment and he's managed to turn off the 2 front airbag circuits thus meaning no lights!!! Whoop whoop!

There's no resistors being used!!! Don't ask me how as I have no idea!!

Thank you to everyone who helped, I'm now over the moon with it!

You can with either Clip (Renaults stuff) or some decent 3rd party equipment.

Surely with the circuits turned off though, the pretensioners would be inoperative too?

nah, it's just the 2 drivers airbag circuit that has been turned off... there was loads of different circuits for the pretensioners / passenger airbag etc.
