Baby monitors and other baby stuff

we sold our maxi cosi through local faceache. Sold easy peasy.

Ebay is bad enough, not sure I have the tolerance for Faceache!

What are those next2me cribs like? Someone wants to buy us one so interested to hear your opinion

It's been very very good to us, Mrs loved it as she didn't have to get up to feed in the night, and she's very close to us. We had two big daughters, and the weight limit is high. But they were both too big for it at 5 months. It has a higher weight limit than a moses basket etc.

Both girls were comfortable, but we used a sleepyhead in conjunction with it.

+1 for a white noise app, absolute godsend for getting them to sleep and then to stay asleep!

Also, for nappies and wipes, try using the 'Bum Deal' app - it's a live price comparison app and has saved us loads with our two.

We found having two moses baskets was useful (one upstairs, one downstairs) rather than trying to carry a sleeping baby up/down stairs in one.

Also gro-bags/similar are great for once they get a bit too big and fidgety for swaddling.

We tried the white noise app, and it worked, so we bought one of these:

It saves having a wifi/cellular device next to them for extended periods of time.

Our girls are highly alert, and only fall asleep with white noise and black out.

This is all good info for me as I don't really have a cute what we need, or more to the point whats worth investing in without wasting money on stuff we don't really need.

Standard procedure is to buy EVERYTHING, and then use 40-50% of it. If your Mrs wants another, she’ll hoard it all. If she doesn’t want another, she’ll probably still hoard it all...

Make sure you have plenty of loft space!

We’ve got so much shite up there. If we have another it’ll save us a fortune.

Currently looking at mid sleeper beds for him. Expensive for a shitty bit of mdf but a great storage solution in a small bedroom.

fb for sale section, best thing ever for a bed you will only have for a few years.

I have 3 kids.

The ones we’ve been looking at say they are good from 6-16. Ours is 3 and didn’t want to get out of it in the bed shop.

I’ll keep an eye on those though.

Dad tip for OP: Baby vests and baby grows can be removed two ways - the normal way of unbuttoning the poppers between the legs then pulling the vest up and over the head..... or (and this blew my mind when I first realised haha) they can be unfolded at the shoulders and removed downwards over the torso and legs.

This means when your baby does an explosive shart that escapes the nappy (always fun) you don't have to risk taking off the dirty clothing off by removing it over their head and face, making things worse.

You're welcome.

Yup, I always pull them downwards, so much easier!

We’ve had this 6 years and it’s been excellent. Bought a Motorola with a video screen for our 2nd born and it lasted a year before it went it the bin. The BT unit saved the day.

The screen is a bit sketchy as you might be able to see in the picture but apart from that it’s fully functional.

Cover postage and it’s yours.

Can also vouch for that!^ I’ve had it 5 years and it gets used every day. I don’t use the monitor aspect now but my 16 month old likes the music and stars.

Also old thread but if anyone still references it...the shnuggle baby bath is the best invention I only wish I’d have had it when I had my first.

Well I wasn’t expecting when I made this thread that I’d be back in here so soon, we had our first scan today and there will be roughly 17 months between baby 1 and baby 2. Any tips from anyone!?

Fasten your seatbelts!

There’s a near 2-year age gap between my two. It is f**king horrific at the moment (my youngest is 6 months old).

Who’s the main culprit or does one set off the other? Our first has slept through the night right from about 10 weeks old so we’re probably a bit naiave.

My second one is on the way... being delivered in June. My other boy's coming up to 2 1/2

Most people tell me it's much harder! As I expected, but some people have told me certain things are easier too, such as them entertaining themselves. My boy is very needy, so it'll be good to have someone who'e always up for playing with him (eventually)

The youngest one is the only culprit! My elder child sleeps straight through, puts himself to bed after his story, etc - he’s so easy to deal with.

Just to update - I’m still on 2.5 hours sleep. Absolutely hanging now!

The oldest will be just under a year and a half when he’s born. The wife has only been back at work a few weeks ?

So baby is here. 4 week old tomorrow.

Now I know instinct is still in total control here and I get it, I’m just wondering if anyone has any tips just to get baby down to sleep a bit easier. Just for a short while to actually maybe eat or shower. We have a sleepy head - like a tight pillow that you fit baby in snugly, the last 24 hours the exact moment she’s laid on something or not on our chest/in arms, she is f**king screaming.

I was just thinking maybe have a hot water bottle just to take the chill off whatever we’re putting her on/in.

I’ve had a month off work and it’s been going ok, the last day or so has been torrid and extremely tough. Missus had a c section so had a bit longer off to make sure she’s as good as possibly can be before I go back to work.

Like I say, it’s instinct, she wants to be with us cos we’re warm and safe but we need half hour to do stuff. I’m thinking more of when im back at work too as we’re sort of tag teaming atm.

Doubt you'll be able to properly replicate the experience to the babys satisfaction.
It's not just the heat, it's the breathing, movement of the chest, heartbeat and the smell as well.

A good feed usually helps knock them out, gives you the best chance of putting them in a cot and them actually going to sleep.

boob milk and swaddle.

Boob milk didn’t work out. I’ve coped a bit better today, weather that’s because I expected it a bit more today.

Had to go for a walk this evening eit the pram, ended up being a 90 minute walk but I quite enjoyed it if I’m honest. It gave my partner time to herself and it helped clear my mind. Got back at 9pm managed to move her from the pram to bed and she stayed a sleep. Winner.

Milk coma and swaddle tbh at such an early age. Baby will be wanting to be fed quite often too so try and use the milk coma effect while you can ?

What I will say babies change so quickly with their habits and routines and what works now prob won’t work in a mths time and vice versa.

But it will defo get easier. It just doesn’t really feel like it does

It’s definitely harder than what I thought but in a different way. I thought I’d struggle physically/task wise. Doing the nappies, night feeds, tiredness - I’ve been nowhere near as tired as I was in the hospital, I was trembling with tiredness by the end of the 3 days.

What I’m finding hardest is the screaming crying when it happens, normal crying that you’d say was baby letting you know I’m hungry/need changing etc I can deal with, almost block it out so to speak. But the screaming cry that they do till they can’t breathe f**k me, I lose my s**t very easily.

I would quite happily change 20 shitty nappies everyday if she didn’t cry. This might sound stupid but I think I’m going to bring some ear defenders in the house just to quieten the cry so I can keep calm a lot longer while round her. Im only in week 4 so no doubt there is going to be a lot more of that crying to come!

I know dummys are fround upon by some butthey can have a good calming effect. We used s dummy purely tohelp baby sleep. After about 7 mths we stopped using them (that was a difficult night!! ?)

You may find it could help your baby calm down when they get into that state

Is she suffering from Reflux, or perhaps Colic? My first had Colic, second had Reflux - we used the specialist formulas for both (Aptamil) and that helped. We changed their bottles to MAM as well, which let air escape from the base, reducing the risk of wind.

A little trick for the breathless screaming - blow gently on her face, it’ll stop that straight away ? (seriously!)

We’ve had MAM bottles from the start as her sister has 3 young kids and swore by them. We are on the third day I think with infacol, not sure how it’s going yet but maybe it might help, maybe not. I wouldn’t say we’ve had the 3 hours of screaming cry a day but we thought we’d use it and let it kick in just in case it was colic.

I am definitely going to try the blowing on the face. Thanks for the tip will let you know how it works!!
