Evening all. Well thought I would get a little tread going. I used to own the car about 3.5years ago and regretted selling it as soon as it went, anyway it was replaced with a megane 225 which I enjoyed but was a money pit and just didn’t make me smile like the 182 did, that lasted just over 2 years and I sold it on and replaced with a Mk5 gti dsg. That was a great car and was more of a family car, after owning the golf a few months I ended up getting a brand new transit custom company vehicle so the golf ended up just sitting in the garage and coming out on sunny weekends, but it just wasn’t a car to get out and enjoy a Sunday morning blast so the decision was made I would sell up and look for another Clio, this also allowed me to get some money in the savings . So the search began. I had been looking on and off for about a month when one thursday while at work I was having a quick look on eBay to see If anything new had come up when I came across my old rb for sale at a garage only 45minutes away so I jumped in the van shot across and did the deal. This was back in October last year and the car has been sat ever since. It unfortunately wasn’t quite as good as it was when I sold it but still pretty presentable. So I decide I would sort my garage out get it in there up on axle stands and start with tidying up the underneath first. And that’s pretty much as far as I have got. There is bits of paintwork that I wanted to get done but think that will have to wait as funds are running low but at least it will be mint underneath and running right by the time it’s back on the ground.

Anyway a few pics, first few are from when I owned it first time round.....

So over the last few days I have made a start on the underside, striped everything of and got busy with the wire wheel and removed all the surface rust before undersealing/stonechipping it all, well the rear end anyway!! And this is how it stands at the end of today....

Also got a few new parts to go on when I start to build it back up. Got some new grams springs, rear pms axle spacers, front spacers, new top mounts, new centre exhaust hanger, coolant tank, power steering pump, service parts and also got one of the battery/ induction covers on order.

These little gems also arrived this week.....

Bloody love that. :)

- in the first pic, what was the suspension set up?.
- what made you go for the grams springs this time around?. And when will you be fitting them?

Wow that looked lovely when you first had it!! To get the trophy for cleanest car, says it all about the condition!

Must be both heart breaking to get it back not as you sold it. but also great to have it back and build it up again to what it was. New wheel choice and the list of parts to get fitted is a great start lol! Top work

Springs were eibach first time round mate, I went for grams because I wanted to retain the cup shocks as a pose to coilovers and after much head scratching and asking on the forums which way to go cooksports or grams the majority vote seemed to say grams were great so just thought I would try, plus they were also in stock. Fitting will prob be in the next few weeks but I have other things to do before it’s back down on the ground so a review and picks of how it sits will prob be a good 3 to 4 weeks

Wow that has to be destiny for it to turn up for sale just up the road after all that time. Awesome work on the grubby bits too, I wish I had a garage to roll around in under my car [emoji23]. I hope to see you at some Yorkshire meets in summer then eh[emoji106]

cracking mate, love to look after my RB like that, but she's a daily whore and has been since she rolled off the line in 2004!

Well it’s slow progress, been really busy last few weeks but made abit more progress today, managed to get the rear hub spacers on hubs back on and all built up, piston part of the caliper and the discs and also the new springs and shocks. Also the exhaust heat shield on. So slowly getting there.

Just want to get it as clean and tidy as I can and can afford to mate and enjoy it. It’s not my daily so will only be used when it’s decent weather. Not looking at doing anything major, it has 197 cams ktec style induction and a aas exhaust and decat so not really looking at anything else peformance wise. It needs bits of paint but that will have to wait until next winter I think. Recaros at some point and a pms shifter and I will be pretty happy. Then just polish and enjoy.

Managed to get abit more done, although it’s a slow process, been away the last 4 weekends and very busy at work has ment little or no time spare for the Clio. Got the rear brakes all back together after getting them back from the blasters and painting them up. Also got the front shocks built back up and one of the front arches done so got the strut back in place. Ran out of paint then so decided this morning to refurb the headlights as the passenger side was really bad, really pleased with the results. Few pics........

Don’t look 2 hard at the engine bay that needs tackling yet. Got new coolant bottle air filter and a Marc Bruce battery/filter cover to go on and going to repaint the inlet etc in a anthracite colour and should look a lot smarter.

The front looks ace! I really like the dark crash bar tied in with it all.
The lights are pristine, you use a DA on them? Can't wait to get some photos with this ;)

Christ thats clean.

From memory some lad on here had an inferno that you could see your face on the underside of, this would almost give that a showing up lol.

Not much of a update but the weather has been hindering progress again so just to keep bits moving I needed to do something with the fog light surrounds, (one of the many little bits that wants tidying up!!) initial plan was to just flat of and repaint satin black but then I was given some wrap so thought I would give it ago. Can’t be that hard I thought!!!!!!!!! 2.5 hrs later and got ONE done!

Admit it, you chose the springs because of the colour didn't you! It's all looking spot on mate but I think we had summer last Thursday so you'll have to wait until next year to take it out now:tearsofjoy:

Looks great for a wrap though mate! Loads better than how they were glossy. Did you use a hairdryer to soften it when applying?
