After many months of searching and having finally sold the 197, I finally have the perfect car for the summer. Shame it took so many months and I cant take full advantage of the lack of roof.

Ive always liked the look of an E46 cab.
Very nice indeed.
Please don't turn into one of those fcuking pellets that drive around with the roof down because the suns out in December, even though its only 4 deg...lol

Not a huge fan of these but appreciate they are a great car.

Good colour for these too.

Enjoy.

TBH, having just had a soft top for the first time in November, its quite nice even when it's chilly, modern cars dont really suffer buffeting and the heater and heated seats mean its not uncomfortable

I like them and cabs are great in summer. The Scuttle shake on these is something else though or certainly was on a mates.

Sadly I am one of those pellets. First comment on FB was from a mate saying its the law to have the roof down at all times except when its raining! I agreed!
My last long term vert was a xr3i, in white in the early 00's, whilst I was working for dominos. Delivering pizza in a cabrio, with roof down as long as its not raining. I was sooo cool.

Lovely looking car but I just couldn't be seen in anything convertible, as no one wants to see my ugly kite being mashed by the elements!
I love a vert, they always add a smile to my face. But there are very few that don't make a bloke look gay or at least questioning his sexuality. The only options to outweigh the campness was to [clarkson] add power[/], realistically leaving Audi or BM, and I wanted RWD so choice was made.

Just get a hardtop, job done. My MX-5's hardtop stays on pretty much all year round lol.
Hard top was on list, but I really want to have choice of roof down any time of year, and dont have anywhere to store it safely at the moment anyway.

I <3 convertibles.

Not raining? Roof down.
Drizzling or a lot of spray off the road but not raining? Roof down.
Snowing? Roof down.
Raining enough to come in the car even at speed? Ok, roof up (till it eases off).

I don't particularly care if people think I look like a t**t - I'm the one enjoying the drive while they potter along in their soul-destroying white-goods econo-boxes that remove them from the driving experience and the environment they're passing through...

Whats wrong with that? You know that convertibles have heaters too?

Hacking around in the winter in Listerine. No roof, heaters at full, seat heating on, windbreak up. Essentially you're sitting in a bath of warmth, with infinite headroom and 99% 360-degree visibility.

This. Coupe for me..

Can imagine a carbon airbox with the roof down would sound immense though!

The other issue is that in most convertibles, rear visibility is terrible, so they're horrible to actually live with with the roof up
This is very true.
Hard tops help....but aren't a full answer. I remember the old SL's had "rear windows" in their softtops.

But, hang on, this is an Emfwee, so surely the rear-view is pointless anyway ;)

Its got a really good view and its a glass rear. I can see as much out this as I can in the 197. It also has girl friendly reversing sensors.

In this weather its wipers on the side windows I need :D :D

Meh, parking is easier with the roof folded and thus the whole journey should be completed with the roof folded.

Driving at night with the roof down is superb IMO. Only driven mx5s and a Saab convertible. I'd heard of scuttle shake before but never experienced it until the Saab. It was like a jelly with 210bhp.

Not knocking your opinion, but other than it feeling a bit cooler on a hot day I can't tell when I've got the roof down... I'm still staring through the same windscreen!

Everyone has an opinion, of course :tonguewink: Those who think that convertible drivers are only doing it for the attention might be mistakenly applying their own beliefs and approach to life to others, and judging, when they should just be accepting of the fact that they don't know what the person in question is thinking or their motives for their actions

I am hopeful that if we can move past blanket judgement of LGBT and 'ethnic minority' people (for example), we as a society can eventually move past the tendency to judge others against our own standards, instead just accepting people for who they are and taking the time to understand them personally, or letting others just get on with whatever they're doing without the need to justify or defend it (assuming it's not negatively impacting other people or other things).

So you don't get the extra layer of smells and noise? The joy of the smell of cut grass or fresh rain? The way that you can feel the air temperature and humidity/'dampness' level change as you drive through different environments / different times of day / different altitudes? The feeling that you can just reach out and touch the passing flora?

It's like driving 'unfiltered'

Yeah I get what you're saying, but I'd say that after 5mins of driving I've stopped noticing those things!

Kinda feel sorry for folk who are so unsure of their sexuality and so insecure of their masculinity that they can't drive a car cos the roof folds down. Who gives an actual f**k, I mean really? Last time I checked what car you drive doesn't determine your sexuality and much more importantly your sexuality doesn't actually matter a flying f**k.

I bought a Z3, no f***s given.

Flol this has gone way off topic. I actually like the original car, the E46 cab, my exception was wondering why people drive around with the roof down when its very cold.It just doesn't make sense to me but hey ho The end
Now weve got Muslim minorities and LBGT people being brought into the fold along with peoples sexuality.
FPMSL, only on CS I guess.

I wanted all the running gear for a project so bought it, did 1500 miles in it in two weeks and then took it to bits.

That said, I'd definitely have another, sitting over the back axle, LSD and a nice straight 6 petrol made it hard not to be a hooligan ALL the time.

It looks like an absolute peach, Dave, great work!

Since I've had the MX-5 I have to say the experience of driving topless is incredible, any time of day/night/year - really hard to describe but as has been mentioned, and as you'll remember from your Escort days, cut grass, the moon, the visibility, the feeling of being 'out there', but the best of all is the sound, and that's from a near-30 year old 115bhp 1.6. It's ridiculously slow and the want for a Boxster is almost irrepressible, but for now it'll have to do.

You shouldn't suffer from a lack of power, and tunnelling the M3 will be immense with the top down. Good on you mate.

The car went in to BMW Hook today for an Airbag recall (both front air bags replaced). Great service as would be expected from a top end marque, and they gave it a free health check and a free valet (latter of which I declined). Health check came back very well for a 13year old car, and they even got sent a weblink with a video inspection of the basics.

Now I havent been to dealer for some years, (Volvo 7 years ago and Lexus 9 years ago), so not sure how many manufacturers are doing this but they certainly all should be.
