I'm picking up a gearbox for Boris on Tuesday. Hopefully it won't be a shitter with it being so cheap.

I've got two weeks off work as from Tuesday so hopefully I will swap it within that time but there's absolutely no rush as the car won't be back on the road this year as A - it's now sorned, B - It's now on a laid up policy C it's out of mot and D - I can't be bothered with it. It's become a bit of a big paper weight that gets in the way of me going out of the house via the garage.

I'm also looking at 172 Cups as a third car for the time being to tide me over but it would most likely be a money pit. I'm alllllsssooo going to be moving out of this house soon as I want a bigger one and a big driveway.

I bought a gearbox for mine mate, it cost £150 for the box opening and checking, a new selector seal and new high tensile diff bolts fitted and supplied and 12 months warranty, only in leeds too.

I will do in a few months or so. I very rarely come on here anymore due to a horrible lack of time so it's not really worth me spending £12 on sadly.
😧 i spent £12 the other day at aldi, there was nothing in my bag, at least you get a membership card.

Engine and box is ready to come out pretty much. Just got to undo the exhaust bolt and dogbone and it can pretty much pull out I reckon. What a faff

So... Bad news and a bit if a hurdle :/

A huge hurdle!

Ive had a look at the driveshafts and I can confirm that the o/s is still too long and the bearing is bottoming out in the driveshaft cup when on full lock.

I bet you anything this has caused the premature failure of the box. These boxes are strong as hell so this shouldn't have happened. And I seem to remember the person who I bought these shafts from failed a gearbox too before breaking the car for parts so I assume that's caused the same failure. Awesome..

I can't chop the shaft down as I would need the spline extending so the bearing can slide down it more.

Massively annoyed by this as I was hoping to have it sorted for csf.

Take them to work Dan, if you have a machinist shop tell them to cut them in two, take X out of the middle and sleeve them,
if done on a lathe you won't even need them balancing.

Realised when removing the engine and box that the box end is far too low. Catching on the subframe as you can see here

I've now sorted that by the use of some spacers on the gearbox mount.

Engine is out though, didn't take too long at all really.

Painted the new gearbox in silver as i'd run out of black hammerite brush on.

Think i've found my restriction in the exhaust too. This is the link pipe that goes from the 3" decat to the rest of the system - check out the weld. Also just noticed now when uploading pics that the flange ID are different sizes too so that will be restricting it.

Compare that against the 3" decat pictured here

My mate is working on my full 3" system though which is taking shape and looking good.

Also tried priming my slave cylinder ready to refit but that doesn't seem to want to prime at all when pushing the plunger so maybe the seal has flipped. May have to buy a new one. Laaaaaaaaaame.

I'll be looking into getting an o/s driveshaft made from berrisford up too so then I can at least get the car moveable. £192 though!

Then get the gearbox that's out fitted with a Quaife and a box refurb from the lovely @NorthloopCup at a later date.

Ph1 short shifter is easy enough to do. Ph2 requires a bit of the shifter machining off.
Thanks mate. Just checked and I have both!
I've already done the phase 1 one, drilled and tapped ready for the 10mm bolt stud which is in the post.

What needs machining on the phase 2 one? I can almost imagine it but can you confirm with a pic please James??

These might show it a little better Dan. There's a section on the left that's machined away to stop the cable from fouling in its new position.

A hole is drilled and then threaded with a ball stud fitted in place.

Thanks for that Rob! That's absolutely perfect. Looks like I can make another one out of the other I have! How much do they sell for usually?

I paid £238 Inc VAT for mine bud.

Apparently the unit from Renault is about £160 (don't hold me on that though)

Ahh is that the whole assembly? I meant just the short shifty bit haha! Cheers mate.

CSF is so close now! :D I haven't forgotten I owe you a beer or three for the blow off valve you kindly gave me :)

About £50 2nd hand.

That's the sort of price I was expecting yeah. Will be selling these for £40 I reckon.

Well, hi guys. Been almost a month since my last update..ish.

Had a big change of plans after going to csf and riding in Alex whites meg powered cup. I've decided to ditch the pedal box despite all the hard work into getting it set up. I'm going back to power brakes but using cup lines set up, DCI 100 pedal box(only clio mk2 that uses hydraulic clutch) which is proving very f**king difficult to find.

CSF was also epic, great weather and felt weird not being on track.

But won the fastest time on the karting of the day with a lap time of around 39 seconds or so. Couldn't believe it. Also won 3 raffle prizes which was great although I did buy £80 worth of raffle tickets... Oops. For a great cause though, and especially with what happened at grenfell tower as discussed with @Sunglasses_Ron

No word of a lie I pulled someone over the other day whilst walking back from a meal with my girlfriend to buy his car from him just for the pedal box hahahaha. We were walking and I said... I might buy that guys car from him laughingly, then turned around and went, no I'm actually going to go get his car. Was in the middle of the street looking under his pedal box to ensure it was the hydraulic version, he was happy to let me route around. Turned out he wanted too much for the shitter so I just walked off.

Anyway, I should be picking one up tomor all being well.

Ive got the brake lines and cup compensator from @Kelv which I did a round trip with the gf of 360 miles on Sunday. All plumbed in now.

Got a Peugeot 406 v6 master cylinder on the way along with some brake line splitters and some unions (£35 worth fml) so should be fairly sorted.

Then I've also adjusted the gearbox mount to raise the engine up so I "should" be able to move the engine over a little more to stop this driveshaft issue out all being well, if that doesn't sort it I'll order a new driveshaft that actually fits.

Met up with @Coops Turbo tonight to help him fit his sun strip, went for a beer or two, came home and fitted the gearbox to the engine and got so much more motivation to get on the road again. Really can't wait and having some time out has been great. Saved up a load of money and got my love for Boris back again.

Also with me removing the pedal box I had a gaping hole in the carbon fibre vent where I removed the bias adjuster so luckily i picked up a race tech (same brand as my oil and pressure gauge) boost gauge and fitted it there. Will show some pics when I can.

Sorry for a picture less update but just letting you know I am alive and very much in the spirt to get bastarding Boris back on the road.

So the pedal box I was picking up from the v6 failed me, the guy who worked at the breakers told me that despite me asking 3 times if the part was available and it was... turns out it was broken. What a dick.

I called back Renparts and asked them for the one they said they had from a dci100, they ring me 10 mins later to tell me that it was broken too.

Started pulling my hair out a bit but luckily I had found something that looked like it would fit... it's from a kangoo but all the other kangoos seemed to be cable clutch apart from this MPV one I found. There was no other information on the internet to suggest it would fit but I found it for £20 delivered so was worth a punt either way. 2 days later it arrived..

Trial fitted it and it does :D Ignore the accelerator pedal, that will be being replaced with the ph1 172 one when I find out how it bolts to the assembly.

So with the new peugeot 406 v6 master cylinder fitted I wanted to see how close the de-cat is going to be to it. Absolutely no chance it would fit.

Left it that evening to go for some day drinking with the gf. Ended up at a nice burger place, had mac and cheese as a side which was epic.

Anyway, the next day, today I started with the custom brake lines to the master cylinder. Due to the ports being on the one side now, I had to create some new brake lines to suit. Using 2 m10 splitters to brake them up into 4 brake lines.

Also removed the engine to do this, did it in under 15 mins as nothing was connected really.

I originally tried it like this but quickly discovered it wasn't that neat and very hard to get to.

I went for a different approach, I mounted the splitter to the side of the car.

Nice and neat and out of the way, really quite happy with my progress today as i've been feeling a bit hungover but got it all sorted pretty much.

I'm now going to get some motorbike reservoir bottles for the clutch and two ports to the master cylinder and hide them away under the scuttle panel like before. Then fingers crossed i'll have my servo assisted brakes again which will make me happy.

To get around the downpipe issue i'm going to get my mate who's making the exhaust to avoid the master cylinder when shaping the downpipe. I guess i'm mainly waiting on that to be sorted before being able to drive it.

I need a few more things:
New oil pressure/temp gauge as my temp doesn't work £80
Clutch pipe £30
Nimbus heat shield £20?
O/S gearbox seal £20
Gearbox oil £25
3 x reservoir bottles £15 and pipework £not a lot.

Then i'm thinking of going down the route of a return rail for the fuel line:
3.5 regulator £55
Pipe £20
ph1 Return sender £25
NPT fitting for fuel rail £7
Tap £5
