Another DCi 172 replica.....

  182 Cup & DCi 172
Got this for Doggy transport and as a general runaround.

Paid peanuts and upto now isn't a monkey haha

It was a Px clearance so got it dirt cheap and new it had some issues with the handbrake, noise when cornering and engine movement.

Ended up changing the drivers driveshaft as cv had gone, new handbrake cable for the drivers side and replaced the dogbone mount and all was good.

I have broken a few clios over the years so made sense to use parts kicking around to improve the DCi.

Full black 172 kit went on with Heko wind deflectors, painted bumpstrips and my spare 182 Cup headlights:

Picked up some xenons:

Spacers haven't arrived to fit my 16" alloys so decided to spruce up the paint.

Decontaminated then 3 stage machine polish before snowfoaming, handwashing and sealing:

Hopefully my 2 sets of 25mm spacers turn up soon so can get shot of the tragic 14" alloys then can see what lowering springs I need.

Good effort! Like a good transformation. Makes you realise how much wider the 1*2's are over standard though when you see the original wheels without spacers in there!

These wheels even sat inside the original arches haha
Couldn't even get the wheels to turn when offered the 16" alloys i have up.

Apparently spacers are arriving today fingers crossed so can get these alloys gone

25mm spacers sorted now all round and Twingo RS alloys on as had them in the garage.

Liking it as it's different.

Lowering springs I am now trying to sort and got my logbook through for it so private plate should go on tomorrow

Not a fan of the 25mm long bolt spacers great build otherwise. Quite fancy a dci aswell.

Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

I wasn't 100% initially but get good reviews and haven't heard any horror stories. Not like it will ever get abuse like my 182 Cup so hoping it's all good.

Nice to see a Clio on some different wheels!

Cheers! Exactly my reason for using them

Got some sport Eibach Sportlines off here so hopefully should have them on this week sometime and do a service and all sorted then.
Cup spoiler is something I also want and looking into intercooler options as this is the uncooled 65 version

Looks really nice, especially that beading! Im also jelous of your ability to do a non-sport to 172 body swap so easily, the problem with my car is unless i get the panels resprayed, i need to wait for someone to break a Trophy thanks to the colour :/

Out of interest, is the halogen to xenon headlight conversion a straight swap as long as you get the balast? I was always interested in having a go at doing that (mostly because of the way they look to be honest!) but untillnow i had assumed that a different wiring harness would be needed

The wiring is identical across them all so literally plug and play, ballasts should come with the headlights and are on the underside.

You will probably have to swap your adjusters across but that takes seconds so isn't an issue.

I have fitted xenons to the black rep and also my 182 Cup as look better and are actually really good at night

Another couple of days and another boat load of work complete.

Clio has had a service - new oil, oil filter, air filter & fuel filter. Also fitted Bosch Aero wiper blades.
Then cleaned the engine bay as was showing its 145k mileage.

DSC_6392_zpsupmqsqvu.jpg

Then fitted some 172/182 Eibach Sportline springs I picked up off here and then set about the front brakes - they have been stripped cleaned and overhauled so all move nice and free and were finished in silver with new Brembo discs & pads.

Just need to sort some replacement dampers at some point. Thinking Sachs the same as I ran on the Volvo.

KNF Autotints should be sorting the rear 3 windows with a 40% tint as well sometime over the next few weeks

So the finished article......

They are standard Twingo RS 133 16" alloys as had them sat in the garage off my Fiances car. Definitely different to the Turini's, 182 and 172 rims haha

Reminds me of my DCI, cracking little cars.

Thanks - I have flame red front wings and sideskirts in the garage if your interested? I have broken a few clios over the years so have these left over.

Since buying the car there was a slight whistle on throttle but it got worse until yesterday it was more steam train like.

Quickly diagnosed the turbo to inlet pipe as the cause

DSC_6408_zpsx0qmzgcm.jpg

It has had a an amazing bodge completed with Samco self emalgamating tape and a jubilee clip.

Not buying a new one as just picked up a dci 100 intercooler and once I sort pipework it will be going on.

Also cleaned out egr and unplugged it. Will be blanking it off when doing the intercooler and also going to 80/100 injectors as well before a remap.

K&N panel filter ordered and will be making a straight pipe to remove the backbox then emptying out the cat as well.

Well just got back from the first decent drive in the rep. Went to the Lakes for 3 days and only issue was lack of power but that's as I haven't had such an underpowered car since passing my test lmao.

Only other little issue is horn doesn't work intermittently haha. Gutted as my average MPG dropped from 65mpg to 62mpg due to all the banks hahaha

Got some new injector seals as well from Renault as 1 has a slight weep causing the usual waxy residue.

Another day some more odds & sods......

- Horn repaired - wiring was shot so swapped it out
- Injector removed and copper washer replaced as had a weap
- Aux belt & tensioner replaced
- Backbox chopped off
- K&N panel filter fitted & airbox drilled

Still searching for 80 or 100 injectors so until some come up it will be intercooler going on then waiting for them

  182 Cup & DCi 172
Well got some injectors last night so are on there way to me.

Today I decided to do a DIY egr complete removal and it's worked beautifully.....

Valve for egr is now in battery area connected up so ecu doesn't through a hissy fit.

The egr mixer chamber is gone and replaced with a straight pipe and samco coupler.

The egr feed from the exhaust manifold is blocked with a plug formed out of chemical metal and held with the original renault clip.

Also started mocking up air feeds for the Swiss cheese airbox.

Looks great. I want more power out of my dci 65 is it just a case of coding the bigger injectors - fit intercooler and get it mapped ? I was unsure if the hp pump needed changing too.

Pretty much, i am taking the cat out, backbox off and improving air intake as well so should have scope for 100-120bhp

Great transformation from when you got it.

But those wheels are awful.

Definitely marmite but we're free as had them in the garage haha. Turini's will come eventually.

Great transformation.

Thanks

Rob, there is a black cup spoiler in the FS section.

Cheers, have messaged about a few now but want a bargain lmao

Well parts arrived, missing 1 hose but is on its way.
Spoke to RS Tuning who will be doing the mapping so all good there.

Interested to see how this goes. I would be happy with 80 or 100hp wonder if i can get the oem map flashed onto the 65 ecu for budget tuning

I wouldn't as will need an intercooler for that. You can get the 65 mapped to around 70-80bhp ok.

The 80 has a large intercooler but isn't as efficient as the 100. Both the 80 and 100 have larger flowing injectors so would be limited by both these factors.

  182 Cup & DCi 172
Got a stroke of luck today whilst browsing the scrapyard and found a dci 100 in the breakers. Already had been stripped of most of its nice parts.

Luckily still had the full intercooler pipework and intercooler itself so will be using this instead.

Stripped it off so have all screws, hoses, clips and brackets for a bargain price as well!

Im going to find a 2nd hand dci 80/100 intercooler and injectors before any mapping..i imagine the charge temps are sky high already. Performance difference is quite noticeable on cold days compared to hot..

Is the turbo different on a 100? I replaced my turbo a while back - think its an 80hp model as i had to turn the boost pressure down as it was peaking 1.2/1.3bar chucking the eml light on.

The 65/80 turbo are the same and the 100 is a VNT unit.

100 intercooler is the best option as most efficient and in the colder air when moving.

I thought the 100 turbo was a vnt from previous looking. I do wonder if i find an 80 ecu/uch/100 intercooler & matched injectors to ecu could be a plug and play slight power increase ? To be fair just slight power increase and slightly better economy would be a win in my eyes.

  182 Cup & DCi 172
Intercooler tidied up and painted then fitted with the dci 100 pipework.

Replaced the vac lines with samco and added a t piece as only 1 take off for 100 where 65 and 80's have 2.

Brackets didn't fit so made some up and fitted it all....

Looking good on the Twingo wheels, I would try and source the Dacia intercooler instead, that's what I had for my 80, it is a direct replacement for the dci 100 unit
