The story begins on Boxing day, i was bored as most people are on that day so decided to take a look on eBay. I didn't even need to replace my car I was just bored of it ha. So I found this with a short time left on the auction, description seemed OK so i stuck a bid in and I won! This is my first sport, I am normally a Honda or Japanese car guy (spent many thousands building my old Civic EG), but i have had a few Frenchie’s in the past. I always fancied one of these so thought I would give it a go! The car itself is in good condition, i was surprised when I went to check it over and took it for a drive. As with all cars now I have been using it for a couple of weeks the faults start to creep out.

Now i really should be saving to move out, but i can't help spending money on cars. I'm sure for a lot of you guys it’s the same, the car makes me happy so why not! I do 110miles a day and its doing around 40/1mpg which was a big surprise running on Vpower. Yesterday was the first day i pushed the car hard around some lanes, despite the s**t Jinyu tyres it actually handled very good. I was impressed!

So time for a couple of pictures then we can talk plans.

Only just noticed my thumb got in the way! That was this morning in the work car park.

As with most, the steering wheel has perished. I have been speaking to Royal Steering Wheels in Aylesbury and I'm going down on the 28th to have the new wheel fitted :)

Next purchase was the rear number plate light as it was pretty past it! So gave the recess and the connector a clean before refitting with the new item. I also threw out the engine cover as it was nasty and broken in several places, it was just rattling around making noise. Will need to source a replacement at some point.

So driving to work this morning and onto the M1 and the lights came on, having a quick search could be the brake pedal switch so I have ordered a new one of those from K-tec and a code reader for future use.

So what are the plans? Well the car has 130k on it and the paperwork is a bit suspicious, the service book was stamped at 65k for the belt being done at a specialist and it was supposed to have been done 9k ago, but the paperwork doesn't seem right to me. With that in mind I have booked the car in at the start of Feb with Engine Dynamics for a Vehicle Service Code D with the uprated Gates kit, VVT + WP, wheel alignment and check the balancing on the front wheels as I have a nasty vibration at 60+. I am really looking forward to Andy going over the car to make sure it's not a lemon and we can fix any other faults hopefully while we are at it.

Once the car is back with me I have a lot more things I would like to do and will be purchasing more parts. Stay tuned for more updates and I will get some more photos of the car shortly!

Totally missed this thread! Car looks nice and tidy mate, and a good plan to get the belts done. Stops you worrying everytime you go for a drive.
Hopefully the brake light switch solves it, have you tried actually resetting it by pulling it all the way out and refitting? How much did ktec charge for a new one?? Often cheaper through renaultpartsdirect (Free shipping with the code on here too).
Good luck with the future and keep updating the thread! Look forward to reading about it.

Thanks! Think from K-tec it was around £16ish. Funnily enough after work jumped in and hasn't been on since, but i'm sure it will come back so might as well just swap it and go from there.

Well done for saving it! Hopefully it's an easy fix.

Yer it should be nice and easy, im sure the car has plenty of surprises in store for me lol, but I'm ready to get stuck it and give her some love :)

110 miles a day? Holy smokes Batman!

Yup, i working in Reading and live in Luton so its about 55 miles there and then 55 back obviously.

Check your abs rings for any damage mate too!

Good point, something may have been stuck preventing it from reading properly. All seems fine now, typical.

Anyways some more pictures to give you a general idea of the condition.

Very dirty thanks to the snow and salt on the roads atm, i'm not sure if someone has painted some of the plastics inside they seem to have a bit more metallic in them then i remember. Either way there are all sticky and horrible!

Rest of the interior is probably wearing inline with the age and mileage of the car, but i will replace most parts and make it fresh again! If anyone can tell me where i can get the carbon fiber bits I will be happy, I have been looking everywhere! Do people just get them dipped?

As always comments welcome.

Looks a good base for a project and good luck with it

Reading other people's threads in here is a great way of getting ideas of changes to make on the car, not so good for the wallet lol!

So far it has been OK, i have experienced maybe twice where im at low speed/revs and the car hits a wall and almost stops for a second and then its fine. I think the car was ran on s**t fuel before whereas i only use Vpower in it. I may just replace the injectors not sure yet see what ED says.

Least you can rest in the knowledge of the car having £1500 worth of belts :dizzy:

Well I was looking through the 4/5 invoices i have for the car from "the specialist" and the belt may well of been done less than 10k ago, but it seems suspicious to me. For piece of mind i would rather have it checked/replaced by someone who knows what they are doing as it has a whine sometimes which seems like a pulley!

I `d have more confidence if was only £600.
Ryan`s no fool, It was a was a 1K 182 and it`s going straight into ED.

Thanks Steve, like i said im really excited for ED to drive the car as they know exactly how the car should be and can pick up any faults etc.

So the light i mentioned previously had been coming on again, when i restart the car it could stay off for a while then reappear. I got my code reader today and plugged it in, but didn't find any faults (light wasn't on at the time) I also received my new brake pedal switch so changed that over and hope that does the trick, checked the brake fluid level and that was good as well.

45.1 [emoji15] is it all down hill?? I wish mine would do that, just once to keep our lass quiet [emoji23]

Ha ha no far from it! I have to use M1, M25 and M4. It's all about anticipation especially around town, try not to stop unless you can help it and keep the momentum up etc. I was driving like a grandma but still doing 65/70mph. I just wanted to see what I could get out of it.

So today was exciting as i got my new steering wheel fitted, much better than the original. However it was not all good as the car now has a problem :( Will make another post for that. I'll let the pictures do the talking, work was carried out by Royal Steering Wheels.

That looks great mate, do you prefer the thumbgrips being trimmed in like on the 197 wheel?

So this morning has been spent trying to work out some issues and a general look over the car. I don't really like working on cars anymore, but sometimes needs must.

First problem started a week or so ago, I was driving home and noticed one of the Xenons had gone red. The plan was to take the bumper and lights out swap the bulbs over and see if it happened on the other side. Luckily it did so i know its the bulb and will order some replacements shortly.

The second and major issue is that the car is now cutting out when slowing down in traffic or pulling up to junctions etc. I have taken the throttle body off and that was very clean so no issue there, I checked the relays in the engine bay fuse box and no sign of water ingress there either. I'm sure it will be something electrical i'm just not sure what, as the car is going to Engine Dynamics next week I will ask them to investigate and hopefully they can fix it!

Gives you an idea of what the colour difference is like.

Started to jack the car up to get the wheels off and then found this! I went and checked the others and they are all the same, so i need some more wheels nuts.

20170129_110445.jpg

When i got the car on stands and the bumper off it was pretty filthy so gave it a wipe over.

20170129_114642.jpg

Decided to get the under tray off as it was a bit tatty, when i undone the tray this fell out.

20170129_115800.jpg

As you can see the padding on the under tray is totally past it so I ripped that off and threw it away. Had a look under the car and it's not as bad as i thought it might be, the sump looks like its leaking, the ARB D bushes are finished and the exhaust manifold is dented where it used to hit the sub frame before the dog mount was changed. I checked the lambda wiring as someone on here had similar cut out problems and it was shorting on the wiring. Couldn't see any issues with it, so i have a little shopping list of parts and i'm just praying to the gods that the cut out problem is simple to sort.

Yep, I have them.in mine as well as many others and never had a issue. Mine are 5000k temp.

In fact, on many forums you'll look that have D2S bulb, they recommend HID's direct own bulbs.

Going to order the bulbs in a min, stupid question I have noticed the top bulbs in the rear lights are missing! What are they for the rear fog?
