weird idle and hesitant starting 172 cup



hi CS peeps.

just wondered if anyone's experienced similar things to what my cup is doing.

car wasn't used for week as on hols. No probs before it was parked for a week. Start it up and have an immediate misfire. Diagnosed as injector 4. Replaced, misfire gone.

But I'm left with a rough idle and a low idle when stopped with clutch down. Its also taken 2 or 3 turns to get it started...

replaced the crank sensor today and made no difference. Its weird it pulls fine no popping or misfiring at speed but if its cruising it feels like every now and again something's a miss and its almost like I tiny surge.

its had a new coil pack, ht leads, oil and filter within a year. Ngk plugs about 18 months ago.

I'm a little perlplexed as it was fine before the holiday. Typically French...!
 
right after replacing injector 4 to solve the misfire went down the route of crank sensor, map sensor and coolant temp sensor all made no difference.

so thought id just recheck the other 2 injectors that hadn't been replaced and turns out injector 3 was on its way out too. Bit weird the 2 and 4 would fail in the same week. Runs sweet as now after 3 new sensors and some new injectors.

You posted that changing injectors fixed the issue, but I just bought a 172 non-ESP (Australian) that had very noticeable surging at cruise, and a bad speedo wobble. Both only occurred after the car was warm. I changed the speedo sensor on the gearbox and it's fixed, and getting better fuel economy too.
ESP-fitted Clio IIs don't have a gearbox speedo sensor, I'm not sure what the 172 Cup has since we didn't get them here in Australia.

Mines a bit grouchy in mornings when it's cold it's spluttery and idles a bit iffy but when warm it's perfect, got a feeling mine is one or more injectors.

Thought as much tbh thinking back my old ones were similar, never get hooned Till warm anyhow so it's all good [emoji106]

It's the cold map, should idle at 1100 then drop to 900 when up to temp.
