Can anyone recommend a garage in Cardiff?

  Clio 182
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew somewhere that I could get some basic servicing work done in Cardiff on my 182? It's small things like a gearbox oil change, removing the acoustic valve and fitting new dogbone bushes. I'm based at the University Dental Hospital.

Thanks in advance,

Amar

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't suppose you know of any Renaultsport friendly places? Being mechanically inept myself, I'm not sure if they would know what I was asking of them for some things. It would sort of be like the blind leading the blind.

Grange service station on Clive street in grangetown - phil the owner was the Renault technical expert / master technician at Cardiff Renault for years but now has his own garage
Only person I let touch my cars - has rebuilt my 182 into a show car with me, same with my old r26 and 5 gt turbo - now my new r26
Garage looks a bit crummy but I can assure you he is spot on - cheap too!

Yeah still active. Had my gearbox and clutch fitted a couple of weeks back as well as all my servicing, belts etc. I don't take my car anywhere else now, they are extremely trustworthy.
Cheers mate. Gave his mobile a call and no answer, so rang the Cardiff number and left a message.

He's on holiday until the 4th Jan mate - Spain I think!
Need him to sort my interior fan as got a leaf stiluck in it again and making a horrible noise plus got a xenon bulb that needs changing so I shall be there as soon as he gets back
I'm off work next week so I'll probably polish my car down there too! He's good like that!!

To bump this thread up, I popped down to see Phil in Grange Service Station on Tuesday.
Can't rate him/them enough. Fitted my car in to be looked over free of cost because I was a bit worried about a noise, and then discussed the issues with me after. Turns out I'm in need of a new shaft as the gaiter has split and is letting water in/grease to leak, and a bent tie rod end, so I'll be booking that in with him at some point this month. :)
Anyone local to South Wales, definitely give him a call!

Sounds pretty good! Always thought the south wales area is lacking in a decent specialist!
He's a top guy from what I can see. Has a background working in Renault, has worked on various Clio's/Meganes (he mentioned someone on here has recently gone with an R26?) and is very well priced for labour rates. Will definitely be going the for any future work.

He's planning to take her up to about 400bhp soon. He doesn't need the power, but said he wants it!

happy days, they are pretty easy to get power out of, hybrid turbo and another map and i dont think i'd be far off,

cant justify it though, i hardly use it as it is lol

These threads/sub threads prove they come in handy. I wouldn't have known any of these places without people posting on here.

Sadly I can't agree with you guys on Phil.

Give him a call about changing my clutch/flywheel and he quoted me 9 hours work @ £40 per hour and then 6 hours to change the cambelt @ £40 per hour.

So 15 hours before I paid for parts!

Mark Black of Midland Renault quoted me £200 to change the clutch (already have a billet smf and r26r) and then £425 for the cambelt including parts.

It maybe a drive but definitely worth the trip it seems

Can't say I've had the same issue and I've had my clutch done by him.

I'm sure SJM is closer than a trip to Birmingham.

Is that for a clio or a megane?

I'd rather support a local business but 9 hours labour seems mental and even 6 hours for the timing belt seems ott!

I'm sure SJM is closer than a trip to Birmingham.

Foat Auto on Penarth rd is pretty good, ex Renault tech opened his own garage, guys name is Shaun pretty reasonable as well...

Shaun and phil are mates - grew up together, both good but I take mine to Phil.

If you tell Phil what you were quoted elsewhere I'm sure he would try and help, he is currently fitting my milltek system to my R26

Can't fault phil really, found him reasonably priced and pretty helpful when finding a misfire with my cup.
But, that's a lot more expensive than I payed to have a new clutch and ttv racing flywheel fitted at SJM...A hell of alot more.

Id love to support a local business and not have to travel too far but Mark Black has quoted me £200 to fit the TTV |SMF and clutch which seems a bloody good deal!

Can I ask how much SJM charged for fitting the Flywheel and clutch mate?

Give Phil another call - I had a chat with him last night and he explained he was quoting book times to you to give an idea of size of jobs, if you give him another call and ask for a price to carry out the job I'm sure he will give you a set price.
He really is a good bloke and a great mechanic, I used to go all over the place to get my cars worked on, then met Phil and haven't looked back! Would now consider as one of my best mates - I do his head in with my demands but always does as asked!

Just want to give a recommendation to Sean @Foatauto

He's recently fitted the TTV flywheel/R26.R clutch, supplied and fitted a cambelt/waterpump/aux belt kit, new CV boots and re-gassing the air con all in a day and a half and at an awesome price!
