The Power PC Thread [f*ck off consoles]

  340i
I take it with that much RAM you were using it for rendering, rather than gaming. Would make a ridiculous home VMware box. Though it'd be cheaper to buy a half way decent server.

Just what I was going to say / ask!

Or was it just a case of 'because I can, I will.'

Some people have spent some money in this thread!
All for a powerful PC, but do you really need ALL of that spec some of you?

The money spent must be unreal,

i have a fairly basic £600 budget build PC I built a few months back,
runs DOTA2, SC2 and CS:GO like a dream ~ all it needed to do.

I've just been looking at external graphics, in a standalone box. Now that's hardcore.

Four water cooled Titans? lol

When one fills up their car do they put in half a tank and fill up when it runs low or does one put in a full tank. Memory is fairly cheap when you take into account the rest of the components! 16GB is the sweet spot these days if you want to be gay about it ;)

2011 socket takes 8 modules and up to 64GB, so I gave it 64GB lol. I did use a large chunk of it as a RAM drive at one point though, pretty quick!

That's great, but not everyone has the same standards or requirements. Did you need an R26?

Mines over 2 years old now, and was a budget build at the time.

The specs are:

Intel Pentium Dual Core (i3 minus hyperthreading) @ 4.2 Ghz
Asus Nvidia GTX 460 768MB
4GB DDR3 Ram
2 x 1TB HDD's
400w Corsair PSU

LG 20" Monitor
Dell Ultrasharp 24" IPS Monitor, which is bloody awesome!

Cost around £600 - £700 all together I think.

Still plays every game I throw at it so I wont be upgrading it yet.

PMSL.

I like your thinking.... It's what I would do!

haha! fair point ;)
I dont NEED a powerfull computer but I do like to buy new games now and then, if I throw FC3 or any Crysis game ive got then I know it would handle it with ease, but most online games like what you said CS:GO and ill put in CoD, LoL, TF2 and games like that, dont really need much power. but its fun when i get 250 fps on TF2 lol

Not sure, I guess somewhere along the line from 2 to 4 thousand pounds on video cards there's a kill switch in my brain that switches from man child to sensible lol

That's one of two, still got to buy the second one yet. I'll be buying a second pump also.

The fans are double-packs so there's 8 there.

I'm currently in an 800D but going to 900D.

I bought a HAF 932 case a couple of months ago, still not decided what I am doing with it yet!

I am considering stripping the whole thing down to be painted in matt black as its not painted inside.

Looks good ,what rads do you have atm? I run a 360 + 140 for an i7 + 7970, but tempted to just ditch them and go for 2x 480's if/when I get a 900D (it won't fit under my desk, but I'm gonna get on anyway - bawler.)

Also what thickness is the rad, looks thicker than 60mm?

Considering the money I've spent, the way I've done the tubing + where I've put the pump/res combo it looks pretty poo, a 900D will be a good excuse to chuck a few hundred+ @ it!

as my specs i just posted up what would people suggest for upgrades towards it

  2002 clio 1.2dynamic
Move away from the APU and the Crossfired GPU and get something more powerful (upgrade GPU, CPU on it's own is fine).

7950 for £250 ish would be a very good upgrade.

Graphics card is just the old one from my past pc so I just slapped it in are you suggesting the on board graphics would be better .

Looking for a decent graphics card to use with my 3d monitor my 42"tv

Not sure what specs the GPU on the CPU are (can't seem to find any to compare vs 4350), but the 4350 is very very dated!

I'd run a benchmark (Heaven) with the GPU, and then run one with the onboard GPU, and see how you fair. You will actually probably find the onboard is quicker, though cannot be 100%.

edit: Just thought - maybe I can't find info on it is because it's an older AMD CPU and doesn't have the GPU onboard? Either way, its new GPU time!

Thought the amd fx8350 Oct core chip was one of the more recent ones . I'll check out this benchmark heaven thingy as I'm not completly pc noob but not amazing with them either

Whats the make and model?
I put my computer in my 42" in my living room, and the picture was foul. So distorted. The 4350 is an old old card! Dont think a benchmark like heaven would be your best bet with that GPU along with addicted is saying :)
Is it the Bulldozer CPU?

I only have a 360 in there at the moment, I'm either going to run 2 x 480s in the 900D or 2 x 480s and the 360 I currently have (i'll decide as I build it tbh). I don't know how I'm ever going to lift this one once fully built.

I'm building up the case and cooling components at the moment, i don't see the need to upgrade the components right now.

Ahh that sounds good, I'm tempted to upgrade in the summer and stick a 480 in as well, so I'd have 480, 360, 140.

I know the feeling, weighed my 800D the other day out of interest comparing to my mates, he's got some BitFenix case - his came in at 21Kg, I came in at 35Kg...

I have to take it to a LAN at the end of this month - which means actually taking it apart (at least draining loop and removing GPU - the waterblock is so heavy I think it would snap off in transit!!), not gonna be fun.
