Ouch, Gearbox + Clutch. (172 Mk2)

  ITB'd 172 POPTART
Last night was driving Home and heard a knocking on drivers side when turning corner. Having read posts in the past about drive shafts i jumped out and checked the inner and outer CV's and all seemed fine. No metal or leaking grease.

Continued to drive so i could get home as it was dark and have a good look in the morning. Driving home for the remaining 10 miles and just head a bang and what sounded like a bag of spanners rattling together or nuts in a biscuit tin type noise. Whilst i heard this the car breaked for me which was nice and fcuking dangerous.

My mate came out to have a look and said i lost gears 1,2 and 5.

Rolled it forward to toe in neutral and and pop/grind only gear 5 remained.

Clutch smelt like it had melted where it may have not released or such alike and maybe ceased in engage gear as the car is perm in a gear now.

AA bloke did his part and said that can't be fixed here ill throw u on my truck and at the same time gave me a number for his mate for a clio williams. NICE.

So i have read alot of posts this morn and last night and i know the gearbox i need or rebuilt it a JC5

Alot of ppl have mentioned that gearboxes are the same on other clio's and such alike.

WHat is the stornger gearbox option for my car.

been looking at a 2nd hand one to go for a rebuild anyway. Read the DCI 1.5 Kangroo is a good stronger contender with shorter gears which would suit the car better.

Appologies im a novice in this area.

He did the rebuild on the box in our race car and its been faultless.

Does them in a day or 2 and has all the parts on the shelf. Normal cost is £275+vat. Refered loads of members there now and everyone has been happy. Gray and geesus69 have just had theirs done by him
