Jekyll's RB182 Progress Thread

So with my current N/S hub having play where the ball joint goes, i bought another new genuine bearing seen above and a 2nd hub from @Coops Turbo. The hub turned up friday so i decided to (once again!) stay after work to do soe more work on the RB! I must love it there and the RB too!

Jacked up.

I took no time in destroying/breaking down the 2nd hub.

Sandblasted and painted

All ready for refitting

After last time with pulling out the driveshaft, i took no chances and prepared myself! 😂

Thankfully, seen as everything was new, cleaned and greased, it all came apart effortlessly.

Pressed out the flange and as expected, the bearing race was stuck on the flange. This is why i bought a new bearing and am glad i did as to remove it i had to do this:

33074054326_d3f6433ae3_z.jpg

Only a few weeks old too! New bearing kit and painted hub ready for rebuilding:

33074046156_ac16ecb0e0_z.jpg

At this point i must admit i had a bit of a scare as i didn't place a tube under the bearing when pressing it into the flange. This made the bearing pop out a bit. Cue a good half hour while i collected my bearings (see what i did there ) and figured out what i had done wrong. Once i figured it out out i rebuilt them and all went together as they should be. However i did make another rookie mistake. I had only one side jacked up and was struggling to get the ball joint in. After a quick recap, i realised the anti roll bar was doing its thing so i jack up the other side so both wheels where off the ground and hey presto, all back on as it should be with no dramas!

On and torqued up to 280nm.

During the night i started to paint the clock bezel in between the bearing change. From this:

To this:

I gave it a good few coats of lacquer and kept it somewhere safe over the weekend so it could dry properly. Obviously i shut/locked my toolbox draws.

By this point it was getting late and i was getting quite tired. This was apparent with my few mistakes tonight, plus id stayed at work the night before till 10pm doing some charity work that my firm are involved with. This will be revealed soon but its for children with Duchenne and the charity we are raising for is Harrison's Fund, which is very close to my boss's heart. If you have time, please have a read the link. I will update in due course of our charity project

However, there is always time for a quick few snaps!

So that was that for friday. Sunday i went outside and gave the RB a quick wash (no point in anything more as it had rained overnight and the roads was still fairly damp) as i was heading off to the Witham meet for some pub lunch. Noticed this so that will be replaced soon.

32772035390_b16e203194_z.jpg

I also took part of the windscreen sticker off by accident so i removed the lot of it. I have another spare should i want to put it back on. The meet was nice and we stopped off to get some pics afterwards. They can be found here:

And 2 of the RB from the meet.

Not bad for a car that ticked this number this morning before work:

32998640592_b81fa38525_z.jpg

As you can see around the edge of the bezel in between the 7k and 8k mark the paint raised. This is why i painted my new one. Here is fully hardened:

32339620483_edfe861dd7_z.jpg

I will give it a light flat and dry with 2000 grit and some polish and refit it, hopefully for the last time!

I have got a new exhaust surround coming and i will order some new aero blades for the car all round too. That's it for now

Lovely work as ever, and look at that shiny hub, presume no issues with ball joint fitting?

I love this car - always evolving & improving... one of my favourites from the forum!

I only normally have eyes for the Phase1 cars, I ordinarily find the Ph2 RS Clios a little bit bland (please don't shoot me!) Maybe its because there are more of them around, or that the myriad of special editions of the 'lesser' model facelift cars look so very similar to the 'cooking' RS, make them look less distinctive?.... but in Racing Blue they just look fab, especially on white wheels!

Every time I come in this thread it makes me want another Clio.

Something about them I miss, and this one is exactly how I would build one given the chance again.

Very very nice car!

I've just had a good read through this Mark. Love all the write up's, the cars a credit to you!

I think I'll always have a soft spot for an RB. Definitely the fasted colour as well iirc?

Havent updated this in a while so......

I haven't done anything to it! Ive done no mods or work barring a puncture repair and a change in lift up reverse washer on the BMS shifter.

The repair on the OSR. I had a nail stuck in there, but it wasnt losing presure or anything but i wanted it to be fixed regardless.
34289299975_37e001842b_z.jpg

I changed the washer on the BMS shifter as it had worked its way loose and couldnt be refitted without glue and there was only a small lip. I'd been thinking for a while that it needed a slightly larger washer so this was the perfect time to change it. I used one of the top mount washers i had spare of. (The ones to cure the knocking noise they had) I also had some rubber sleeves at work so i drilled out the hole bigger and fed it up the sleeve so it was nice and snug (I removed the sleeve while this was being worked on) and then shaped it to the washer and gave it a tapered edge and glued it to the washer. All is good. It looks and feels better now.

Still loving it, still driving it daily and still not worried about the swirl marked, scuffs and chips. This one is being used!

No mate. I'll be totally honest, it doesn't really interest me. Not atm anyway.

Hopefully we'll be buying a house this year (providing we can get a mortgage, which I hope we can as we've saved a fair bit over the last few years) so that is the main priority on money spending atm so the track days would take a back seat anyway.

Great updates as always Mark, still the best car on here IMO.

Your 2118's look large! Sometimes they look tiny on Clios!

How do you find the BMS shifter Mark, have been looking at them for the cup

Great stuff Mark, good to see it's still going strong......... same as me recently with the nail in tyre and needed replacing despite not loosing pressure, except mine was driver side rear. Looks lovely as always in the photos

I think it's because they're white, most 2118's you see are in Anthracite or a dark colour so look a lot smaller than white and silver wheels.

Looking good as always Mark.

It's clean in the oucs but up close it's not as clean. As said, it's mega swirly, has scratches and chips so don't be fooled it mint as it's not. But it's on 116k now and does 40miles daily so I just wash and polish it by hand as and when I can.

Love it mate, looks cracking. [emoji7]

Thanks badboy!

It's far from that statement mate!

As for the 2118s, mine are et38 so are slightly wider anyway. The AD08r's are quite bulky so that helps the look also.

I like it mate. It's no PMS one that's for sure but it's never claimed to be. It's a nice bit of kit and works well, but underneath it is a homebrew shifter. Saying that, it is a modified scenic shifter with nice bits on it, so it's to be expected. I like it though :)

I tell a lie, it was actually the drivers side rear. Thanks Steve!

That may have a as into the looks also. Cheers Ethan.

Mines simular @Dr Jekyll but in much worse condition, 166k now and suffering body wise. Still salvageable I reckon but knocking on bless her and tbh the 4 year older 145k phase 1 is in better nick dare I say it!

The ph1 does look awesome on the willy wheels and with the now spacer'd lows

I think these are around £150ish and the PMS ones are normally £250ish 2nd hand.

That looks absolutely stunning.

Keep pining after another Clio but not sure I'll miss my 225.

Should've kept my old 182.
