Martin's Track Clio 182 Project Thread

Another very very late update! I use Insta for more frequent stuff now days, easier on the phone! @mjhmotorsport Anyway the car is still going strong, although it's use during COVID has been very minimal unfortunately! Its MOT passed with flying colours again and the chap was very...

Martin's Track Clio 182 Project Thread

Not updated in a while because there's not a huge amount going on. Graham and I did a track day at Brands in August and the cars both performed faultlessly, even in the 30+ degree heat. My oil temp was pretty stable around 115 degrees. The very average AD08Rs held up ok too to be fair. When...

    MarkCup's BMW M140i

From watching that it was clear you were coasting a fair bit. If it were me I'd 100% get some better pads in there. What do you have now, standard ones? If so something slightly better but not full track spec would be a good step. DS2500s or equivalent... What did you think of Bedford? I...

Starting out on my own - cleaning cars for money !

I'm always trying to get people I relativity trust to do a basic wash on my cars. I would never take them to a car wash place, and often I just don't have the time to spend 2-3 hours on them myself.

    Tried to go 200mph today.

That is exactly the type of t**t who I despise. Needs putting down. Great events these though. Such a good experience. I only managed 169mph when I went many moons ago.

Clio 2 phase 2 Cv joint

Pretty sure they can as I think @GrahamS took apart his spares for parts.

Graham's summer 172 cup track car

No arch liners. Deflector plates are genuine Renault cup racer fiberglass ones. I'm not sure they are around anymore. You can buy other deflector plates online though, like from CMComposites.

    Mondial Blue Cup Track Car

I couldn't run a car on track without one. The fear of not knowing would drive me crazy. I love being able to see when its warm enough for beans and when it's getting stable during sessions. Also to keep an eye on oil pressure keeps my brain relaxed.

Oil temps are not an issue if you get an oil cooler mate. When Graham and I went to Brands last Wednesday my oil temp was stable around 105 degrees. Graham's peaked at 115 degrees. Only difference being he hits the limiter and I short shift very early like a pansy.

    Clio 172/182 - Too small?

6 ft 2 and zero issues in mine. Not standard seats or frames though. One thing to note, is if you have a full cage a helmet might get tight in the front. I have to slouch a little in my mates car. OMP subframes, side mounts, buckets, full cage.

Frayz's Inferno 182 - Back in the old flame

Ultras for me. I think the other options look like they should belong on something Jap. How on earth do you find the time to do all this car stuff non stop lol. I'm jealous! Been wanting to give my Clio a clean for weeks and I'm still waiting for a time gap!

Love both, but prefer the TDs on yours. Silver TDs are just epic. (hate them in black)

    Loose Read End

Billies are designed for fast road use. I've been in cars with them on a track and they wallow all over the place. GAZ you could customize a kit and basically tell them how stiff you want it. I think BCs you can do this too. I don't have any experience with either of these though, I just see...

    Loose Read End

Don't buy bilsteins for track use they are way too soft.

    Loose Read End

Have you checked the geo of the car? Something may be bent on the rear and you might require shims to correct it. Ideally want between -1 and -2 degree camber and 30-40 mins toe in on the rear to scrub the tyres.

Brake fade with decent brake setup?

I run standard Renault stuff on the rear of my track car. Been in there for years and still plenty left. Standard discs with CL RC6s on the front with good fluid and air cooling. Never had an issue and the previous set lasted me so well, including through a couple of winters road use that I...
