I've never heard of the speedo working off the ABS sensor. Check the back of your gearbox and you will see an electrical cable running into a large switch. I'm sure you'll find that's the detection device used in the gearbox.

Having read you have recently changed your auxillary belt could you describe how to do this. I've been trying to change mine all day without any success. I'm unable to locate the tensioner for the alternator or any other means of tightening the belt. Cheers
