Get the biggest compressor you can afford, flow rate is just as important as capacity. Sand blasting is a horrible job but sometimes there's no alternative, it's unbeatable for doing the underside of a car prior to welding. Great for getting in all the nooks an crannies you'd otherwise have no...
Any 13cm (5.25") speakers will fit straight in, you don't need to take the door cards off either the speaker grilles just pop off with a bit of care.
I'd buy the proper wiring adapters too they're only about 4 quid or something, the set of JVC speakers I bought came with some for the mk2 clio.
If I was doing it I'd want to at least maintain a shred of plausibility and insure it as a 1*2. There's half a dozen being broken in the classifieds at any one time, most people weigh the shells in once they're stripped.
It's not even remotely legal, but that's the way I'd do it and I'd have...
If I have to contort my ankle past the point of comfort to get an effective blip on the throttle then the pedals aren't designed for it IMO. To be fair, it might be different if I had old fluid with a bit of water/air content and a spongy brake pedal as a result, and it also might get a bit...
I really like the look of this!
And I can't H&T in my 172 either, had it down to a fine art in my Impreza as the pedals were set up beautifully for it, but in the clio the brake pedal biting point is just far too high relative to the throttle pedal. Slide your heel across and... Nothing there...
Does sound like a flat battery. Have you got a multi meter? Worth investing in one for less than 20 quid and watching a few youtube videos on how to do a few basic checks with it.
Cool cheers chaps! Had far too many door cards in the past where the speaker grille looks removable but after levering it off and it smashing into a million pieces it becomes obvious it was glued in! Forewarned is forearmed
Just wondering are the covers in the door cards easily removable to replace the speakers in a ph2 172? My left hand speaker has started farting like a goodun so ordered a cheap pair of 13cm jvcs to replace them with, I've seen you can buy the covers separate to the cards which would lead me to...
Haha, I was so paranoid about doing the same when refitting my cams I set all the pistons to 1/2 way up the bores and didn't move them until the cam covers were fully on and timing tools in place then very gingerly turned the engine round to tdc on no.1
I've absolutely hated every...
Bugger, the 17 year old in me does love pulling handbrake turns! Might have a quick look to see if there's performance brake pads available for the rear of these.
How do you find your handbrake in autosolos? I'd like to try one in my 172 but the handbrake is crap at locking the wheels on the move, will simply changing rear discs and pads sort it?
Why don't you stick your 182 on ebay at what you think it's worth? You never know you might be surprised.
Must admit though I can't see the appeal of going to a ph1, horrid dated looking front end compared to a ph2 IMO.
Got the wheel alignment done today, what a difference! Got confidence in pressing on with the car now, didn't feel comfortable accelerating before the pulling and tramlining was so bad. It feels quite quick now I'm able to properly run it through the gears, and there's no sign of crunching into...
Far better to spend a bit of money getting a proper technician to accurately diagnose the fault than throw loads of money at a game of parts darts and change components because it worked for someone on the Internet.
Just for reference I did a stone cold compression check on my engine and all four cylinders were well over 200 psi so you've definitely got an issue there. Has it had the head skimmed before? Check through the history as apparently these will only take it the once without affecting cambelt tension.
Can't remember to be honest, you don't even need a lot of extensions the nuts only maybe 3 inches into the subframe. Though if you haven't got deep sockets your tool kit must be pretty limited? I'd be worried about starting a job that is going to disable the car if you're not sure you've got...
It would have been less stressful if I was good with the spanners, unfortunately I'm only mediocre! And yeah if I booked it into a renault sport specialist for all this I'd have a four figure bill easily.
But it's now had pretty much every major job at the front end ticked off now, I still need...
To be honest I'm a bit worried to add it all up! I think the car set me back 580 and all the parts have probably cleared 600 quid, not including the 150 quid on the timing tools which I'll hopefully make most back when I sell them.
All in I'd guess the car owes me about £1200 now, which isn't...
Fitted power flex black to mine a few weeks ago, didn't need any special tools, deep socket and extension as a couple of the clamp bolts are accessed through deep recesses in the rear subframe. Used a little prybar to wiggle the rack out enough to change the bushes. I did mine on the floor with...
Thought I'd update this as I realised I never got round to it! As the compression check results were good I decided to go ahead and sort this engine out. A good look over it and I replaced all the belts and pulleys, water pump, resealed the cam cover and fitted a new sump gasket, new cam seals...
Bizarrely I managed to do a perfect job on my old 106 GTI bonnet, that looked spot on even a year later when I sold it. But I've tried a few smaller things like mirror caps and sill patches and never had as much luck since.
Yes it is, and I was thinking it doesn't have the stance to carry off a big spoiler. Assume you're thinking of the big whale tail quite steeply angled one I've only seen on v6 and rally cars? The trophy one that's fitted to some v6s is smaller than that, then the cup one is smaller again?
Still...
Anyone got a UK source for one of these? Been looking for a while as I'm fed up of the tiny spoiler on my flame red 172, not sure if I want a cup or a v6 spoiler but I can't find either in flame red only black silver or blue. Thinking if I've got to get one painted I may as well go the whole hog...
Best of luck with the project, I can understand and admire the desire to get such a special car back up to scratch!
Off topic, but is it a cup or trophy spoiler fitted to the car in that picture? It looks really good and I'm considering getting rid of my standard 172 spoiler as it's not big...
Quick update, found the fault after pulling all the loom apart and checking all the ECU earths to no avail. Injectors weren't being opened either so looked closer at the crank sensor, it tested fine and the wiring was fine when it was unplugged, but when plugged back in one of the female...
Yep it's a big job requires a box rebuild at the same time, there is a french company that makes a 2 part split seal that is a bit of a bodge, I've just tried fitting it to my 172 so ill let you know if it wirks
