have you checked if there is anything trapped on the spring mounts? I had a front spring broken at the end and it sounded exactly as you describe. BTW check the front ones as well. I always thought it was the rear on my car but was front in the end

i believe the ones in the dash do have a plug. If i am not mistaken the Alpine tweeters have an inline filter as well so there is not a lot to mess about them when fitting them. Get 2 adaptors and off you go. You will need a couple of cable ties to make them hold in to place.
