I had similar problems to those described in the OP - except the smell of petrol! Also virtually identical symptoms described in Scutch's latest post, above.
It was sorted by replacing the inlet solenoid valve. Not sure if that is the same as the air intake temperature sensor!
Anyway, if it's...
I am ashamed to say I spun my Williams…
Power down coming off a large roundabout (ie: turning left) on a patchy damp road… 'controlled' slide on the under-steer… Tyres (cold yokos) gripped a dry patch and I did a full 360 degree spin… and carried on driving. Felt like a bit of a prick. Still do!
As a follow-up tot he above post, I finally got my Clio sorted at Renault. Turns out it was the inlet solenoid valve - something that the technician I spoke to had never seen before!
Nope, I'd never heard of that before either! :)
Would a faulty lambda sensor also cause the electronic fault dashboard light to come on while driving?
Have a feeling mine needs replacing as my 172 is experiencing a lot of the symptoms described above! (Full thread / posts here...
Well… after replacing the coil pack, battery, spark plugs and exhaust (mid and rear sections) in the past few months - I still have the above problems… except now the electronic fault light has started coming on about 5 minutes after starting the car, meaning I can't rev it above 3k - but it...
hah! I knew that as soon as i posted this I would sort it…
Searched through loads of threads before posting, but on about the 4th page of results there was a thread that mentioned similar problems...
Following up a post I made earlier on a different thread, I have the strange issue of the rear and intermittent front wipers not working, as well as the air con and reverse lights. My service light is also illuminated on the dash with no other lights on.
I read that the service light can be...
Heh. Likewise. Even though all the dash lights looked bright and it continue to try and start - it just kept clicking! Changed battery (done 110K!) and everything was back to normal. :)
After giving the interior a vacuuming, my 172 is also doing this. Topped up with oil only last week so can't be that.
Could it still be the wires underneath the seats even if the airbag light isn't on?
Cheers for the suggestion! :) One of my Xenons has gone pink so I am going to replace the bulb(s). HIDSdirect has the D2S bulbs listed at £17.50 and the kits listed at £20.00. Can you tell me if I have got the right part as that seems awfully cheap! :)
Cheers for that... :) Having read a bit more, it seems that the coilpack could be the problem. I take it that a faulty coilpack can be an intermittent problem, but gradually getting worse over time?
Also, could it effect performance / fuel efficiency, as I have noticed a definite drop in my MPG...?
I know this thread is almost a year old, but I'm having the same problems as described above so I thought I'd resurrect it...
For a while now my 53 plate 172 hasn't been starting first time unless I blip the throttle. Now it has taken to cutting out / stalling when coming to rest. It is OK if...
Muchos gracias for the replies in this thread. Xenons stopped working and thought it was going to mean a trip to the auto-electrician. Luckily though, it was just a loose relay under the glove box.
I have them on my 172 now - to replace the A539s that they stopped making - and love them. Unfortunately, I have never tried another tyre brand to compare them with, but have no complaints so far. :)
No! :p
I have run my 172 on V-Power for over 10000 miles at a time with MPG of around 38mpg - and that is with a mixture of steady/enthusiastic and town/motorway driving.
I used to run Tesco 99 for a while before that, but found it inconsistent between batches. Sometimes I'd get good...
Meh - looks a bit like a popularity contest to me. No way should the 205Gti be ahead of the Williams!
Also think that only 3-door cars should be allowed to enter! :p
