It was a 5 turbo cup racer..... not sure they ever made 160bhp in race sealed spec.
there was no mk 111 (X85) it was a midweek session with a low noise limit. the mk111 is way too noisy. I did offer to bring mine as well as the X65! there was however a 5TS ex Mark Fish car but this could...
Well, this UK car now resides in Belgium as a UK buyer could not be found..... sad, but it had to go.
As a parting shot, EVO have finally released the video from Rockingham... don't feel sad at all..... sob, sob....
Well. new clio project now arrived so this one is now up for sale, full advert on pistonheads: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/motorsport/race-cars/tin-tops/clio-cup-racer-x65/4595419
but this thread is probably the best way to know the car.
It sure is Tony and boy did we have an education at Brands Hatch last weekend.
Firstly I have to say I left the driving duties to Riku this weekend, he knows the track and was up for it so I thought why not give him the whole race.
Wet practice saw us qualify 9th out of 32 cars! then an...
ooops, let the thread slip somewhat....
Entered the first new Millennium series race at Snetterton in April, seems all of the similar cars didn't show so we were well off the pace, Wet practice though saw us qualify mid pack and splitting the 2 Clio X85 cup racers. Trouble was I had a new...
3? you don't do things by half's do you! Yes, certainly don't want to be searching for a ST75 in good knick. Hopefully will get some money together later in the year and go for a good one, assuming I don't scratch that ich for a Tattus FR2000 that's been nagging at me in the meantime.
Yes, first race at least and see how it goes from there. still looking to upgrade car to x85 at some point, but concentrating on this one for now. Father and son team!
as with all cordless stuff its the long term battery performance that lest them down. I found a source on EBAY for new ones for mine, not that they were listed for the one I have (Rolson!) but the photo looked the same so I took a punt and gave it a new lease of life. Moral is, buy one that...
looks a lot better than the shitter I looked at James for £14K, good stuff. need to shed some weight from it IMO. Problem is with these cars, once you change from standard the value drops, its the fact they are a current BARC race car that keeps the value high but all the parts need holograms...
Castrol SRF transformed the brakes on my old race spider, but they took a right hammering on track so may be over the top for general use. The cost of it made me very miserly when bleeding as well and as for binning used fluid every year that was heartbreaking!
That light does look interesting and was thinking along similar lines. The race series I was going for states:
"MSA compliant headlights are required."
when consulting the Blue book, I take that to mean from J5.14.4 "have glasses of minimum 182.5 sq cm each" Which to me sounds like an awful...
Yeah, that's cos I don't write about it that often... or even do much on the car that's worth writing about. See we have now bumped over to a second page!
V6 is a keeper, Snappy has the steering wheel right now while its sorned.
Just £££ James, they are just a little over my budget at the moment. Did go to look at one at a half decent price but it was a bit of a crapper with a poor spares package. What are your plans then?
.... well, purchase of x85 cup racer went a bit sour...... so for now at least I am hanging on to the x65 and am in the process of giving the front suspension a tidy up and good going over:
New uniball bearings in the lower wishbone extenders as these have no weather protection on them and...
this car now probably for sale, if anyone is here shows any early interest then PM me before I advertise it properly. Looking for in the region of £11K.
Yes and Yes is the answer. still on the Bilsteins, although now on pure motorsport top mounts and strut. Cannot believe anything else would be any better. Suggestions? Given that they are probably past their best.
Yes that Steve Waudby, the "SW" in "SWR" He was a founder of Harlow Group...
Competed at Curborough a couple of weeks ago in the Clio and was surprised to see this as our main class competition:
Its Ex Steve Waudby championship winning car and rebuilt to a high standard, great looking car inside and out.
Morning was wet and on our Michelin race wets Ricky was class of...
Well, after a new Helix clutch had to be fitted by Mark Fish, all is well and the car running sweetly. Just got it to Origine RS with only hours to spare (late night 5 hour sitting stationary on the M25 the night before didn't help).
Video of the car and other cars at that event here...
At last, Gearbox now collected from SWR, with this lot replaced:
total inc vat was £1600 or there abouts + the £70 spent welding and machining the cracked casing. (Which SWR would not get involved in)
Think SWR give a top service really, £375 flat labour charge on a SDTSA, its the cost of...
ok all stripped now:
no major issues with gears and dog rings but
crack here will need welding and machining (or £900 for a new casing!) Not actually a major issue and tempted to leave it but now I know its there I wont be happy.
First year for the UK (and only, at the time) cup racer had a lot of extender pin failures, the newer version was a longer pin with a longer thread. I am guessing the uniball holder would have to be a different size to save upsetting the geo. Just guessing really but there is only one part...
