    WSR 2007 (Clio's Only)

Yay! You photographed my 182 (Black 'un, FH05 XDG). And this year, I failed to win the award for "dirtiest Clio in the collector's area"!

    Fancy a SLR

The 350D is still a very capable camera, especially if you're looking for your 'first' DSLR. The comparable Nikon (D40?) is also highly rated. As to what lenses to get.... that depends really on two things: 1) what are you going to be shooting? 2) how much do you want to spend? If you buy...

    strange smell

I'd vote for the clutch - my 182 (12,000 miles) gives that kind of smell sometimes when driven "enthusiastically"...

    D80 Vs 400D

If you have no lenses from either Nikon or Canon tying you in to one or the other maker (and I'm ssuming you don't) then the two models - in terms of feature set are 'much of a muchness' in terms of image quality. The Canon has the clever 'anti-dust' sensor, although I'm not 100% sure of how...

canon 20d for £425 worth it?

The 20D is still a very capable camera; the only real difference between a 20D and the latest 30D is the newer model has a spot meter and a larger LCD screen on the back. If this is "new" (i.e. not 2nd hand) then that's a good price for a very good camera.

    Microsoft Server 2008 Enterprise

New versions of IIS and all the other favourites, but the most intriguing thing is they've built-in "virtualisation" technology (think Virtual Server) allowing the concurrent hosting of multiple operating systems (including linux, interestingly) on the server. They'te also planning on...

whos had their 172/182 from new?

Had my 182 since new exactly two years now. Still love it, even though the number plate light fell off today. Hey-ho, the benefits of Renault ownership. Every time I drive it 'enthusiastically' it always brings a smile to the face and I've no plans to get rid just yet!

when will canon be releasing a 450d ?

The 50mm f1.8 Prime is one of the best lenses Canon make - period. It's an absolute bargain, and is capable of some stunning shots. True, the lens is made of plastic, and the auto-focus is noisy and clunky, but I forgave it all that the first time I checked the kind of images I get from it...

    Microsoft Server 2008 Enterprise

This is the (previously known as) Longhorn Server. I've been running the 'BETA' versions for a few months, and we've got the latest image testing in a VM and on a test box at present. Looks much more capable than 2003, although you need something of a beast of a machine to run it on!

Try looking in "Computer Management" (from the "Administrative Tools" menu, or by right-clicking on "My computer" and choosing "Manage"). 182 shockers

Dealer price is £53.60 each. I know this as I had to argue like hell with Renault UK to get them to replace mine under warranty when one blew all its oil out recently!

    stupid question about Vista

There is a way to change the ridiculous size of the icons - right-click on the desktop, and from the menu that appears, there's a setting for either the icon size, or to display the icons (I'm remembering this off the top of my head as my laptop runs ubuntu!) Anyway - you need to set it to...

    laptop hard drive replacement

You don't necessarily need to put both drives in a desktop PC (they won't fit as standard without adapters, anyway!) I use Acronis Workstation for this sort of thing; I've a cheap (£6) USB caddy, when I need to 'clone' a laptop, I just stick the 'new' drive in the caddy, then boot from the...

    Linux people help!

You will get better performance with ubuntu. Also, if you want to install onto your hard disk, ubuntu will automagically re-partition your disk and keep your existing windows install intact (you may want to defrag your windows partition first though!) Ubuntu will be more secure by default too...

    Ubuntu linux 7.04 *Released*

It has the newest (and shiniest) GNOME, plus the latest updates to the kernel and other packages. Up from 6.10, they've also put a lot of work into wireless networking, including - by default - an easy to use WLAN configuration tool (think similar to Windows' one). They are really targetting...

    Ubuntu linux 7.04 *Released*

For those of you who may be interested, Ubuntu linux 7.04 has been released today! New versions of the ISO images for the "Desktop", "Server" and "Alternate" versions of Ubuntu are now available. For those of you wanting to try linux, Ubuntu is a very good distribution to start with. More...

    Site sub domain help.

You're going to need to add a new host record to your existing ones, for your new sub-domain; the fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) for your new sub-domain just needs to point to whatever your IP address is, (i.e. where your web server is 'listening'). Once the traffic arrives at the web...

    Site sub domain help.

Whoever hosts your DNS records (if it isn't you!) needs to create an 'A' record for the 'new' site, you can then set up the site on the web server (if you haven't already) and then amend the 'host' header name so that it answers to http://sketch.inc-s.co.uk The web server bit depends on which...

    IT Jobs

This is exactly how my company works; I'm the Systems/Technical Support Manager for a software company in Nottingham, and when we bring people into the business, it's usually in 'entry level' positions, such as Technical Support. We then train them and get them thinking in our way, they learn...

    EOS 5D + 24-105 L, Kit

Well done Oms; you know it makes sense! As to the 2.8, its built like a tank (i.e it's quite heavy). The F4 version is a fantastic lens, much lighter than the 2.8 (which, if you're hand-holding, is a bonus!) You might also want to check out the 'new' Image-Stabilised F4 version; unless you're...

    EOS 5D + 24-105 L, Kit

The problem with cramming more pixels onto any sensor isn't just their size, its the electronic 'noise' that they generate - this is what causes the sensor artifacts (seen as odd pixels of bright colours) especially at higher ISO levels. Whilst Canon may - may - introduce a 5D replacement with...

    EOS 5D + 24-105 L, Kit

Either way, *if* there is a full-frame replacement, then you've still got a fantastic combination with the 5D and 24-105 L lens. To be honest, the 12+ Million pixels in the 5D are going to be plenty, unless you regularly need to print at A2 or larger. For A4 and A3 prints, images from the 5D...

Dynamic Disks in Windows XP Pro...

Also, remember with XP (like the server products) you can 'mount' the partitions on your other drives into empty folders in the first (or in your case, second) drive. For example, here your "first" 300GB drive you would create and format as D: and then (from Disk Management) you could mount the...

Some chav has thieved my car aerial!

Some kind soul took mine off the 182 also; still, £8 from Renault hardly broke the bank for a replacement aerial! And I'd agree with the posts above about 'gluing' it or otherwise - they'll only damage the car trying to get it out.

    182 Standard Alarm

This might be a well known fault with the 182 alarm - there have been several threads on this before, it's a known issue that can be fixed by a dealer under warranty (the fix is something to do with part of the alarm still being 'live' when the ignition is switched off IIRC).
