So next question, can someone point me in the direction of a guide to change the aux belt on 172 cup?
Describing it and telling me how easy it is won’t help, I’m a visual learner haha
need pictures or video
So my cup had a full cambelt, dephaser etc. change done in 2018 by diamond motors
The car has since done less than 10k miles
Reckon I could just get away with an aux belt change?
Saves travelling miles to a specialist as I’m in deepest darkest cornwall
Did 150ish miles this weekend. Some of it with some relatively fast cars (bmw 140’s, M2, Audi s3 etc.) and the cup held its own until we got to the A roads
Only managed to get a picture with my mates 197
cup looking a little sorry for itself, needs a clean up and wheels refurbed
also needs...
Had a fatty induction in my last 172 and missed the nostalgic sound
Made sure I ordered it all in time for the weekend, however ASH sent me the wrong elbow, 60° instead of 90
So this is getting sent back and another one ordered
Took delivery of my 172 cup today
Bought it from another forum member @avstar1 completely blind
Albeit he sent me lots of pictures and a video walk around.
here’s a copy & paste from the advert giving some details on the car;
Engine:
Catcams 428
Matched Inlets
Mapped standard ECU
Ph1...
This car has come up for sale local to me, noticed the clio sport sticker in the back window.
anyone know if it’s a forum members old car?
from what I can gather it’s been passed around a bit
Sorry to hijack thread but it’s sort of relevant. I am also currently in the market for a 1*2 and at first I wanted a 172 cup. However the more I read, the more horror stories there are about the cup not having abs and you’re basically going to end up in a ditch.
true or just over exaggerated?
Wanted to update this in case anyone was interested of the outcome or if anybody searches in the future.
Gave up searching and got the garage to recover the car, turned out to be a broken wire in the loom.
The one for the fuel pump to be exact.
Also need a new alternator, but wether or not...
I have read a lot that it could be the TDC sensor and possibly something to do with the wiring.
Isn't there a way to test it? Or clean it off I seem to remember reading
Looks like I posted in the wrong part of the forum, I didn't realise this section existed.
Copied this over from my other thread:
So the car wouldn't start last week, I had another thread in Clio discussion and it was suggested to try the battery.

So the car wouldn't start last week, I had another thread in Clio discussion and it was suggested to try the battery.
Got a new battery, fitted it. Car turns on etc. absolutely fine but immobiliser light stayed on.
Called the AA and they sorted the immobiliser problem, now I have the heartbeat...
Update on this, bought a new battery and fitted it. Immobiliser light stayed red and wouldn't start.
Called the AA and I'm left with the heartbeat light on. This is a summary of what he did.
Lights come on, then straight off when you turn the ignition on
No clicking noises and cd changer doesn't do the usual whirring noises when out of battery
Central locking doesn't work
Ph2 172 won't start, when you put the key in and turn the immobiliser light would stay red.
Now nothing happens when I put the key in even if I try charged battery etc
Tried doing the trick with holding the central locking button etc. but not worked.
Cars has never had a problem starting...
Needed a new injector ASAP, so had to pick one up from Euro.
£62.99 with a 35% discount code brought it down to about £41
Asked the lad on the counter for extra discount and he got it down to £35.
Not the cheapest I've seen them but needed the part today.
Thought other people may benefit from...
Put it back together with the thermostat in place. Got it up to temp so the stat opened and bled it while it was hot. Topped up after it had cooled down
I'm a heating engineer by trade so used to burning myself haha
Also when I flushed the system I put the stat housing back together empty to...
Finally got around to changing the thermostat today.
Got a genuine Renault one new in its box cheap as someone was having a clear out
Started draining the coolant, didn't make a good job of catching it though
Then stuck a hose through the system
Replaced the thermostat, no pictures of the...
