They arent completely original mate ;). Two of them are 4 years younger than the car.... Were last re-furbed in 2008. The big chunk missing out of one followed an ill advised brake/turn-in moment coming down the Hardknott Pass...:)
Morning all… Need help with a problem on my 172 Cup.
After a week of inactivity I went to start it yesterday and no joy. All the lights came on as they should, with the clocks (i.e. fuel gauge) moving to the correct position when the ignition was switched on.
When I turned the key through to...
No grinder, so Ill just have to crack on with the file!!
Fred, do you mean the steel things top and bottom of the caliper? If so, they went on the last change...
Yep another brake question... Also changed the rear discs and pads. Managed to loose one of the four springs on the back of the rear pads... Are they actually necessary? If so, does anyone have a picture of how the sit in place as Im still scratching my head trying to get the three remaining...
Recently bought some DS2500s and Brembo HC discs. Went to put these in over the weekend and hot a bit of a problem. I can get the pads into the carrier fine (nobbles filed down as per the advice on here), but when I put the caliper back into postiion, I can only secure it at the top or the...
Standard rebuild.... All new syncros, new bearings (input, output and diff), new selector fork, new seals.... I cant wait to get my hands on it. Been using the R reg Xsara courtesy car all week...
Yeah... Hes done the belt. Last thing I wanted was to spend a fortune on a gearbox rebuild and new tyres and then the belt to go on the way home and need an engine rebuild as well...
Morning,
My Cup is currently away having the gerabox rebuilt. While I was bleeding money I thought I may as well get the aux belt done at the same time, as its 4 years since the last change. Asked for the tensioner to be replaced at the same time, but the guy at the garage claims that it isnt...
The shocks were from Ktech. renault originals for just over 100 notes. Dead easy to do, dont even need to take the wheels off. Springs were second hand for about 50 quid.
You're right. I should definately detail all known faults to my local dealer. After all, Im sure that when I buy my next car the seller will be completely honest. Wont he? In fact Ill take him at his word. No inspection or test drive needed...
TBH I wouldnt sell the car privately or...
I wouldnt have a second hand gearbox. Given how weak they are, I could spend the money and it could go pop. Given that mins only on 50k and Im not a hard driver, Id want a new one (way too expensive), or a recon.
Best price Ive had for a recon is 780 (including VAT and labour). May as well...
£600 for the box? Any ideas where? Spoke to Fred and he reckons about 1k for the box + clutch. Bearings need doing + the synconmesh is failing on 4th and 5th, so it will probably be a full refurb...
I know the Twingo is slower, but Ive got a bike so I can get my speed fix there... I only do 5k a year so would be hard to justify haviong a 200 sitting there....
Its already had new springs and shocks this year and my worry is that its now at a point where things are just going to keep going...
I stand at a cross roads.
After 6 years and 50k miles, it may well be time to get rid of my 172 Cup. Weve had highs (some memorable drives) and some lows (a field in the lakes comes to mind) and she has been great. She's been loved and pampered, but having just returned from a service she...
Hi,
Im after some standard rear shocks and springs for my 172 Cup. I can get the shocks through Yozza, anyone have any idea where I can get some standard springs?
Ta,
Phil
theres a place in northallerton... Did a cracking job on my, properly shagged Turini's...

Cant recommend highly enough.
If it was loose wheel bearings, Id expect a noise? I dont think anything has got bent, as I havent hit anything or kerbed a wheel...
What would cause a warped disc at such low miles and with such light use??
